Confirmed with Link: [VAN/NYR] JT Miller, Erik Brannstrom, & Jackson Dorrington for Filip Chytil, Victor Mancini, and 1st 2025 (Top-13 Protected, Unprotected after)

The response on the Rangers board is mixed. Skimming the replies, I couldn't find anyone thrilled with the deal. And then the thread got shut down after just four pages, for no reason that I could see. Odd.

the rangers wanting JT never made much sense. It figures their fans are not thrilled with maybe giving up a high first rounder and a prospect (that they probably over-rate, like every team does)

Upon reflection, the return for Miller is basically the same one they got for Horvat from the Islanders.

A regular season roster forward in Chytil; and prospect in Manicini; and a first round draft pick. So if the first rounder is eventually flipped for a player like Hronek, this deal might yet be a 'win' for Vancouver.
but jt miller is way better with a great contract. bo horvat was up for a new contract and he was playing way above his level

People that are talking about the protection....

Guys, if the rangers are so bad that they stay bottom 13 with Miller, wtf do you think is going to happen next year with their core all getting older and staying. Its not a bad protection by any means.

2026 is a much deeper draft too. Unprotected and Rangers finish last, boom GAVIN MCKENNA to the Canucks.

This is a poor trade, like the Horvat deal, but that's the precedent this management team had set.

A subsequent trade will not change the evaluation of this trade. Whatever player they get with the 1st will not near the play of Miller (just like Hronek compared to Horvat).

Aside: Could you imagine them flipping the pick for Byram and NYR drops to 13th or lower? Gods no.

The irony of this happening at the Horvat trade anniversary...

So this is your official decision? The trade sucks? U have decided.......lol

Why don't u give it a minute to see how things turn out? That might be an idea........I personally like the trade.......

Ideally we would have flipped him at his peak but it's like buying crypto you never can be too sure when that is........considering the circumstances and the very Bear market the Nucks were in they made out pretty good i think........

Yup. We’re f***ed.

Pettersson for Necas or something maybe keeps our window open. This does not.

We had 4 elite players a year ago and now Miller is gone, Demko is wrecked, and Pettersson is a human tampon.

I honestly don’t even know where we go from here.
The smartest thing would be a complete rebuild.

JT Miller is significantly better than Bo Horvat. He's also not a UFA like Bo Horvat was.

You think Rantanen would've been traded for Necas+ if he wasn't a UFA?

Miller's value should be way higher than Horvat's.

he's also 32 and on a contract for another few years

This is a key piece. No protection on the 1st next year.

If the Rangers don't really turn it around, the Canucks could have an incredibly valuable pick next year.

Digesting and some thoughts.

- Return was going to be terrible. Other teams smelled blood as the situation in Vancouver became untenable and these idiots forced Vancouver’s hand.

- Have to think the hill Vancouver tried and to die on here was getting that 1st round pick. Wonder if that’s the reason for changing from Lindgren to Mancini (disclosure: I know nothing about Mancini other than he has put up some okay-ish stats this year)

- I hope this means Petey stays. I’m pissed at him too, but we simply can’t afford to trade away two franchise level centers for scraps. Hopefully he’s able to regain his form now that the spectre of Miller has been dealt away.

- Wonder how hard Miller comes at Petey the next time we play NYR.

- I think either our 1st or the 1st we just acquired will very shortly be in play for a defensemen. Dobson is a pipe dream without big adds, but man would I love that. Canucks sure seem to like Byram. I don’t know who it’ll be, but that’s what I think will occur.

If Pete thought the fans were harsh on him before? Yeah, put up more blanks and he'll wish Miller was still here.

Allvin and Moleman just lost a lot of my faith in them. Of course this is not all their fault, this is a multi facet mess with multiple contributors.

This season is already destined to crash and burn, and they think doing THIS will help?

There may be a follow up closer to TDL, who knows. But as it stands now, this trade's return is total f***ing shit.

And finally, our entire PR and internal communication team should all be tied to a f***ing rocket and sent to wherever the f*** Commando Dimbo went.

That's kinda funny.

Scott Wheeler didn't even include him in the team's top 14 prospects that he ranked this January.
Scott Wheeler not including him in the prospect list is like saying watchmojo didn't have my favorite movie in their top 10 list. Who the hell cares, he goes off vibes. I don't think he has even watched like 60-70% of the prospects he talks about.

Did you see his Canucks list?

This is pretty shit eh?
At least we have two first round picks now in the top 15. Would have liked a better player for right now. Not sure how help chytil will be. If he can play close to millers level this could be an okay trade. It smells like the end for this core which makes me sad :(

I honestly don’t even know where we go from here.

Next moves should involve:
-Selling off every UFA.
-Seeing if anyone is willing to take on DeBrusk, Myers, Desharnais, etc
-Trading Pettersson after he fails to rebound and has zero excuses left.

What I expect:
-Aquilini to throw a tantrum
-JR/Allvin to mortgage the future to salvage this shit
-Team to moronically spend to the cap the next 2 summers.
-Team to finish bottom 10.

he's also 32 and on a contract for another few years
Which is a good thing. You get him while he's still in his prime for fair market value or lower, and moving forward, 8 million is the new 6 million given the salary cap numbers released this morning.

mancini isn't any better than mcward imo. i watched him a bit last year when he and mueller were on the mavericks. he might get some time but he's just kind of a guy. no real upside there

Did they?

We just won 3 in a row.

Miller has 14 points in his last 17 games. He unquestionably helps this team make the playoffs more than Chytil and Mancini.

There was absolutely no pressure to trade him today rather than tomorrow, the next day, or whenever a better deal presented itself.
I disagree with a LOL mixed in. You have a GM and President announcing to the world that the situation was f***ed up beyond repair. It had to be done. If anything they waited too long.
