I hope this is true.Nonis was just on TSN radio. He said he wants to improve the goaltending position but isn't looking to move the good young players that they have worked hard to acquire. He also mentioned doing moves to benefit the long term future of the team.
The more I listen to Nonis speak today the more I think he's not going after Luongo. I really think the Leafs are trying to add to their young core, and don't want any part of aging veterans.

I can't see Gardiner being part of the package from Toronto's perspective.
1) Besides goaltending, Toronto's defense is their most suspect position. Why would Toronto further worsen one position to improve another?
2) Gardiner is likely to be a stud in the near future. Players like that aren't easy to come by, and I can't see Nonis being willing to sacrifice him to improve the goalie position.
3) You can see from all the responses in here that trading Gardiner away would be a highly upsetting event for many fans. With that said, Canuck fans were crazy for Hodgson as well and look where that left us.
Sure, as a Vancouver fan I could *love* to see Gardiner in a Canucks uniform. I just can't see it happening.
I still say that Gillis isn't exactly in an ideal bargaining position so while I think under ideal circumstances Luongo would be worth a fair amount on the trade market, I'm pretty sure he will be a little limited as to what he can get in a return. With that said, I'm not entirely sure how strong Toronto's trading chips are for Vancouver:
Kadri: Smaller than the kind of player the Canucks have recently been seeking and RFA at end of season. Tons of potential, but so far unproven at the NHL level.
Bozak: While he would be a good fill-in for centre on the 2nd line while Kesler is out (and subsequently dropped to the 3rd when Kesler returns) he's UFA by the end of the season and could very well sign elsewhere.
I could see Colborne being the kind of player Gillis might try to seek out, but he's not a huge piece of the puzzle and he's also RFA by end of the season.
I said in an earlier post that I'd be happy with Bozak + Colborne... which I think would be fine too by most Toronto fans. But now, I'm not so sure that'd be enough from a Vancouver perspective. Still, if it is the only/best offer available....

I hope no one trades for him and Canucks fans can be "just okay" with keeping him and his albatross contract.
Why Bozak? Don't see how it makes sense for either team. Bozak is the #1 center on the Leafs (for better or for worse), and he's be the #3 center on the Canucks. Bozak is not exactly your prototypical 3rd line center either. I thought that the Canucks would be looking for a top 6 winger, which we have a decent amount of (Kulemin, Macarthur, JVR, Frattin likely competing for spots on the 2nd line).
