Do you believe he'll be an "elite" goalie for more than a handful of years? He may be part of getting us into the playoffs, but I don't see him being able to make a serious impact for us in the playoffs, if he wasn't able to do it on a much team in a less pressure filled environment.

The goal is to build a contender, and I don't believe that job will be done in the next few seasons. By the time we reach that goal, Luongo may or may not have any use for us, but we'd still be on the hook for his contract.

Yes, yes, he could end up being the next Belfour, or the handful of veteran goalies who shined during their twilight. He could also be one of the many goalies who retired years before they reached 40.

This. Imo the only way to acquire a long term answer in net is to draft and develop one and hope you get lucky. Need to start by drafting them though...

Laughable that people think this way. Lets not sacrifice a 22 yr old winger who hasn't figured at all for our team to get an elite goaltender? One of our biggest points of weakness?

I really like Kadri but he is being GROSSLY overvalued here.

IMO your idea of trading away your teams top line centre and your best center prospect is laughable. The leafs are bottom dwellers. Why would the sign an old goalie who is arguably on the decline for your teams future. Who will play center when u make this trade? Vancouver is in need of a centrean so no way they sending one in return. Luongo won't get u in the playoffs if you dont have any one to play the face offs and back check.

Tuuka rask wouldve been nice.

Even if he's not being pressured out of the job at 37 i doubt he's worth 5.33 at that point. A middling starter is not ideal. Obviously Im making assumptions here, but even if sparks/whoever doesn't pan out...wed still be winning in spite of luongo not because of him. The $ and the assets are too much to give up for the value he provides.

Why do you think we would be winning in spite of him?

There are a ton of goalies who have performed well into their late 30's and even on occasion at 40. Who says he'd be middling? Certainly I don't think Luongo will still be a top 10 goalie into his late 30's, but I DEFINITELY think he can be a top 15-20 starter... which is something we haven't had since the last lockout... 7+ years and counting.

How can you sya the "assets" are too much to give up? You have absolutely zero clue what it will cost... Unless of course you believe Mike Gillis is a robot controlled by the fans over on the Canucks board.

So, tell me, how exactly are you planning on acquiring an elite goaltender in 4 years? You think goalies like Luongo become available every year?
Or maybe you think that we have a goalie prospect who will ever be as good as Lu?

Bozak + Kadri + 2nd for Luongo

Im assuming kadri. If luongo costs limited assets i don't mind at all.
Also, 15-20 is the definition of middling. I don't know if he'll completely fall off the map, but 5.33 for even a top 20 Goalie is an inefficient use of capspace.

Maybe Reimer or Scrivens turn into one. Who knows what opportunities will present themselves? Goalies do always seem to become available. Luongo, Price, Halak, Bryz, Some don't pan out when they move. However they do become available.

Luongo: Elite, bad contract

Halak: Unknown and unproven at the time of trade. Cost almost an identical prospect as Kadri in terms of value (Lars Eller)

Price: Uhhh... last time i checked he was never available.

Bryzgalov: Arguably worse contract than Luongo

Really you're picking the least of the evils... Luongo's a pretty damn good evil at this point. Unless of course you're willing to hang your hat on the 82 games of total experience that Reimer and Scrivens have had.

Say instead of signing Schneider we traded him for a major piece and kept Luongo as our #1..

Would you still laugh at cancuks fans for saying Biozak + Kadri + 2nd for our #1 Franchise goalie was appalling? Because it very well could have been that way.

Had we traded Schneider, you guys would LAUGH if you were somehow able to steal our #1 goalie for that.

So you're putting your money on the fact that maybe we will get really lucky later on. I see.

It is nuts how everyone underrates ALL of our players.

I would be a little upset giving up Kadri, yet the Canucks board calls him a bust (he is 21, and is close to PPG in the AHL I think) and flames out anyone (even their own fans) who says Kadri would be a nice return.

I think they would be upset getting Crosby for Luongo

Horrible contract....injury prone. You don,t trade a top 5 elite goalie for scraps like that.

Antropov had a pretty wicked season the year after he left the leafs no?

Yes, on the world-beating Atlanta Thrashers, he did post his career high of 24 goals, 43 assists, 67 points. I suppose that was his career year (he never did anything better than that and likely won't), but when I say peaked, I mean, his playing ability peaked. As in, we saw what his true value was. Finally. After many years of pain and waiting.

Tell me again why I would want to do that for Kadri instead of accepting a top goalie, not even knowing if Kadri can produce a full NHL season of even 40 points?

Still has a million year contract at a significant price. Still a choker. Still has stupid greasy hair that promotes a stupid stereotype of us Italians

That's complete robbery. If Vancouver gets that kind of return leaf fans should riot

My opinion only. I suspect our last GM got canned for preparing to pull the trigger on Luongo. So don't worry it ain't happening. We are going to wait.

Then trade Schnieder and keep Luongo.

Luongo has a BAD contract. Now, that doesn't take all of his value away. You get a fairly high pick, a good prospect and a fairly good player.

I dunno. Im just saying his best year statistically wasn't with he leafs. I imagine he'd have gotten better than a 2nd coming off a season of nearly 70 pts.

I didn't know the context of the quote. Like i said id trade Antropov and his 4.5mil or whatever it is in a second. Again it can be reasonably assumed his play will deteriorate.
