You can tell he has won it before. He's always the first guy back in our zone making great plays on D.

3 things Vladdy has always been good at that have been over looked at times because of the idea he's a pure sniper is his playmaking, agility to use his size to drive the net and finding soft ice around the net

Did what he had to do last night like everyone. Don’t think he was individually brilliant or anything

Did not actually motivate him at all last year. He dropped from 82 points to 50 despite playing more games .....
He was injured and got traded for the first time in his career last year. These are factors that cannot be overlooked. He was really good last night in all 3 zones. He's a way better player in his own zone than people give him credit for. He's good at the blue lines which this team really struggles at. He doesn't turn the puck over in danger spots. That's winning hockey.

Man you got yourself some pretty high standards

The other day it was the Philly game where we weren't good enough in a game we dominated

Now it's Tarasenko. He scored a beauty last night. Has 4 points in 3 games, some beauty primary assists and can clearly play big boy hockey in the O zone

Wow. What's it gonna take?

I have no idea. I thought what I said was a compliment

Individual brilliance will be far and few with his game now.

I will keep repeating he is not a flashy player. Even in his prime, he plays a simple but very effective game.

In the offensive zone he knows where to be and what play to make. In the D zone he can protect the puck and make sure it gets out.

All the while he is a heavy player, giving or taking hits.

It is so obvious he has played with structure his entire career. He is a great role model for our forward group, along with G.

Wasn't sure when the trade happened but

A healthy and confident Vladdy can be a scary player
Looks like he's enjoying himself so far

Yeah I understand where he is at this stage.

Played a great game last night.

I wonder if he has a future at the team. He's fitting in pretty well so far, even with low ice time and awkward linemates. He's also doing all the little things the right way, especially in the defensive zone.

He also keeps bringing up unprompted how he and his family love the city, and how it's perfect for families.

He's the kind of guy who will fall off the cliff rapidly when it happens IMO.

Huge caution signs about long-term contracts with him.

He's not speedy at the best of times, and I'm not sure he has the shiftiness and hockey IQ of an Alfredsson or a Giroux who can perform late into their 30s.

In any event, we have a sample of 3 games at the moment, with one mediocre game against good competition and two better ones against poor competition.

I'd have no issues if the term was 2-3 years at his current cap.

A lot of moving pieces:

1. How close the Senators are to competing for a Cup.

2. How he performs this season.

3. Whether he wants that final long-term contract that takes him to 37 years old or so.

I think someone will pay it, even if they have to eat the last couple of seasons.

The window to maximize this roster and contend for a cup is between now and around 2028 or so. Which isn't to say that they couldn't be contenders for the next decade, but if you look at the projections for where the cap ceiling will go, and you look at when a lot of the key players will have their cap hits inflated with extensions, a whole bunch of underpriced players become UFAs between 2027 and 2029.

In a year or 2 when the cap is up at 90 percent, they are going to have room to load up and make some luxury additions because almost every player is cost controlled at below what they bring. If Tarasenko is a difference maker for the next 2-3 years, they might be able to justify going 4-5 years with the idea that he will decline by the end of the contract. You have to keep in mind that acquiring a replacement via trade or free agency is easier said than done.

Vladdy and G are two key players to have on a team full of young players, those two guys have done it all in this league, you need good veterans like them to lead the way to keep the guys even keel.
And yet there are still some who question the leadership on this team, we're lucky to have them should appreciate their contributions.

Exactly, this is what is expected of a veteran player & it's also what is expected of a guy who won a Stanley Cup, playing the right way.

He's only 31 yrs old, there are lots of good players who still contribute in significant ways in their 30s, hell OV is still doing it in his 40s.
