People over-estimate the impact a player like Bedard has on a franchise.

How many 1st round picks did the oilers get? They now have McDavid and Drai and have yet to make a deep run in the playoff's.

Bedard might sell a lot of tickets and jersey's - but it doesn't always translate to cups. Nobody is destroying their team to acquire a mystery box.
Mostly agree with your point however the Oilers Did make it to the final 4 last year.

Oilers just made the conference finals?

From a CBJ fan’s perspective

First - we won’t win the lottery even with finishing last
Second - If we did win the lottery we would wake up form that dream and would realize we were dreaming and we didn’t win the lottery.

For the CBJ to get a true 1C is almost becoming a joke 23 years and counting. So winning the 1OA would be insane for Jarmo & Company to entertain a trade.
hey columbus, you traded dubois

As a Leaf fan:

If the Leafs fail to get out of the first round again
and
Matthews doesn't re-sign this summer
and
Arizona wins the lottery
and
Arizona has the cap space without sending anything back
then
I'd trade Matthews and Rielly for Bedard.

Bedard and the approximately $18M in cap space that it would free up for a few years would work for me.
if matthews does not resign, arizona can wait 1 more year and sign him for nothing, arizona has some good young talent , matthews will do pretty good playing with bedard, cooley and about 4 or 5 better prospects than the leafs will have in the next few years, rielly is not worth much to arizona.

Entire 2023 draft
Blackwood (RFA)
Bratt (RFA)
Nemec
Holtz
Mukhamadullin

balk at either Hughes, or Hischier being included. Bratt's the best piece in that package most likely but is about to get paid.
and the team with the 1st overall pick would balk without one of them in the deal. the devils are out of the bedard race.

Most likely:

Quinn Hughes
2023 1st (top 7)
Islanders 2023 1st (top 15)
2023 2nd round pick
2024 and 2025 unprotected 1st
2024 and 2025 2nd round picks
Demko
Rathbone

From an asset management standpoint, you’d take that deal. If there’s a team that does something as ballsy as this for the hometown kid, it’s probably the Canucks.

I don't know about that. Sure Forsberg turned out in the Lindros trade but he was still a prospect at the time of the trade.
Only if Bedard said that he didn’t want to go to say….San Jose? Then you can start asking around, and that what happened to the Nordiques, so they ended up with a great package for Lindros! If the Sharks had the same problem, I could see the trading 1st overall if they won it !

It 100% is. But to get Bedard, a teams absolute best player is requied, in MTL case it is Suzuki. Vancouver it is Pettersson. etc
Yep. There's only a couple teams where the best player would be too much. Edmonton Toronto, Colorado, maybe NJ according to their fans but I dont agree

McDavid is 26.

Bedard is 18.

Yes, McDavid is a maybe.
No he's not. I'm as high as anyone on Bedard but there is a still a chance hea "just" PPGish player.

Imagine trading one of the greatest players to ever play for that? Would set back the franchise a decade.

Not sure if sarcasm...
No not sarcasm. A top line centre (Stutzle) with a friendly cap hit, a top line power forward (Tkachuk), and one of the best defensive prospects in his rookie season (Sanderson). That is close for the trade from a value side of things. And in the case of for Draisaitl it would be an auto accept. Maybe holding on to Bedard for novelty factor would prevent it, but you’d be silly not to take it.

Other comparable offers:

Seider, Larkin, Raymond
Hughes, Bratt, Nemec
Suzuki, Caufield, Guhle, +
Aho, Necas, Slavin
Cozens, Tuch, Power, +
Zegras, Mctavish, Drysdale

Who is saying no on these for 1) Draisaitl, or 2) Bedard?

The 2OA, the 3OA, your best young D, your best young F and the next 2 or 3 years of 1sts unprotected.

Someone like Detroit with Seider and Raymond plus those picks would be a conversation at least

Well, it won't be nothing. To play in Arizona it would probably cost them upwards of $15-16M per year which they don't seem to have and then 2 years later when Bedard needs to get paid it will be over before it begins.

Edmonton won a cup after trading Gretzky. Imagine what EDM could add with 11.5m cap space when they still have Drai as 1c and add a PPG + player on ELC for 3 years.
