Glad this saga is over. The Rangers are the team that meet the criteria the least of all the teams on his list. Buffalo or Toronto seems to have been the best fit to grow with a young up and coming lineup. The Rangers are in no man's land, they're not a contender and it don't look promising that they will be anytime soon. I guess he got blinded by the lights of the Big Apple.

NYC was the right choice for him. He'll make a name for himself on the largest market in the US. The Rangers have a good history with NCAA players. He's a Harvard grad and Buffalo would be a massive downgrade. The Bruins have crap ownership and the Leafs just aren't quite there yet.

Not a contender according to who?

I'd think Vesey, an actual hockey player, has a better idea of what a contender looks like as opposed to a bunch of know it alls on a stupid website.

I wonder what the deciding factor was for Vesey... You have to imagine the city itself played a huge huge role, considering every team was likely promising him top 6 minutes.

This was a lifestyle decision for him, and he gets to stay very close to his family. Can't blame the kid. The Rangers are still a playoff team.

I would assume the city played a huge role. When choosing between a city like New York City versus Buffalo, it's not really much of a choice if you view most things as comparable.

Rick Nash, Jesper Fast, Marc Staal and Tanner Glass for either Kevin Shattenkirk, Cody Ceci or Jacob Trouba. If Gorton pulls that off, he'll be a GOAT in my book.

Blue line is a mess however Rangers are talented and deep as far as forwards are concerned.

and the blueline will make sure the team goes nowhere.

I think that's why many have a hard time understanding this. Whatever window they have is strongly tied to how dominate Lundqvist is. And his window is quickly closing. Sorting out NYR's blueline is going to take some time, and in the process they're losing time with Lundqvist.

And neither of them have near the success with the pitch. It's a pain in the ass to commute to Brooklyn from NJ or other NY suburbs (where many players tend to live). Commuting to Newark is easier than Brooklyn, but you are playing in Newark.

It's an apples vs. moldy apples vs. wormy apples comparison.

I've been to NYC plenty of times (was in Brooklyn last week) and get that transit down there can be a headache. Doesn't change the original point I'm making.

Transit is obviously an issue at times, but really all that boils down to is convenience. You can still experience the city without living in Manhattan. Anyway, this isn't about Devils and Islanders vs. Rangers. It's about this idea that a market like NYC will always win out above a place like Buffalo because of the appeal of the market, when in fact it isn't always the case.

As a flyers fan, I hope for the following 3 things to happen

- preds win a cup in the next 5 years
- vesey is a bust
- preds draft a hidden gem superstar with buffalos 3rd rounder

Even though NYR are rivals, it has nothing to do with them. I just feel like small market teams like Nashville already have enough of a difficult time attracting free agents. I wish they would close that college loophole

In b4, yes I'm well aware that it's in the CBA and this is well within Veseys rights, that doesn't mean I have to like it. Just felt like he misled Nashville for 4 years

I wish they would close the loop hole that allows teams to draft a player and then decide to not to ever offer them a contract. I think if a team drafts a kid they should be forced to give him a contract.

Who do you honestly think are the top contenders to win the cup in the east? Pens, caps, tbl a clear top tier. Why are rangers contenders?

Hmmm... So money can't play a role because it's an ELC. He only has to decide where has the best chance to win. And he goes to a team that appears to be on the decline? If I were Vesey I'd have immediately gone to Chicago.

"Rangers have no future"

Traded Brassard for Zibanejad, promoting Skjei's minutes and now signed Vesey.

The Rangers will rebuild on the fly and field a competitive team while continuing to develop quality NHL players as they have been since the lockout.
