It’s on my list. I think it was @twabby who was a big Returnal fan. If I recall correctly, you can’t really save progress and you need to dedicate chunks, i.e. hours, of time per sitting to progress which was a no-go for me. Let me know if that’s not the case!
It’s a really weird system…..trying to figure it out. You can suspend a run, but dying resets most weapons, rebuilds the world differently, etc…..

First few times you die, don’t skip the scenes….changes a little each time….

Returnal is fantastic. Despite having played games like Elden Ring and Horizon: Forbidden West I still think I like Returnal the most of any PS5 game I’ve played.

You don’t need to dedicate hours any more because you can save, but if you die it does reset your progress. Basically you can pause your game with a save, rather than having to rely on rest mode which was what a lot of people including me did before the big patch.

Every run allows you to continually upgrade your weapons and those upgrades carry over the subsequent runs, so even if you die it wasn’t in vain. Each run becomes easier because your weapons are stronger and of course because you get better at the game.

Yep, you get teleportation, learn shortcuts, etc…..not in vain indeed. And the weapons and alternate shots……so cool. Like the jump/dash mechanics also.

Played some more Elden ring but also started Judgement too which is a Yakuza spinoff with similar concepts. And since it's not turn based you can freely pick up objects off the street and beat people up.

Only if you're up against The Brodeur in the Devil Cave

After Margit beats me for the 6th time despite me being 25 and having the summon and wolves after him

No. I tried for 2 hours yesterday before giving up. If you can't beat him you basically can't advance the story

While you are correct the story won't advance without beating Margit, I would suggest exploring other parts of the map. There are tons of mini-dungeons around that will help you level up your character and make Margit a little easier to fight.

Is magrit the one that does the blood loss move? If so there’s a mix thing that you can find that counter acts it somewhere I can’t remember where.
It's the first boss.

I'm level 27 and still getting obliterated by mobs. I did a check of how many hours I played in settings. 9 hours. About 95% of those 9 hours are raiding the damn limgrave camp over and over

Also it's not like I can go anywhere else. Those mobs if you're patient enough get a good amount of runes. The castle down south is too hard, and everything east is difficult and out of range. I can't even get the shackles for Margit either.

Frustrating game but I keep grinding

Oh ok sorry been awhile since I’ve played it. It gets so rewarding as you start beating bosses and as you get more comfortable with the dodging and moves

Im desperate for a new game, doesnt even have to be open world at this point. Having an x box one really limits the games id like as Ghosts, TLOU etc arent on X box.

Assassins Creed Valhalla? Thoughts?

I'm always looking for a game cuz I'm so damn picky, but after digging on the show and hearing the that PC port of TLOU is due out March 3rd, I'll probably wait for that.

Everything I'm playing lately is at least 4 years old (a little CMS 2021 but I'm a car nerd like that). Some Far Cry 5 modded (won't pay full price for a FC game till they make one that looks like a new game, so I haven't tried 6 yet). Made a City of Heroes virtual machine for giggles that has been nostalgic fun. Went back to a couple Arkham games for a minute after Gotham Knights was such a letdown. Reinstalled both Portal games but haven't waded in yet.

I'm getting like this in my old age with movies and TV, too. Look for something new, find a couple duds, then watch a shitload of things I've seen already.

Makes so much sense to wait a few years on games, especially for the PC. You can usually get them cheap and at that point they don't require the latest and greatest hardware. You also have time for other gamers to screen them for you and leave tons of reviews, which help you avoid some pitfalls. And you can see which games get continued support and new content from the developers. All around much better than paying full price and rolling the dice on new games.

Valhalla is fun, though I stopped playing pretty abruptly when HFW came out. Might pick it up again but honestly I really don’t like how it jumps from one era to another and it’s so insanely big.

If you like AC then Odyssey is a great chapter in the series. It has a larger focus on ancient mythology, and the Assassins vs Templars isn’t as prominent which is good or bad depending on your preference. I also thought they did a really good job creating the world of Ancient Greece.

If you’re looking for something different I recommend Valiant Hearts: The Great War. One of the better stories I’ve played through.
