In order to have a “replacement level player” you actually have to have one in the organization.

We would have been much better with a replacement level forward when McKegg was here but the reason he was playing was because there wasn’t one on offer.

But Brannstrom deserves a chance. It’s not like Lindgren even on his game has been a crease clearer of late.

Brannstrom is a guy who has good metrics, but coaches dont trust him. We already have one of those.

People said for two years replace Trouba with literally anyone.

Drury replaced him with Will Borgen and it made the team significantly better.

You're not getting complicated answers here.
Trouba was making $8+mm. Totally different story. We replaced him with a guy who half the league wanted

There’s actual value in playing Zibanejad at RW. It simplifies his game. He can concentrate on creating offense only and the team can use him in the PK rotation as a center which will be a big plus. If he could get back to a 70-80 point pace he’s worth his contract.

In saying that, LW is still beyond crowded. Panarin, Cuylle, Lafreniere(who is still playing out of position), Othmann, Berard, Kreider. If Zibenajad slides to RW than the RW depth could be, Zibanejad, Lafreniere, Perrault.

The guy to trade is Kreider. And the return should be either a young defenseman and a pick or a high end defensive prospect and a pick.

I’m really curious how the Rangers view Laba. Could he be ready for NHL minutes next year? He’s a big kid with strong skating skills.

Drury owes it to the organization to get a long look this season at Berard and Othmann. The group below them, Sykora, Chmelar, BMB, Roobreck and Laba, while not ‘sexy’ are all progressing nicely. If they don’t start providing opportunities they’re going to end up with 5-6 guys all ready for NHL minutes and some excuse about not wanting that many rookies on the team.

Smith and Vesey should be on the block and traded soon. Kreider, to me, is the guy who could be on the way out depending on the return.

For those people sleeping on Othmann, I’d just like to say that the kid has a serious nose for the net and is willing to battle to score. Put him with Miller, who likes to have the puck and make plays, and I think he does really well

I feel that there's a prevailing notion out there that "not an NHL player" is some sort of hyperbole used by the analytics people.

No, people use that phrase for a reason.

It's not meant as smartass response when people ask "replace them with who?" and you say "an NHL player."

That is meant literally.

Yeah the numbers are used because it provides actual data that people can't counter with vague statements that don't really mean anything that they want to use to defend the player because they like him. It's okay to like Ryan Lindgren and appreciate what he used to be, but that guy doesn't exist anymore and it's important to acknowledge that. Same as it was with Marc Staal and appears may very well be the case with Chris Kreider (who some how doesn't escape the ire of these same people) and Mika Zibanejad (who doesn't escape the ire of 99% of this place.)

The eye test should be enough with Lindgren though. He's getting beat like a f***ing Timpani in every way possible (Dump ins, off the rush, along the walls, in front of the net, on the PK.) He's worse than both of the guys mentioned above, by A LOT.

At the end of the day it doesn't really matter what we collectively think or see if the HC is going to create an alternate reality where bad actually means good.

lol not at all, I think that's a likelier outcome than a contender-worthy 1C or even 2C at this point though, don't you?
Nope lol.

But if he is, trade Lafreniere for Harley straight up

Panarin-Miller-Zib
Cuylle-Trocheck-Perreault
Berard-X-Kaliyev/Othmann
4th line

Harley-Fox
Miller-Borgen
Vaakanainen-Schneider

Now that’s a defense.

So if they stack the 1st line who’s a realistic 3rd line C option ?

They do have cap space to take a shot at an overpriced ufa that’s not going to cost much assets.

Dvorak or Faska?

Did not realize Ryan was 26. Don't defenseman peak around 26? Is his body battered so much that it took years off his career?
