Confirmed with Link: [VAN/NYR] JT Miller, Erik Brannstrom, & Jackson Dorrington for Filip Chytil, Victor Mancini, and 1st 2025 (Top-13 Protected, Unprotected after)

something had to happen

chytl has a hard time staying healthy it seems...Mancini loops promising the pick is good and well Millers contract was going to get ugly at some point. he most certainly was not a 100 pt player anylonger.

NYR like the deal for sure though. Bet this lights a fire under them.

We had a 2-3 year window to win a Cup. That window is basically now closed.

The end of Miller’s contract was irrelevant because we were going to be rebuilding by then anyway.

The "cup window" was just a façade. The team had no cup window with how this team is constructed. With or without Miller. Lets be honest here. Its not like we are 1 or 2 players away. Last year was an anomaly. They get swept by the oilers this year, next year, the year after that.

What an absolute disaster of a return.

Chytil (Shityl?) is a borderline negative value asset. NYR just took us to the cleaners.

There aren’t even words for how much I hate this. Window is closed. 100 point matchup C for an overpaid 3C with concussion issues and a 5D prospect.

Hopefully we trade Pettersson now too because I really don’t want to watch either of these immature losers ever play for this team again. They’ve both totally f***ed this team and the fans.
Looking back it’s infuriating Petey sat on a boat talking about wanting to play for a winner. What a load. So you run a 100pts C out of town for a bag of crap?

We are down to two elite pieces - and one is mentally fragile. That is not enough to win a Cup.

And the 1st only becomes valuable if it slides. This year’s draft is crap and all the GMs know it.

Other teams wanted him in 2022 and 2023. They doubled down when they knew there were issues. They waited until his value got f***ed.

Zero foresight.

What are you talking about? By all accounts the Canucks had Miller on the market and ppl were confused (what we know now is it was likely due to locker room issues)

Teams didn’t bite then either.

Yep. Don't get why people are pissed or surprised at the return. JT Miller did not hold much trade value. 1st + Chytil was as good as could be reasonably expected.

I've said many times before, there were too many red flags on Miller. He's 32, long contract, NMC, known toxic malcontent. Not exactly a bidding war.

This. There was a handful of teams to negotiate with. Maybe it was only one all along.

Accepting the adage that the team getting the best player in the trade wins, this isn't all that bad.

Miller (32)
Branstrom (25)
Dorrington

for
Chytil (25)
Mancini (22)
Protected 1st
+3M cap space

They got younger, a middle 6 centre, a right shot D-man whose floor appears to be 3rd pairing NHL D man. The Canucks are less competitive today from a pure talent perspective but in two years the value of the pieces will most likely favour the Canucks.

And not having the last 3 years of the Miller contract is significant value.
I don't think it's as doomer as people make it out to be. Not the best of course, but I don't think this closes any window for the team.

This is exactly the same argument I saw after every single Benning trade.

They traded a f***ing 1st line center for scraps. There's no sugar coating it.

Ahahah. This is ridiculous. Context is important.

If you expected JT miller, with his personality issues, contract well into his 30s, and NTC would get even close to what a 1st line center gets, that is 100% on you.

Pettersson didn't run Miller out of town. Miller ran Miller out of town.

They really did just do Kesler for Bonino, Sbisa and a 1st all over again.

Somehow we got a worse player than Bonino (with concussion problems to boot), a defenseman who's not at the level Sbisa was at (may end up better, but not holding my breath), and a 1st that may not convert until next year.

And instead of giving up a guy coming off a 43 point year, we're giving up the 100 point guy who's still playing at a PPG level.

This is a fireable offense with how bad the return is. Maybe the locker room gets better & everyone plays better afterwards, but man every single year the Canucks have competed I wish they could give up this little to get a 1st line caliber talent.

Just depressing.

Chytil is much better than Bonino, injury concerns aside

It's interesting that we just heard about him opening up his list yesterday. Maybe that results in more options after the 4 Nations?

Feels like a Kesler like situation. Eerie.

Edit: Just saw @thecupismine's post.

The trade didn't close the window for the team.

The window was closed by the two players involved with irreconcilable differences.

The question of blame comes down to whether you think management had enough information to make this call two or three years ago and maybe be in a better position by now, or if you believe that they had justification in their thought process that this could be water under the bridge if they managed it.

If you think it's the latter, you put it on the players.

If you think it's the former, you have to blame management for their direction choice. They should have done things differently when they came in if that's the case.

With the cap announcements today, this team absolutely could have become a contender. Not the favourite, but a contender.

I don’t get anyone that is trying to make this out to be anything other than a complete f*** up and fleece. We lost this trade easily, why try to act like we didn’t.

There is no chance in hell. Especially with the rift between Miller and Pettersson. It was time to move on. There was no turning back after Rutherford leaked everything. You dont think every team gets better with the cap going up? Just the Canucks?

i dont get why jt miller has low value. as long as hes on a contending team hes not going to have any problems. and hes going to be primed in for another 2 years of beast mode. he was the player that would of got many teams over the hump.. they should be fighting over him. he has high value
At this point he has a long history of being volatile.

We know how this management team operates. The trade that happened today isn't going to be the final result.

If the package the first and turn it into a young defender or center, it changes the outlook for the team. If Mancini comes in and is good enough to keep Deharnais, Juulsen etc out if the line up, that's a win in my book.
