Confirmed with Link: JT Miller traded to NYR for Chytil, Mancini, 1st round pick (protected)

lots of grumbling here of course but all in all this could have been so much worse. Love you Fil.

and obviously if we draft 13 this year, collapse and lose a top 5 pick next year, it will be the all time Rongo

Very torn on the trade. For me, this is a version of the Buch trade (in that it's a favorite player), but at least more of a return. Miller's a player, sure, but I hope this is an addition and not another distraction. We have enough of them.

As much as I've loved Fil--and I have been a very big fan--his injury history is such that it's made it hard to be sure he would be a factor on the team.

If I'm thinking selfishly as a Rangers fan, trying to get the max value possible for him at this point makes sense.

As a fan of the player, it sucks to see him leave New York, but I hope he manages to stay healthy, tear it up, and play confidently.

Smith is as good as gone (can't see why they'd resign him) so at worst that's 4 of 6.
Laf has been coddled, and he's young. He's also gotten a fair shake, as has Cuylle. I'd say that Berard has as well.
We aren't 'rebuilding' in the HF sense any time (IMO obviously, but i just can't see it). We'll keep making trades to get the players Drury wants. Some will be old, some will be younger, but the aim will be playoffs every year and improvement over time
I get what you're saying and you're 100% correct in what the franchise is doing. "playoffs every year and improvement over time". I just think that's a recipe for mediocrity. I'm tired of mediocre. A winner in this league requires a team that has focus in their construction with the time needed to nurture it. How long until we finally get that in New York?

it would actually be incredibly impressive. we didn't even have a natural top-5 pick at any stage during the 'rebuild did we? I think the lowest we got was 6th

Canuck fan just wishing you guys the best with Miller. Dont know if many of you were around in '94 but Miller -when he is on - is as good or better than Linden was imho. one of our best overall forwards in team history. can hit, fight, set up plays and score. he was having a down year here...probably due to all the drama.
Miller was good here years ago; but he had to be traded to fully bloom as a player. A likely story for a NY Ranger draftee.

This is okay. JT is a for real 1st line C. Mika I don't think can handle top 6 anymore. This could also drive him off the top power play unit.

I like Filip but he's injury prone and all of us have been over this time and again. He could be a hit away from career over and he's been hit 4/5 times already this year when he didn't see the hit coming. Every time he goes down it's like we're going on a collective death watch.

I also liked Mancini a lot but he's been struggling a bit with the Pack and we have RD and signing Borgen for 5 years kind of put him on the outside. Still he could be a really good player.

The 1st I kind of expected if this happened. That it's top 13 protected though is pretty good insurance for us if the season continues to go sideways.

JT has also got a game that's not all that unlike Matt Tkachuk. Miller puts up points and he'll go to physical areas to do it. We were missing a player like that against Florida last year. Barkov physically owned Zibanejad. In a head to head he probably edges out JT but it's not going to be anything near his ownership of Mika. JT when he is motivated is a problem for just about every team.
Good perspective.

We really were missing some toughness on our lines and this guy is that. Panthers out physicaled us in almost every way.

Miller really is a perfect fit with the belief that the change of scenary reverts him back to his 80-100 pt production.

Mika can go to the 3rd line. And maybe he'll start playing better.

I think this was a good move by Drury.

Miller wanted out and to the Rangers. He should be really motivated getting his wish. Just saying. Maybe he's an asshole in the locker room sometimes. He can be an asshole to play against and the Rangers need more of that in their top 6.

As far as Chytil---still a young center yes but it's like you almost have the feeling he's further on the back side of his career than JT. I like him and I hope he'll get past the injury issues but his concussion history really makes me wonder and he keeps on getting walloped like on average once a month where he's down and you're wondering if this is it.

The addition of Brannstrom gives us 8 defensemen and it's either going to be Erik or Zac as the 7th and my guess is Zac is going to get moved in the next day or two.

Honestly all that has to happen is for the players we have to play like they can. I'm hopeful Miller slides between Cuylle and Lafreniere, I think that could be a bitch of a line to play against.

I love Chytil but one of his last concussions happened at practice, this is more than just like any other player type of thing, he has a history and it seems as though it doesn't take much anymore. I personally like the trade, I think we stole Miller and with a change of scenery he's gonna pop.
Miller on last years team we quite possibly beat the Panthers and win the whole thing

The cap is about to go up $25m in 3 years. And after that, guess what? It’s still going up! The Covid cap gave the illusion that this is a league full of equals. It’s not. We’re on the cusp of being back to a league of some cap teams and otherwise, budget teams. Guess which one the Rangers are and always will be?

