Confirmed with Link: [VAN/NYR] JT Miller, Erik Brannstrom, & Jackson Dorrington for Filip Chytil, Victor Mancini, and 1st 2025 (Top-13 Protected, Unprotected after)

It's all about Hughes. Petterson will get spoonfed Hughes minutes now and presumably should score way more. He was still off during that stretch however despite the points.
Dunno if I buy this argument, last season JT played 20 more min with Hughes compared to Pettersson, and this season Pettersson has played 20 more min with Hughes compared to JT. JT's outproduced him both times.

But also I'm making a joke about how ridiculous this situation is.

This is 50 cents on the dollar but I'm not gonna freak out in the moment. I'm assuming they're gonna trade that pick, which will give us the full return.

The hope is addition by subtraction getting the cancer out of the locker room. Even if the two guys they brought in suck, if Pettersson returns to 100+ point form, it's a win.

All true.

They still didn't need to settle for this return.

Chytil is a #3C when healthy.

Rutherford was not kidding when he said "we might not even get a #2C back but..."

This is a pathetic return for a guy who is just 8 months removed from being a top 10 scorer in the NHL.

No trade clauses really affect the market (when the market is suddenly a handful of teams).

Oh that will absolutely happen at some point.

This team needs to have a shot of winning before Quinn Hughes becomes a UFA. This team is so far and away from that now. The forward group is being led by Elias Pettersson now.

So why not trade him before the deadline so the acquiring team has 3 playoff runs and two full seasons under control?

Or, you know, you could step off the ledge.

Teams don't want a head-case at high value.

I still put 90+% of the blame from this on the players for acting like children on the playground.
Miller's been like this his whole career. He got into a fight with freakin' Lundqvist when they were teammates.

Management chose to invest in JT anyway. You assume the risk that something like this will happen when you make that investment. Investment ended up tanking.

Any chance the Canucks keep the Rangers pick and trade their own? Is their own pick valuable enough to bring the return they need?

Think some are underrating what Chytil brings. He's an excellent transition player who has tremendous speed. He's got nearly identical even strength production to Miller. The main red flag is his health (which is a big one), but when he's healthy I think he's going to surprise a lot of people here.

i dont get why jt miller has low value. as long as hes on a contending team hes not going to have any problems. and hes going to be primed in for another 2 years of beast mode. he was the player that would of got many teams over the hump.. they should be fighting over him. he has high value

Do ppl not understand he had a no trade clause? feels like I’m taking crazy pills here

Accepting the adage that the team getting the best player in the trade wins, this isn't all that bad.

They got younger, a middle 6 centre, a right shot D-man whose floor appears to be 3rd pairing NHL D man. The Canucks are less competitive today from a pure talent perspective but in two years the value of the pieces will most likely favour the Canucks.
This is exactly the same argument I saw after every single Benning trade.

They traded a f***ing 1st line center for scraps. There's no sugar coating it.

Honestly, i think my previous comment is not enough, seriously does our management has a mental capacity of a 10 years old? which idiot would say yes to this trade? Honestly, this is Jim Benning level of failure. Are they insane? I demand not only they are fired, but their salary to be donated to charity as well, they do not deserved getting paid this season.
Again, as I and many people here have said for weeks, JT Miller didn't have much trade value.

He's 32, has an NMC, has a long contract, and is a known toxic malcontent. That's a lot of red flags.

The trade return is not a surprise.

Chytil is definitely a 2C when healthy, he's an excellent player, just a massive risk on his staying healthy, but its cheap & short term so nbd.

The real issue is team softness went up major, wish we got Rempe back too, but I could definitely see another trade for Greenway, maybe hopefully Olivier or crouse.

Huh so the rutherford interview really was intended to prep the fanbase for a not so great return on this trade. That's interesting that they actually seem to have a media strategy. I mean it's not a particularly great one, but it IS a strategy. That's a real step up from the benning era! It's funny to imagine how he would have handled this whole situation.

I was so close to buying a Miller jersey last year too.

Some of y'all might recall I kept saying in the playoffs, I was going to buy a Miller jersey. Would have been my first Canucks one too. Glad I held off.

Hughes it is!

As for the return. It's... disappointing. Chytil is actually decent if he can just stay healthy. Here's hoping he has a Byram resurgence. I'm not nearly as excited about a 1st as some people. For me, that picks needs to be punted out the door for a long term upgrade somewhere else. Ideally, we'd be looking at Byram, but I doubt Buffalo wants futures.

Pettersson better be ready. All eyes are on him now.

So this is your official decision? The trade sucks? U have decided.......lol

Why don't u give it a minute to see how things turn out? That might be an idea........I personally like the trade.......

Ideally we would have flipped him at his peak but it's like buying crypto you never can be too sure when that is........considering the circumstances and the very Bear market the Nucks were in they made out pretty good i think........

What would you need to have happen in order to judge the trade, the outbound chance of NYR dropping to 13th overall or lower?

We knew the return would be underwhelming. It is that and more.

Hes never really gotten the opportunity in NY.

His average ice time is 14 minutes per game. Hes got one less 5v5 point than Miller this season.

Its not like he plays a lot and can never score. Not saying hes going to be an all star, but theres some undeveloped potential there.
He's also one hit away from retirement.

I can't imagine how much his game is limited by having to worry about that in the back of his mind on every shift.

I thought Byram was risky, but compared to Chytil, Bryam looks like a bastion of health.

And not having the last 3 years of the Miller contract is significant value.

We had a 2-3 year window to win a Cup. That window is basically now closed.

The end of Miller’s contract was irrelevant because we were going to be rebuilding by then anyway.

Thats the market man. You may not like it but it is what it is.

Imagine trading Jack freaking Eichel whos locked in for 5 more years for Tuch, Krebs and a 1st. Thats a franchise player at age 25.

Also Tuch at the time of his trade was equivalent to Chytil today in terms of value.

Based on what they did with the 1st and what the Islanders ended up paying Horvat, that's a fine outcome. I'd rather have Hronek than Horvat straight-up any day.

Like I said, we'll see what they do with one of the 1st round picks they hold, I'm not imagining anything.

I would reverse the Horvat today if I could.

Hronek is a positional fix that sacrifices player quality. Horvat would be the positional fix and quality.
