Confirmed Trade: [VGK/CGY/PHI] Noah Hanifin (75% retained), Mikhail Vorobyov to VGK; 2026 1st , 2025 cond. 3rd, Daniil Miromanov to CGY; 2024 5th to PHI

lol what a laughable return Conroy literally going to ensure the Flames don't see the playoffs for the foreseeable future.

I mean, that's what most Flames fans have wanted. A rebuild
Flames are desperate for some high draft picks. They need to get some real stars for once.

What's stopping Calgary from taking back bad salary if they're being paid for it? You're rebuilding aren't you?

And the return for Lindholm was a 1st, two 2nds, Vaakanainen--who is a player for them and a cap dump. Without an agreed extension.

Speaking of good faith.
The point is eating salary to increase the return is not about the return for the player himself.

The Lindholm deal was essentially a 1st and a 2nd, this is a 1st and a 2nd or 3rd, not exactly a huge gap in the returns.

He is a step and a half behind. He has always had great positioning but he keeps loosing guys. Shot blocking is nice when the defense is set but forget it on an odd man rush or 2 on 2.
Shame, I always liked him so hopefully he has one final push left in him for the end of this season

If that was all the return they were going to get then why did they trade him to a place he wanted to re-sign with? Could've traded him to Toronto for the exact same return and let him sweat for the rest of the season. Probably could have got a guaranteed 2024 1st too. Why do the player a favor if he is flexing his muscle and you are getting essentially a pure rental return?

He reportedly had most of Canada on his No Trade list

He wasnt going to waive for Toronto and Toronto isnt willing to move a 1st rounder

Given the circumstances this is pretty good. But the 1st round rule is BS. Vegas should be suspended from their first rounders at some point, considering they trade almost all of them away.

Well... Brisson could, but won't happen because of his dad being an agent.

The problem is, the picks they have won't get be high and their own will be middling.

They had a huge opportunity 18 months ago to trade Huberdeau and Weegar and have a rebuild at that point. Those two at the time on their contracts, would've probably returned half of what the Flames have got for all the players named above.

High picks dont necessarily translate to success

Flames sent a.player too?

No, Vorobyov’s RFA rights are included in the trade because Philadelphia had to include some “real asset” to flip Hanifan with 25% salary retention. NHL doesn’t allow teams to flip players with salary retention for Future Considerations.

Vorobyov will be a UFA this summer when his RFA rights expire at age 27.

Conroy sucks at negotiating.

The Vancouver deal was really good. He got fortunate that Sharangovich has turned out well.

Zadorov, Tanev and Hanifin all pretty brutal trades considering what other GMs gave up for lesser players today
Craig "the conned man" Conroy?

I’m shocked Lindholm returned more. A retool was only doable if they sold last deadline, this is what happens when rentals get traded. Maybe he can get a 3rd and Holtz for Markstrom
Me too. Hanifin is the more impactful player and was the only top pair D available at the deadline. I feel like the only trade we made out well on was Lindholm. I was mildly disappointed by the Tanev and Zadorov returns and I'm extremely disappointed with this one. At least it's a 2025 or 2026 pick instead of a late one this year in a draft that's 15 players deep.

Because he's a 27 year old top pairing defenseman in the midst of what may be a career year. The Hampus Lindholm trade set a pretty good precedent of what you should expect as a return for that caliber of D.

A former 1st round pick, a 1st, two 2nds and an offsetting contract.

Let it all out though. Your GM got his ass handed to him by a division rival GM.
I agree with you. This one is brutal. This was our best trade chip and we got a 1st and 3rd while retaining 50%. That's tough to spin. He did well on the Lindholm trade, but the rest were weak to horrific.
