Speculation: Undrafted FA Thread (NCAA/CHL/Euro) II

I don't know them all. I do know that Samuel Harvey was at Habs' camps. So surely they kept tabs on him.

Niemi isn't returning. Lindgren may end up Price's back up. That would make McNiven #1 in Laval. Primeau will stay in NCAA. Maybe they re-sign LaCouvee and bringing in Harvey will help with the goalie depth.

Abandonatto was top scorer in the Q this year. It doesn't necessarily mean it will translate in the pros, but I would definitely look to sign the top scorer.

I watched Abandonatto late in December when they came to town against Blainville
To be honest he wasn't that impressive, he played on the top line, had pp minutes but wasn't a wow
Teasdale on a much weaker team stood out a lot more
Maybe it's just me but I wouldn't sign him, I would rather just send an invitation to camp

Matthew Struthers is the kind of guy I would sign right away. Kid can play and it's a shame he went undrafted last year. I'd actually prefer him to Brazeau.

He is a 2000 born basically, I would assume he is still draft eligible?
 
also Bob McKenzie is saying that the Wild will sign undrafted FA goalie Mat Robson. I don't think I saw him this year but heard he had a few NHL offers. There are a ton of interesting undrafted goalies in the NCAA this year so not worried about missing out on him.

This is why you need an ECHL team, you can give some locals a chance and see if they can play pro without wasting contract spots. The players also get a year to decide if they want to continue a pro career or go the CIS route.

That will come in two seasons if Habs end up being affiliated with the incoming Trois-Rivières team.

I believe next year will be like this year, where guys will be spread around the ECHL.
 
any chance that one of Poehling's teammates (forwards) will get an NHL contract? especially talking about Lizotte, Newell and Jackson. Who's the best of this group ...

St. Cloud is having such a great year so far ...

and: not st. cloud - but what about Corey Schueneman? western michigans captain and two back-to-back seasons with more than 20 pts ...

Jackson has been to one of our camp so we've got familiarity going for us there ( ditto for Schuldt) . Lizotte is only a sophomore so he might want to stick around a bit more with St-Cloud . Newell is ready to turn pro and he might be interested in following Poehling, he's a california kid though so he might want to stick to the west coast. We'll see !

I wouldn't sign Schueneman, I would sign his teammate Cam Lee.

Jackson for sure, I'm sure it would be good for Poehling to have him around since they played so much on the same line.

for sure unless they like Harvey better, but I'd like to see us pick up a goalie prospect for free and there are a lot of interesting guys. Plus Vincent Riendeau has done a good job finding and working with Condon and I assume Lindgren since these 2 weren't highly touted and Condon wasn't even a starter until his Senior year.
 
Hirose who was the number 1 undrafted FA that I wanted us to sign, picks up his first NHL point tonight. Interested to see where a few of his teammates end up. Plus it looks like Cam Lee's NCAA season is over, they are on the bubble for the ncaa tourny so I assume he'll wait to sign till Sunday when they announce the 16 teams for the ncaa tournament.

sounds like the Nucks could be getting Kaski and it doesn't sound like we have any interest in Brazeau but I wouldn't be surprised at all if we land Schuldt. I certainly think we land at least one player from SCSU to join Poehling.
