3) They were forced to trade him with everything thats going on basically... which also limits the return.

Yep. Don't get why people are pissed or surprised at the return. JT Miller did not hold much trade value. 1st + Chytil was as good as could be reasonably expected.

I've said many times before, there were too many red flags on Miller. He's 32, long contract, NMC, known toxic malcontent. Not exactly a bidding war.

NYR has an example of a player the same age and on the same contract as Miller in Zibanejad who, as I recall, no-one here wanted to touch with a thousand foot pole, even with a raising cap

Everything about JT Miller is a risk. Trading him is a risk. He was an all star with 100 points last season. Keeping him is a risk for the reasons we all know.

Take your pick which part is more risky.

Chytil has some good upside when he's healthy so it's a big gamble in that regard. Before his concussions he was showing top 6 potential at minimum.

Im glad Hughes is the captain and that doesn't happen without the Horvat trade, but Miller was always a ticking time bomb and you could've seen the writing on the wall and have gotten much higher value for him at the time Horvat was traded

Hes never really gotten the opportunity in NY.

His average ice time is 14 minutes per game. Hes got one less 5v5 point than Miller this season.

Its not like he plays a lot and can never score. Not saying hes going to be an all star, but theres some undeveloped potential there.

Also remember, yesterdays price isnt todays price.

Very disappointing return. I get that we have been backed into a corner but the team should never have let the situation get this bad by waiting it out. If the issues are as bad as they clearly are given this trade, you need to make this decision at least 3 months ago if not over the summer. If they're not as bad as they seem, wait it out until the trade deadline. I feel they couldn't have timed this worse.

We literally let these players into our living rooms every couple of days and so emotional ties are strong and emotional responses are high.

I think we made the absolutely right choice and I think time will show that.

I know the cap is going up and Miller's contract will look better relative to the cap.

But he's a heavy and laborious skater. He doesn't float across the ice like Hughes or Niedermayer, it's all hard push with him and I'm not sure that ages well.

The dressing room stuff has been talked about to death. I'm disappointed in how Petey has looked this year, but I think there are mitigating circumstances and I think he's the kind of guy that IF you trade him you then spend 10 years trying to find another one.

I'm very hopeful we keep him.

I like Chytil. The injuries are a risk, but if it's any consolation, if he has his career ended then he's on LTIR and then we have even more cap space (which I hope doesn't happen).

I don't know a lot about Mancini but apparently he's a decent prospect. Maybe this means NO MORE DESHARNAIS!!!!!

The conditions on the pick are amazing too. Like, I'm really not convinced the Rangers have the horses to be a contender anymore. I think they're delusional about where and what they are and I think they will crash soon.

I agree, I think he has potential based on his offensive game to be a decent 2C. His defensive game may need work though and Toch may not like him

Oh that will absolutely happen at some point.

This team needs to have a shot of winning before Quinn Hughes becomes a UFA. This team is so far and away from that now. The forward group is being led by Elias Pettersson now.

They got younger, a middle 6 centre, a right shot D-man whose floor appears to be 3rd pairing NHL D man. The Canucks are less competitive today from a pure talent perspective but in two years the value of the pieces will most likely favour the Canucks.


And not having the last 3 years of the Miller contract is significant value.
