Traded Vladimir Tarasenko (1 year, 5 million)

I am equating 2.5m to a 3rd since the NJD took on 1.125 for a 4th ... only cap space in the Tanev deal.
2.5m is worth something;

in good news, our owner is willing to pay money to get picks instead of what happened in the Zibby deal where we got f***ed and then f*** ourselves over a player bonus so got doubly f***ed

So it is a new era of good news ownership wise

when you global the deal, no way Tarasenko comes here without a full NTC and a promise to trade him to the team of his choice of Ottawa isnt in the playoffs - and that looks like exactly what happened.

Why does it seem like every player we move holds us ransom. Or we get fleeced by other GM’s. 91 only wanted to go to Florida so we get the gun to our head…..again.

Very disappointing return. I had been hoping/expecting much better for Tarasenko.

But... he wouldn't have signed here if the NMC hadn't been offered. And, the picks in return from Florida are free money. And we got to enjoy watching him for 5 months.

That said... this is depressing. Hopefully moves are made that will give us some optimism for next season.

The bolded is entirely different and I have no issue with it. Lets not move the goal posts.

They retained the value of a 3rd and got a 4th for Tarasenko. Its a terrible return.. You can't make me love it. lol

Oh well, maybe it'll be another well-endowed Paul situation where we just helped a Florida team eliminate the Laffs. Entertainment value.

Dorion would have traded him to Edmonton and would have submitted this with the paperwork.

I was hoping for more as well but in what world does signing Tank to sit Pinto make any sense.

I thought the Tank signing was stupid from the beginning and TBH Tank was better then I expected so these two picks aren’t the end of the world for me because the entire signing was stupid from the beginning so I’m happy it’s over and we got out of it a couple of picks and we’re moving on.L to focus on the core as we should always have been.

I don’t like it either, but SS made the best of a very very stupid situation he was put in.

2.5m is worth something to cap strapped teams looking to get better for the playoffs
Was there a No movement clause involved? No? Ok. As much as it sucks everyone is going to have to come to terms with what happened here. This was a player that was not motivated to waive his no movement clause and apparently his family already lives there or they have a place there.

There is only one person to blame for this and its not the guy in charge right now. Its the person that put the sens in this position that gave the NMC that burned assets at an alarming rate for 7 years.

Extremely incompetent position to be in to begin with. People are forgetting the Pinto and cap situations that signing Tank made.

Was it an underwhelming trade? Yes, but given the circumstances it was better to get something out of it rather than nothing.

I also want to put some blame on Ottawa real estate prices because if shit wasn’t so expensive here I can’t see a world where anyone picks Miami over Ottawa

Was initially disappointed by the return, but, after considering the circumstances, Staios did the best with the hand he was dealt.

Good luck in Florida Tank! I wouldn’t mind bringing him back next year if he wants to come back.

When Tank arrived in town this summer the entire press core was basically “Why are you here? What does Pierre Dorion have on you. What’s wrong with you? Tell us the secret because there has to be a reason you picked Ottawa on a 1 year term.”

This was the wrong signing for day 1 - but I like Tank he did well here but he shouldn’t of ever come signed here

Florida is basically Cabo for Russians - they own like 90% of the strip bars in Florida

I suppose Staios could have NOT made this trade and paid Tarasenko 100% of his salary for the rest of this season and not got the late 3rd and late 4th round picks.

I am disappointed that we did not get a late 2nd round pick instead of the late 3rd and late 4th.

What does Pinto have to do with the bad return Staios got for Tarasenko?

Some weird mental gymnastics going on right now.

Context. You have Pinto all season maybe you make the playoffs and you’re not trading Tank.

Me too, I expected and was hoping for a 2nd.

The NHL has changed massively - players have a ton of power and trades aren’t done like they used to be and fans need to accept that even if it sucks

Chock up another bad one on Dorion. That NMC really gummed up the works and imagine they even had to take back salary (mostly because of cap value) to get such poor return. The sharks know where the best feeding spots are.

Just so we can put the Staois vs Dorion hockey minds debate to rest

Staois knows how to skate

Pierre Dorion doesn’t know how to skate

End of debate
