I think if Buffalo somehow falls in the standings and wins the lottery I could see them entertaining offers for the 1st overall pick.
Why? What is a realistic offer from any other team that would possibly move the needle for the Sabres here?

Sharks simply don't have the pieces that could add up.

Meier + Hertl + 2023 1st should get it done, but who can take on $17m+ minimum in cap space?

Habs could do something like:

Slafkovsky + Suzuki + 2023 1st

I'm not sure that helps the Habs long term though.

There's nothing really even close to realistic for this to happen. 1st overall picks don't get traded even in "normal" years when the field is more wide open, it's not going to happen with a guy like Bedard on the board.

For the sake of discussion, the only semi-feasible thing I can imagine would be (for example) MTL ending up with the 2nd overall pick via the lottery and FLA also ending up in the 10-12 range.

2nd overall + 12th overall + Caulfield I think would need to be heavily considered by the team drafting 1st but that hurts Montreal more than it helps.

Any picks or players from the Caps org except Miro. (Caps wouldn't include OV but I would... I'm also of the opinion that they should have started a reload last off-season by dealing Kuz, Wilson and Carlson.)

realistically,

Probably 5 first round pick equivalents. With bedard your not just getting a star your getting a player whose jersey could one day hang in the rafters. Jersey sales alone make it difficult for a team to justify it.

I think from the Habs it would take

caufield + both our first this year + probably Our 2024 and 25 first
Caufield + Suzuki to even get the conversation started.

What's your best offer for 2023 1st pick?
The only reason the pick would be traded would be if a team wins the lottery that Bedard doesn't want to sign with. Does that team exist? I haven't read or heard anything from the two sets of insiders.

I don't know about that. Sure Forsberg turned out in the Lindros trade but he was still a prospect at the time of the trade.

Difference is Lindros wouldn’t play for Quebec. In the end the Nords had to trade him. In this premise that wasn’t a condition. Bedard in theory based on that fact alone would make the cost higher. You are trying to buy an asset probably not realistically available vs an asset that had to be moved

As a Leaf fan:

If the Leafs fail to get out of the first round again
and
Matthews doesn't re-sign this summer
and
Arizona wins the lottery
and
Arizona has the cap space without sending anything back
then
I'd trade Matthews and Rielly for Bedard.

Bedard and the approximately $18M in cap space that it would free up for a few years would work for me.

If Buffalo somehow got lucky enough to win the lottery again there's no point in moving it

Bedard, Thompson, Dahlin, Power. That's the best core in the NHL going forward and isn't remotely close.

You make sure to get a good goalie and enjoy the long runs your team will go on

People over-estimate the impact a player like Bedard has on a franchise.

How many 1st round picks did the oilers get? They now have McDavid and Drai and have yet to make a deep run in the playoff's.

Bedard might sell a lot of tickets and jersey's - but it doesn't always translate to cups. Nobody is destroying their team to acquire a mystery box.
You can’t compare Bedard to Nugent Hopkins Taylor hall and that Russian bust

To get Benard , win the Lottery, or hope he's a bust and the team that has him is giving up on him, or wait 7 years and out bid 30 other teams and hope he wants to sign with your team.

No team would ever trade this pick.

and even Mike Milbury, it’s only a 70% chance he would trade it too.

He's not even going to be as good as McDavid.. nevermind Gretzky.

He'll be somewhere between MacKinnon and Crosby.
Mcdavid is better than Gretzky, but that’s another convo.
Next gretzky dude easy on the juice.
from an absolute skill point of view he’s much better than Gretzky, but making cross era comparisons are dumb. All the top line players in todays league are “better” than Gretzky

Sens offer a swap of 1st round picks, Stutzle, Tkachuk and Sanderson.

Lmao I wouldn't do it as a Sens fan, not even close, but the value seems about right if I'm the team trading Bedard away. I need a Lindros kind of return that has a chance to kick start a powerhouse team.

Yeah this deal would get it done in an instant. This would easily get a Draisaitl trade and probably even a Mcdavid trade.