The “tear everything down and rebuild through the draft so we can be competitive in 7 years” crew really should find another team. This is not your team. They are going to build through free agency and trades with the hope that they can draft well with the picks they have. That’s it. Save your years and years of laments about oh how you wish they would just operate like Carolina or the Devils or get the draft picks that Buffalo and Columbus and Anaheim have had. You’re barking up the wrong organization.

Zac Jones must be FUMING right now lol I foresee Drury granting him his wish board waiving or trading him for a 5th. I’d rather deal him for a rental in a perfect world

If they move Kreider and Lindgren out and recoup that first/build assets from those deals to find Fox a true partner, then I could see a path where Miller, Tro, Mika works with some other saavy moves and signings to help support them, but its gotta be done fast because they only have 2 or 3 years at most with that center group.

Gabe and Othmann (maybe) next year to infuse youth, hopefully a resurgence from Laf. Cuylle is still young. Bring in another kid with wheels who can shoot and check, Berard on the 4th. Maybe theres some more energy there.

Personally I wouldnt have a problem trading Gabe for the right younger NHL power forward or a really good second pairing defenseman that helps solidify the defense to pair with Schneider. If theres a plan there then Miller is expendable and can be moved as well for draft capital/assets instead of extending him. Borgen is locked up and is versatile enough to play top 4 but on a Cup team is 3rd pairing.

I dont see Mika returning to form. Hes either the 3C/PK and off PP1 and you live with it as the cap increases or you do something rash to force his ass out ala Troubs. The problem is while you upgraded the team right now it wont last very long. All 3 are 31. And this is the problem with the whole premise right now.

As far as Chytil goes, very fond of the guy and his work ethic. Never complained, worked his way up and has improved. Hes very talented that was easy to root for and i wish him well in Vancouver. I hope he kills it out there. Hes got some really high end talent that he continues to develop and the Nucks got a really good kid. We know the risk with him and it sucks that it came to this point, but its understandable.

I think mediocrity is pretty much the norm league wide. Obviously you need good players to win but I really haven't seen much in the last few years, probably since Chicago/Pittsburgh, that doesn't make me think it's all just changing things around until you hopefully strike gold.
The mediocre Rangers went to more Conference Finals than the Avs with McKinnon, Landeskog, Rantananen and Makar, and now they've started dismantling that group (doesn't mean they can't go up again).
The Caps were the definition of mediocre until they weren't and won one with an ageing core.
The Blues were just flat out lucky
Vegas just keeps throwing darts until one lands

You do need some kind of plan, and I think Drury has one even though he is terrible at telling us what it is (and we may not like it anyway), but I think league wide there's a lot of 'put everyone in the car and then let Jesus take the wheel'

It's not a bad trade at all. It's a bad trade for the Rangers because this team is rotten to the core and JTM is not fixing it. And I'm a huge Miller fan. Another 1st gone, ok fine we weren't going to develop him or draft right any way. Fil always hurt, sure. But he was our most electric puck mover this season, even with injuries. It's just another trade that is an indictment on our organization as a whole. We only seem to get the better end of trades/deals when a guy really wants to play in NY. Otherwise we suck at developing or drafting. Case in point, welcome back to NY JTM who we got nothing for in the first place.
You are never happy

Actually I think Jones is probably hopeful because barring injury he wasn't getting back in the lineup and now with an extra D it forces the Rangers hand---if they can't find a trade partner they'll have to waive him and I think there's a decent chance he'll get picked up and if not he could always go the Brandon Saad route. Refuse to go to Hartford and force the Rangers to terminate his contract.

That's right....their buddies going back to when they were teenagers.

lol, I'm a Rangers, Mets, Giants, fan. Why would I be happy. And I'm old, tired of seeing the endless squandering of assets. I will say I am overall happy with the trade. It heavily favors the Rangers. But if it's a trade that supposed to supplement the current vet core, than yeah I like it less. However if it's the first domino in more moves to come (Kreider, Lindgren, hopefully Zib down the road), and a complete shift from our veteran core than it may be the greatest move in a long time.
