Keep in mind, with whole Moore incident, they wanted to move him pretty bad. It was a black cloud hanging over the organization and team.

It was an interesting trade from both sides. Luongo's camp was coming off a like a prima donna, holding out for big money and making all kinds of crazy demands from Florida. Bertuzzi had the Moore fiasco hanging around his neck and had just finished up a disinterested looking season in Vancouver. Auld was actually looking like a very solid young goaltender.

We know now that Bertuzzi never recovered his pre-Moore form, and became a 2nd/3rd line tweener with none of his former recklessness or belligerence. We know now that Auld never delivered on his promise and became a bust. And we know now that Luongo seemed genuinely devastated to be traded out of Florida, meaning that much of the act his camp was putting on was posturing. At the time though, it was a trade of a problematic superstar UFA for a problematic superstar UFA + garnishings. If Bertuzzi had rebounded to look anything like his former self with a fresh start in Florida, that trade would be viewed very differently. Alas, he injured his back almost immediately, and that was that.

Uh...OT...whatever happens will depend a lot on how much say Nonis has in managerial decisions. He's a very steady-as-she-goes type general manager, who believes in holding tight to young players. So that will likely be a relief to Leafs fans. He's also a guy who believes in building a team from the net out, and once said Roberto Luongo was the player in the league he'd most want to build a team around (a year before acquiring him). So that might make Leaf fans a tad antsy. Burke was a riverboat gambler who would throw anything in net to see if it swam or sank. The list of hilarious netminders we tried out during his tenure in Vancouver is the stuff of high comedy.

Colborne + Bozak + perhaps a 2nd round pick is more along the lines of what fair value should be in a trade for luongo

It's not like we're hurting for centermen right? If Colborne can become the player we all hope for we would be making a huge mistake. I think Colborne should be close to untouchable. Big guys like him tend to take longer to develop and put it all together, but if he ever does... we'd be kicking ourselves for letting him go.

Our cap situation is so good. Taking on one of the dumbest "Retirement" contracts is stupid.

Kadri+Bozak would be fine.
Kadri+Gardiner would be a very bad idea.

I think the Leafs really need to make the playoffs to the point where asking people to be patient with a rebuild would be a bad idea because I think it has just been too long since their last playoff appearance.

If they had started a rebuild 3 yrs ago, that would be a different story.

colborne and bozak we can live with not kadri.

so b mackenzie says Gardiner isnt involved? Good stuff.

Bozak im 100% fine with, he'd be getting replaced soon anyways(at least i'd hope so)

not sure at all about the second piece. Kadri is a little rough for me but I wouldnt hate it, would much prefer any other prospect(say ashton, percy, colborne, blacker, ross etc.)

Exactly.

It's kind of rare for a Leaf player to hit 70 points in a season. If you take Mats Sundin's consistent, year to year production out of the equation.

Trading a 70 point guy is just not cheap.

Different situation though.
-Luo wasn't signed in a long contract that would see him under contract for a long time
-Luo was at his peak when they traded for him, he's still in his prime but he was a 27 year old goaltender, and possibly one of the top 3 goalies at that time in the NHL.
-Bertuzzi wasn't the top player for the canucks, and the Sedins emerging as legitimate stars in the league, which made him expendable in their minds.
- The canucks wanted to get rid of Bertuzzi due to him being a massive media distraction to the team.

Nonis was just on TSN radio. He said he wants to improve the goaltending position but isn't looking to move the good young players that they have worked hard to acquire. He also mentioned doing moves to benefit the long term future of the team.

The more I listen to Nonis speak today the more I think he's not going after Luongo. I really think the Leafs are trying to add to their young core, and don't want any part of aging veterans.

Nonis will be on the Fan590 at 6 p.m.

I just want the whole Luongo saga to be over. I don't even care if we get him anymore, I just hate the amount of preemptive rage and stress it's causing me.
