Player Discussion Vladimir Tarasenko

I'd like to see him get a look with Chytil and Laf. Both of them would look to differ to him for the shot and maybe that could get him going.

I don't think he's necessarily struggling, but he's nearly a no-show most of the time. Half trying to find his way and fit in and half the fact that hockey is different here than how it's played elsewhere. He plays north-south lite -- which is as north as you can possibly get compared with some of the other guys here.

He was good with Panarin and Trocheck.

He's been horrendous with Zibanejad and Kreider.

Gallant is turning this into Eric Staal pt 2. Just play him with Panarin and Trocheck.

I'd rather Kane with Panarin now. Taresenko will be fine. He's good on the boards and he's pretty responsible. The playoffs is a different game so we'll see different guys step up then. I think he'll be one of them.

Yeah Zibanejad's line has been real bad lately, don't force it too much

I do have to wonder if Kane would work better on Zibanejad's line as he could feed Zib and Kreider

That all said I don't think it's crazy that a player struggles to fit into a new team a bit after a near deadline deal...sometimes they work great, sometimes they take some time, especially for bigger names.

When we get Kane there’s no way they don’t play him with Panarin

Maybe it could be

Kreider - Zibanejad - Kakko
Panarin - Trocheck - Kane
Lafreniere - Chytil - Tarasenko
Motte - Goodrow - Vesey

Kreider and Zib should be split up but I doubt that will happen. But having Kreider on his wing makes Mika act stupid. Krieder-Trochek is a good pair

I've given it a few weeks. It's even worse than I originally thought. We've been linked with Tarasenko for YEARS and it was always a terrible idea and waste of good assets.

Tarasenko is not worth what was given up. It's not as bad as the Tanner Jeannot deal, but I might rather have Jeannot honestly.

This team just continuously trades away it's future when we aren't in a real position to contend. And Tarasenko really doesn't put us over the top.

Drury was not the man for this job. He's following Lou's lead from the island. Except Lou got an in his prime Horvat and we get a fading, injury prone, 2nd tier guy. Wonderful. Islanders still won't win anything, but at least they got Horvat blowing up the net. We get Tarasenko, a few handfuls of assists and a constant injury bug, who's long past his prime.

Of all the drafts not to move a 1st round pick... this is the one. We stood a good chance of legitimately getting a future 1/2 C from this draft pool, even where we will be picking. And to give an opportunity at that up, for Tarasenko and another year of failure.... it's just, so consistent at this point. And I'm sitting here looking at the Devils thinking, how the heck did they do that? And we did this?

I've just stopped expecting anything different. The only reason we had a stock of assets to do anything with in the first place, is wholly due to the previous administration.

You think this dude, who wants one more big contract, would be a little more engaged, no?
Don't want to be too critical but, he's reminding me of Laffy when we were all over him. He's really non-existent for the most part.
Wasn't a huge fan of acquiring him NOR Kane for that matter as I believe that is way too much talent and not enough GRIT. I pray I am wrong but, thus far not even close to being impressed, but of course that could change. Playing lousy for a lousy Blues team this year is one thing, playing lousy for THIS team is entirely a different story and NOT what Drury had in mind. Fix that.
only positive has been Panarin stepping up, regardless if that actually had anything to do with it.

They should have just traded a second and Hunter Skinner (Rangers trade tax as always) for Barbshev and then gone after Kulikov.
I too prefer the younger and lesser known names, but that apparently isn't what is making Drury tick. Impressing Dolan apparently is. Maybe I am wrong. With this talent on PP, we should be clicking on at least 35%. Imo.

That's pretty much what I would do. Only negative would be splitting the kids up, but they should and probably will get over it.
Still time to play around with the lines......and you KNOW GG will.

He just looks like someone who is still getting comfortable. He physically engages here and there, but we need him to be more assertive and shoot more. It will be bad if he is still playing this way in the playoffs

That's pretty much just how Tarasenko is.
I really see the biggest problem is the team doesn't know how to use him. The 5-on-3, Fox had multiple chances to throw the puck to him with space and Tarasenko could have absolutely wired a one timer. But he didn't. Skated to the middle of the ice and passed left the first time, the second time, skated to the middle and shot to Kreider for the deflection goal.
You haven't watched him very long, he doesn't have a one-timer. I can probably count on my hands and feet how many one-timers i've seen him take, and those have almost all been in the last 3 years since he doesn't have the wrist shot anymore. Had he developed a 1T in his younger years, he would have been a 45+ goal scorer instead of a consistent 30-35 goal guy.

Yea people kind of just assume he has a one timer because he’s considered a sniper, I don’t recall ever seeing him scoring on one lol

Lmao, wtf??

You're acting like the Rangers just mortgaged their entire future. They still have a 2023 1st round pick for crying out loud.

And Drury has, for the most part, been fine.

Old clip but he can do it. Mechanics are a little awkward, but then so were Gaborik's and Jagr's one timers and they scored plenty.

Probably moot now anyway since Kane figures to be in that spot now, but could be useful on the 2nd unit especially if he goes in the Kakko spot.
