My opinion only. I suspect our last GM got canned for preparing to pull the trigger on Luongo. So don't worry it ain't happening. We are going to wait.

Well I think he got fired for not pulling the trigger. As I said. You gonna see an announcement Sunday. Its just a matter o how much did the leafs give up

Say instead of signing Schneider we traded him for a major piece and kept Luongo as our #1..

Would you still laugh at cancuks fans for saying Biozak + Kadri + 2nd for our #1 Franchise goalie was appalling? Because it very well could have been that way.

Had we traded Schneider, you guys would LAUGH if you were somehow able to steal our #1 goalie for that.

Fact is though, he is not your number 1 goalie, and he has a contract that could really hurt a team for a good portion of this cba. If this were a few years ago when he was in his 20s and under a team friendly contract then he would be worth what you expect to get.

Has anybody actually seen the new CBA? I would like to see the details about amnesty buyouts before I decide whether it helps or hurts Luongo's trade value. The contract is OK for the next couple of years, especially for a team like the Leafs that doesn't have to worry that the actual cash salary is much higher than the cap hit, but it becomes a killer in later years. If there is a possibility of getting out of the contract early, without an enormous cap hit, Luongo's trade value goes up, IMO.

Vancouver Is clearly dying to offload him.

It is nuts how everyone underrates ALL of our players.

I would be a little upset giving up Kadri, yet the Canucks board calls him a bust (he is 21, and is close to PPG in the AHL I think) and flames out anyone (even their own fans) who says Kadri would be a nice return.

I think they would be upset getting Crosby for Luongo

I can see their point. Couturier is a big, strong, 2-way center in the mold of maybe a young Keith Primeau. Plus Couturier is under contract for 2 more years before becoming RFA and then potentially 8 years after that, whereas Kessel is a UFA in 1.5 years.

Maybe Reimer or Scrivens turn into one. Who knows what opportunities will present themselves? Goalies do always seem to become available. Luongo, Price, Halak, Bryz, Some don't pan out when they move. However they do become available.

Great idea, so lets just sit around with our overrated prospect pool, without 2 of the most important pieces in our organization and hope that magically, the elite players we need fall into our laps, rather than trading a couple of minor pieces for what the Leafs have needed for the best part of a decade.

Sounds good.

There isn't. The amnesty period is during this summer. There is no way of getting out of that

Isn't that what the draft is lmao

Suck for a year, get a high draft pick and get a great player :sarcasm:

Did Nonis not say he was more patient than Burke?
Did Nonis not say he would only trade youth for youth?
Nothing happening regarding Luongo.

Are you sure? I saw at least one article that stated the amnesty buyout could be exercised also the summer after that. You may well be right but I would just like to see the details in print somewhere.

Hahahaha on the main boards Flyers fans are saying that wouldn't even trade Couturier for Kessel straight up. This is some comedy.

I haven't read that topic yet, but I don't necessarily blame them. Couturier's value is at its highest point and there's no reason he won't continue to improve. On top of that, Couturier is still on an entry level contract while Kessel could is already making 5.4 million and will likely get a raise in a couple years (and we all know Philly is one of the last teams that needs to be adding more salary).

love it.

everyone is laughing at Luongo right now, but if he is moved somewhere other than Toronto, watch how quickly peoples tune changes.

enjoy a continued culture of losing - it's great for developing young players and attracting free agents.

Almost certain, but even if we could the summer after, why only use him for 2 seasons?

To be honest, I'd do Kadri + Bozak + a 2nd for Luongo in a heart beat. I don't see Bozak being here for the long term and the 2nd will be pretty hit or miss. It would suck losing Kadri since we've been waiting since 2009 for him to take a big step in his development.

I've said it before though, and I would love Luongo on the Leafs. Not only does he bring some stability in the crease for a couple/few years, but he should be a great mentor for Reimer/Scrivens during that time.

Yes, I am sure trading our top prospects in Jake Gardiner and Morgan Rielly for a 33 year old goalie with an albatross contract to barely make the playoffs (not even a guarantee) would show FA's how good we are at building a great team :handclap:

Uhh what? I'm not saying I would do the deal, I'm simply look at it from their perspective. If you want to live in your own little bubble, that's fine by me.

hes not even their best forward prospect, yet he somehow is a legit offer for one of the best players in the game.

dont encourage the morons.

I wouldn't either. Kessel already makes what? 5.4 million? What's he going to get after next season, 6-7 per on a long term deal? Couturier will be a better all around player and probably cheaper as well.

While the value of the two players are not close, I can definitely see why they would say that. They do not need more pure scorer type forwards - they need good 2-way players to compliment their scoring guys, and Couturier is perfect for that role.

That's what sucks about being a Leafs fan - the hordes of homers who refuse to look at things from an unbiased POV. Definitely can be frustrating.

Says the guy from Vancouver:laugh:

stop living in the past.

vancouver wins (playing in the west) and now has a culture of winning.

vancouver is a world class city with world class facilities that attract free agents at a discount. vancouver also signs franchise players at a discount.

i don't see what was so funny.
