Good trade. Vancouver trade from area of strength to address pressing need- get a great 2 way C that fits their system better. He is a sought after player, they got their guy.

Calgary gets some nice pieces back. 1st, 4th, B prospect with rising stock in Brz, and Kuzmenko. Not sure what Calgary system is like but I can see him bouncing back and putting up offence for them.

I'm an enormous fan of Hunter Brzustewicz, I had him in the 1st at the draft. I think he has top pairing upside, and the complaints about his skating and defensive play are overstated. His IQ is elite and he takes over games. That said, there is a non negligible chance that he goes to the AHL next season (he was a late birthday draftee) and falters at the pro level. If he does, his value is nowhere near what the Canucks got out of him today.

I am also a huge fan of Elias Lindholm, I think he is a piece that if he clicks puts the Canucks over the top. Brzustewicz is probably 4-5 years out from being an impact NHLer.

The rest is negligible to me, Kuzmenko was awesome last year but he and Tocchet had bad beef and he had no value after all the scratches and poor performance this year.
If Brzustewicz hits we lose this trade and we will never EVER hear the end of it.

This trade sucks. Linholm sucks

If we win the cup we win this trade and we will never ever hear the end of it. Maybe similar odds to Brzustewicz hitting his max potential

2 Years ago I said this about Lindholm:

"Meh. Lindholm is overrated, think the world will see that this year as he won’t be propped up by Johnny and Tkachuk."

Dude sucks. Knew it then, know it now.

Your point.. have you seen his possible linemates now?

Weird 2 year flex.

Canucks are the highest scoring team in the leauge.
Leave Pettersson with J.t Miller and Boeser.
Play Lindholm with Hoglander and MIkheyv. Mik and Lindholm are good in their own zone. Let them win faceoffs, move momentum back on their side. Hoglander can score, him and Linholm will put up some points.

Just dont touch the Garland line, they're lighting it up

Are they two 10M dollar wingers? And will Lindholm still be at his prime age? Quite the perfect situation needed to get the "best" out of Lindholm.

One of the strangest reactions we’ve ever seen on this site, after a trade.

There’s people who think Kuzmenko was actually a big piece in this trade, value wise, and others who believe he was nothing more than a cap dump, the Canucks have been trying to get rid of for 2 months, because the scouting report is now out on him, and he can’t respond to it.

He can score in space, but put pressure on him, he’s unable to create the space he needs to produce….. and the rest of his game is hard to watch.

I’m firmly in that second group, but he’ll obviously get his chance to prove doubters like me wrong.

If he doesn’t prove those doubters wrong over the second half of the season, there’s a good chance he’s bought out this summer, and heads home.

This is like the complete and utter opposite of Kuzmenko's game.

He's really only useful as a crafty finisher around the net area. He's extremely good at rolling off coverage, getting his stick free, etc. at exactly the right moment to put home tap ins, tips, short range goals from the edges of the crease basically.

It's his game in space that kinda sucks. He doesn't really bring a lot in that regard. He doesn't have great top speed and he's a smart player but not really a creative playmaker, and certainly the furthest thing from an effective puck carrier in space.

He basically thrives in the muck and traffic around the net area. As a complementary finisher. Getting taken out of that role is a huge part of why he's struggled this year.

Kuzmenko is also in the deal and could get h Flames another 2nd or a legit prospect if they choose.
Rentals don't really go for much higher than this.
Can he though? Maybe if he rebounds later this year or next season. But at this point he was a $5.5M healthy scratch/often liability.

Slightly better than the Horvat return I think
The value of Kuzmenko, Brzustewicz, and the Canucks 2024 1st today is probably similar to the value of the NYI 2023 1st alone, add Beauvillier (negative value) and Raty (roughly a 2nd) I think its about on par

Lol if he was first line play driver we wouldn't even be having this conversation. He was brought in to be our 2nd line C, a faceoff guy and a PK presence. The Canucks have their play drivers.

You're not going to get the angst out of most Canucks fans that you're looking for.
