I've given it a few weeks. It's even worse than I originally thought. We've been linked with Tarasenko for YEARS and it was always a terrible idea and waste of good assets.
Tarasenko is not worth what was given up. It's not as bad as the Tanner Jeannot deal, but I might rather have Jeannot honestly.
This team just continuously trades away it's future when we aren't in a real position to contend. And Tarasenko really doesn't put us over the top.
Drury was not the man for this job. He's following Lou's lead from the island. Except Lou got an in his prime Horvat and we get a fading, injury prone, 2nd tier guy. Wonderful. Islanders still won't win anything, but at least they got Horvat blowing up the net. We get Tarasenko, a few handfuls of assists and a constant injury bug, who's long past his prime.
Of all the drafts not to move a 1st round pick... this is the one. We stood a good chance of legitimately getting a future 1/2 C from this draft pool, even where we will be picking. And to give an opportunity at that up, for Tarasenko and another year of failure.... it's just, so consistent at this point. And I'm sitting here looking at the Devils thinking, how the heck did they do that? And we did this?
I've just stopped expecting anything different. The only reason we had a stock of assets to do anything with in the first place, is wholly due to the previous administration.
