Confirmed with Link: JT Miller traded to NYR for Chytil, Mancini, 1st round pick (protected)

Canuck fan just wishing you guys the best with Miller. Dont know if many of you were around in '94 but Miller -when he is on - is as good or better than Linden was imho. one of our best overall forwards in team history. can hit, fight, set up plays and score. he was having a down year here...probably due to all the drama.

People are mad but if we put Mika and Kreider on the third line our third line is not really any worse than last year's with Bonnino. We had two fourth lines last year. Is Mika/Kreider really any worse than that? Our top line is better because Miller now is better than Mika last year who was already on the decline and there's no one as bad as Wheeler on that line this year. The BIGLY difference is that the Trocheck line has been at 70% of last year at best. The defense, btw has no Trouba so I don't think it's any worse than last year. PP will be worse because even if you replace Mika or Kreider with Miller now, one of those bums is still on it. But I really don't think this roster is that much worse. Just with the Panarin line wakes the f*** up. People are acting like this is a bottom feeder and yet talent-wise they're not much worse than last year with Miller and the D improvements.

This is okay. JT is a for real 1st line C. Mika I don't think can handle top 6 anymore. This could also drive him off the top power play unit.

I like Filip but he's injury prone and all of us have been over this time and again. He could be a hit away from career over and he's been hit 4/5 times already this year when he didn't see the hit coming. Every time he goes down it's like we're going on a collective death watch.

I also liked Mancini a lot but he's been struggling a bit with the Pack and we have RD and signing Borgen for 5 years kind of put him on the outside. Still he could be a really good player.

The 1st I kind of expected if this happened. That it's top 13 protected though is pretty good insurance for us if the season continues to go sideways.

JT has also got a game that's not all that unlike Matt Tkachuk. Miller puts up points and he'll go to physical areas to do it. We were missing a player like that against Florida last year. Barkov physically owned Zibanejad. In a head to head he probably edges out JT but it's not going to be anything near his ownership of Mika. JT when he is motivated is a problem for just about every team.

Did we ever even find out what happened between JT and the canucks players who disliked him? I just know there was a rift but never once heard a cause

Miller-Tro-Mika is not terrible center depth by any stretch, although ideally Mika would be replaced be someone in that 24-28 year range who was cheaper (like a less concussion prone Chytil..).

We just have too many wingers though so something has to give. Panarin, Kreider, Laf, Cuylle, Berard, Othmann, Gabe is already 1 too many for the top line, and that's ignoring the current guys on the 4th line plus other guys in Hartford (Sykora). Some don't need to be on the Day 1 roster next season, but it'll be a logjam very quickly unless more moves are coming by draft day

You just said we will get picks from upcoming Lindgren, Mika and Kreider trades. If you move out Panarin, Kreider and Mika you aren’t immediately improving the team, you are making them worse (it would still be the right thing to do).
Never mentioned Bread. I said we will get picks/prospects for CK, Mika and Lindy. With the way they have played lately I don't know if JT for CK/Mika makes us weaker but those deals (not Lindy) may come in the offseason.

Laf and Cuyle are now the only players in our top 9 under 30.

Feels like just a few years ago we started a rebuild, and in one season we skipped to the retirement home stage of it.
But then conceivably you could have Berard and Othmann in the top-9 post deadline, and then Gabe to start next season, and now 5 of the 9 are under 25...

Greaaat, we traded for a locker room cancer in his 30s on a team that's not going to contend for a Cup this season or over the next few years. And we gave up a 1st, a middling prospect and our only C in the org under 30 with Top 6 upside for him.

hooray.

EDIT: f*** i even hate the protection on the pick. It's an 8, MAYBE 9 player top end of the draft, and we protected til 13. Next years draft is way better too.

The only thing Chytil is on the cusp of is being sidelined long term yet again. This is a no brainer.
Every single player is one headshot away from retirement. Look at Sauer for example. There is a legitimately good chance that in a year or two we have an entire center group that is quickly fading or faded and not one young player who can play that position.

I don’t think this team is anywhere near a cup, but you just don’t get star centers for that kind of value any more, especially under contract with a skyrocketing cap.

Team is still 3-4 major moves away from being a competitor, but on paper it’s a no brainer.

We knew they weren’t going to rebuild so in for a penny now I suppose. Get rid of The dead weight and get a blueliner

Honestly all that has to happen is for the players we have to play like they can. I'm hopeful Miller slides between Cuylle and Lafreniere, I think that could be a bitch of a line to play against.

I love Chytil but one of his last concussions happened at practice, this is more than just like any other player type of thing, he has a history and it seems as though it doesn't take much anymore. I personally like the trade, I think we stole Miller and with a change of scenery he's gonna pop.

Haha. The drama that he was at the center of.

Definitely more talented than Linden. Significantly worse attitude and resiliency than Linden.

Guys dont usually pop at his age. In a vaccum the value is good but the makeup on this center corps is really a disaster waiting g to happen now

I just read this somewhere. Apparently a Canucks practice got really heated towards the tail end of October. EP and JT slashing each other and it ended with a fight between them......and after that nothing but bad blood.

The assets in the trade are essentially a wash of bad for both sides, I think. I don't think the assets sent to Vancouver were good to give up, but on the same side I don't think Vancouver fans are happy with the return either. Lose-lose to mid trade, IMO.

We'll have to see how JT does in his second stint with NYR. I hope Chytil does well in Vancouver and doesn't have more concussion issues.

Kind of concerning that JT is in only year 2 of 7 and the Rangers have no real youthful centers anymore. It's concerning down the middle at this point.

You could have them *if* vets are moved. So far, these vets have only been coddled and chosen over their younger teammates. If the kids are given a fair shake, great. But this team has set its path whether they do or don't. They want to try and win in the next 3 or 4 seasons, I'd say the current roster isn't good enough to do so, so what's next? More moves? Realistically, how long until the team needs a full rebuild?

What it comes down to is: will they have the hardware in the next few seasons to justify the trades we've seen this year? I'd be ecstatic if they did, but I'm expecting a long drawn out rebuild after a few more disappointing years rooting for this franchise.

Smith is as good as gone (can't see why they'd resign him) so at worst that's 4 of 6.
Laf has been coddled, and he's young. He's also gotten a fair shake, as has Cuylle. I'd say that Berard has as well.
We aren't 'rebuilding' in the HF sense any time (IMO obviously, but i just can't see it). We'll keep making trades to get the players Drury wants. Some will be old, some will be younger, but the aim will be playoffs every year and improvement over time

'Nucks fan here. I'm a bit numb to all of it, right now.

Not too fussed over the return. It is what it is. To be expected.

FWIW, you definitely got the best player in this trade. I loved his passion. He has been everything we could have hoped for since he arrived from TB. Our team just lost the fire in its belly.

Dunno anything bout the D prospect. Hope he's a third pairing guy one day, I guess.

Chytil: Level with me, what are we getting?
A guy who is injury prone but a dynamic skater with offensive touch when healthy. Personally, I think he has an “it” factor required for a top 6 role.
