I don't really agree with this. I think the difference in the Canucks 1st (late 1st) and the Islanders 1st (mid 1st) is larger than the difference between the other pieces. I don't think Kuzmenko had any value right now and I'd personally take Raty over Brzustewicz.

This seems less than the Horvat return, not massively so but I think it is less.
Raty is a difference, but Beauvillier at a negative value with 4M cap hit for 2 or 3 more years is brutal and the Canucks payed a 2nd to get rid of Dickinson at lower cap hit. The fact they got value from the Hawks for Beauvillier was solely because his term was up this year and the Hawks were in trouble

I'm an enormous fan of Hunter Brzustewicz, I had him in the 1st at the draft. I think he has top pairing upside, and the complaints about his skating and defensive play are overstated. His IQ is elite and he takes over games. That said, there is a non negligible chance that he goes to the AHL next season (he was a late birthday draftee) and falters at the pro level. If he does, his value is nowhere near what the Canucks got out of him today.

I am also a huge fan of Elias Lindholm, I think he is a piece that if he clicks puts the Canucks over the top. Brzustewicz is probably 4-5 years out from being an impact NHLer.

The rest is negligible to me, Kuzmenko was awesome last year but he and Tocchet had bad beef and he had no value after all the scratches and poor performance this year.

Yeah. I'm not as high as a lot of people on Brzustewicz, but this is a pretty fair assessment. He has the potential to be an impact piece and the biggest "centerpiece" of this deal in the end. But he also has a pretty appreciable bust factor still. It's not just an automatic for offensive D with some of his relative weaknesses (size, skating, defensive reliability) to struggle with that Pro transition, and NHL jump in particular. Even when they're wildly productive like that. He's also probably like you said...4+ years away, minimum.

The good news is, even if he does become a stud for Calgary...every time their fans want to rub it in Canucks faces, they'll still have to figure out how to type out his name. And i think that's punishment enough and probably a bit of a deterrent.

Sucks for Lindholm. Out of Calgary just to go to Vancouver

Hoping lindholm fits well and extends at a reasonable rate, otherwise that's an expensive rental.

The rate at which he extends will be a direct barometer on how much he hated Calgary, if the rumors of his passing up a $9M x 8 deal are anywhere near true.

The delta between those numbers and the next contract he signs will fill in the blank: “I wouldn’t take $_____ if it meant staying with the Flames.”

Kuzmenko had Calgary on his NTC so I can't help but wonder did he waive to go to Calgary?

Or did he waive to go to Calgary with the understanding that he would be traded by the deadline or at least before next season?

Perhaps calgary gave him guarantees of pp1 or something so that he can boost his stats for his next contract?

All I can say is I'm really curious to see how both Kuzmenko and Brzustewicz do in the Calgary organization. I genuinely hope this is a win win trade and that both teams leave happy. I think it worked out that way after the Horvat trade for sure.

A win-win. Lindholm and Kuz are both better than they've shown this year - Lindholm is gonna pop off on the Canucks PP and when he's stapled to Petey.

Calgary shores up on picks/prospects while getting a player that hasn't been able to put it together this year, but is still a legit top 6 winger with elite hockey sense. Just didn't mesh with the Canucks system unfortunately. Calgary fans will love Kuz outside the rink, hopefully he can perform well for them.

Importantly, Lindholm to the Canucks means that he doesn't go to the Avs or the Jets - he'd be a perfect fit in both those spots.

Does anybody know what are the conditions on the 4th rounder? Can it be upgraded?

4th round pick that upgrades to a 3rd if the Canucks make it to the 3rd round

Swing hard. This is essentially the benchmark "1st, roster player, and a prospect" deal with some Be-A-GM-Mode throw-ins. I just don't like that we aren't likely to extend Lindholm, so it's a lot to pay for a short period move. Buuuuuuut stylistically he looks like a great fit, and his flexibility makes the top 6 look absolutely juiced. He can kill penalties, can play wing or center, and can play PP1. What more can you ask? I think this deal would look a lot better on paper if we were in a position to negotiate an extension.

One nice aspect is that we recoup a lot of value from getting Kuzmenko's money off the books for next year, which should let us extend both Pettersson and Hronek without feeling squeezed. Kind of think that's where those extra sweeteners came into play.
