Yeah. I'm not as high as a lot of people on Brzustewicz, but this is a pretty fair assessment. He has the potential to be an impact piece and the biggest "centerpiece" of this deal in the end. But he also has a pretty appreciable bust factor still. It's not just an automatic for offensive D with some of his relative weaknesses (size, skating, defensive reliability) to struggle with that Pro transition, and NHL jump in particular. Even when they're wildly productive like that. He's also probably like you said...4+ years away, minimum.

The good news is, even if he does become a stud for Calgary...every time their fans want to rub it in Canucks faces, they'll still have to figure out how to type out his name. And i think that's punishment enough and probably a bit of a deterrent.
Calgary looks to have a pretty great track record with extremely gifted D-men who have lacking areas that need improvement. They identified Fox later in the draft, but also drafted and developed Andersson and Kylington and probably got the best case scenario out of both of them. Jeremie Poirier is also tracking extremely well after making the jump to the AHL after much larger question marks than Brzustewicz. I trust their development system to get the best out of him.

Calgary’s pipeline on defense was their biggest weakness in their prospect pool. They have Zary, Pelletier, Coronato and Honzek for forwards and Wolf for goalies, but only Poirier and Morin for impact defense prospects and both have question marks. Not a coincidence the two prospects added were defense, and another with top 4 potential in Brzustewicz is massive for their pipeline. That list of names is honestly closing in on being one of the most under rated prospect pools in hockey due to lack of blue chip prospects in it.

Good trade. Vancouver trade from area of strength to address pressing need- get a great 2 way C that fits their system better. He is a sought after player, they got their guy.

Calgary gets some nice pieces back. 1st, 4th, B prospect with rising stock in Brz, and Kuzmenko. Not sure what Calgary system is like but I can see him bouncing back and putting up offence for them.

Bzerst isn't a B prospect at this point. He's an A prospect. I'd rather trade our 2024 1st and 2025 1st. And keep Bzerst

There is a lot of value if you think you are getting the top centre at the deadline. Not just for your team but for all the teams that didn't get him.

I think there is also value getting him early. We so many players not live up to the hope because it's hard to walk into a team in the middle of the season and have some chemistry on the team. More games will help find his spot on the team.

If if if. I don't believe in going "all in" quite like this. I'd rather have traded our 2025 first and Podz instead of Bzerst
Hunter is a few years away and still just a lottery ticket. Right now we are a legit contender and adding Elias just made us that much better. When your this close you go for it in my opinion.

Most importantly, are the Flames the first team to have no representation at the all star game?

kuzmenko is a cap dump for the Canucks at this point and has negative value. Otherwise I wouldn’t say the return is massive.
That was coach Tocchets fault. He has better defensive numbers than a lot of one way players in this league. But he's still a one way player. Which isn't acceptable for him I guess.

Calgary bought at rock bottom low on 39 goal Kuz. It will probably end up like Boeser this year

As multiple posters can attest I was hoping we'd get Brzustewicz in this deal. I also wanted a 1st round pick. That was with retention. I consider the 4th (or 3rd depending) the price for taking Kuzmenko. I don't like Kuzmenko, but it's a smart add because if he goes on a high percentage spree again next season we could maybe flip him for a 2nd or 3rd round pick.

The Jurmo prospect I know nothing about. Not sure what he is, if anything.

I like this trade for the Flames. Conroy got a prospect I'm excited about and a late 1st. He didn't retain. For me this is a validation of him as a GM. I didn't like the Zadorov trade and honestly thought the Sharangovich trade was bad at the time, although I was wrong about that.

Yeah. Hopefully the 1st, 4th, or Brzustewicz turns into a top 6 or top 4 player.

Good for the Flames. A lot more than I thought they would get.

The conditional 4th is a little weird. I had a commitment tonight so have just arrived in the conversation. Any word on what the conditions are?
Hope it stays a 4th. Flames do a good job in that round unless they need to beat the Oilers
