Both Kaski and Shuldt should be heavily pursued by MB. Habs need left d-men with size, speed, and skills.

From an intial reported 5 teams who were scouting Brazeau, there are now "at least" 10:

Habs in?

Does Kaski play on his off-hand? Because he shoots right. But for all I know, he plays on the left side. Either way, righty or lefty, adding him would be very welcome.

We shall see if Habs are reported to be in attendance. It's bound to come out.

On a size-challenged team, if Brazeau can remotely skate -- the Habs need to be on him. Free asset.

How many contract slots do the Habs have open?

Next year, they are currently committed to 30 NHL contracts. If I'm not mistaken, I believe they have 16 players under contract this year that will be either RFA or UFA. We know a number of them won't return (Niemi and Thompson), but others will be re-signed (Armia and Lehkonen).

But there are also Tyszka and Walford who will need to be signed as their rights expire in June. And quite possibly sign Poehling as is their intention. They will have room for some of these undrafted players, no doubt.

I was reading a bit of Friedman's 31 Thoughts earlier today and he was talking about Brazeau never working with a skating coach or a skills coach. His skating is his biggest flaw. But he can score and ever season, he kept scoring more and more.

No contract spots for projects. Use them on guys that can help right now either the Habs or Rocket. Already have enough wasted spots with the likes of Waked and Pizzetta. Time to spend money on talent and try to actually win and make playoffs.

we are at 30, 11 RFA's, 5 UFA's. So will come down to how many players they re-sign, any trades. They badly need to find some quality vets for Laval, if they deem Brazeau as not worth it vs other undrafted UFA's, then so be it as there's only so much room.

They should do a little bit of everything. Draft, sign undrafted UFAs, look to Europe, college, and major junior, and sign kids to ELC's. Waked and Pezzetta are very good in their roles as depth for Laval. I don't think they're wasted spots in the least. Not everyone you bring in will have the kind of impact of a Kucherov (as an example). You need the Pezzettas and Wakeds who will do the things and go to places the more talented players won't do or necessarily go to.

If all you have is a team full of Pezzettas and Wakeds, you're in trouble. But that's not the case. The more talented prospects are on their way in the coming years.

It will always be about making playoffs and winning and going as far as you can. But in the overall scheme of things, the Habs organization are not about the here and now at this moment.

Hirose with two points so far... Why do we always miss on these free assets ?

he signed where he played his college hockey but it's smart as he'll have lots of chances to impress there. If I were him I would have gone there or LA, etc.. those bottom teams that need youth. But he was my #1 player I wanted us to sign as a undrafted FA out of the NCAA. If he can add some mass and strength, might be something.

I don't buy it. We literally ALWAYS miss on those guys. Lindgren is the last big ufa we signed ? And I don't even think he was that big.

Not that attractive to many I'm sure. Cold, taxes, insane media pressure, rabid bi-polar fan base. Yann Danis was one of the more highly sought after undrafted FA's we signed and that was due to him putting Brown on the map as they usually aren't very good in the ECAC and he was up for the Hobey. I know the flyers wanted him but being a local you can see why he chose us. Hopefully Poehling convinces a teammate or two to join him.

You don't need them to do it with NHL contracts. AHL deals would get you the same type of players if you go after the right ones.

You can't fill half your AHL team with AHL contracts. You need players you think down the road might develop to play games in the NHL, even if they don't become career NHL players.

Also, if you want the right AHL players, some of them, you need to offer them an NHL deal in order to land them. Or else you'll keep losing them to teams willing to offer NHL deals to them.

Alain and Teasdale were clever signatures. Don't forget the kids out of the NCAA are a few years older so they usually have a faster impact than the younger CHL ones.

What the rule for AHL or Pro tryout contract?
Is there a max, Salary or bonus or expenses?
Like could we sign a guy to a 10 day pro tryout or AHL deal give him a bonus pay for is move to Laval, and than sign him to a NHL basically try double dip.

I don't think there's a limit on those. But high profile players will not sign a PTO and risk an injury for a tryout. I don't think players can sign two contracts at once. I believe if you have someone on tryout, he can be signed at the NHL level by any team and you can potentially lose him. Seems to me an NHL contract renders a PTO/ATO obsolete.

Alain doesn't look like all that clever of a signing especially when his teammate is killing it in the AHL and he's just put up average numbers, better then Waked, Nevins, Mayer, etc... but he looks slow for the AHL.

Barré-Boulet and Batherson, his ex team mates, are doing super great at AHL level and will soon be at NHL level. Alain, I doubt.
