If Lindgren is our back up next year that leaves McNiven in the AHL kind of by himself. Primeau has another year or two in the NCAA, so yeah I'd like to see them sign one or two FA goalies to have someone in the AHL and ECHL next year. We need to draft some goalies this year and it's a great year to do it: Hlavaj, Wolf, Ellis, Maier, etc.

I think Primeau turns pro after next season but he could turn pro this off-season, I know his coach hinted that he's playing so well it may push the Habs to sign him. I'd like to see him stay one more year to let McNiven finally have a full season as the starter that plays most of the games.

I don't think they need to draft a goalie, they hold such little trade value and there are so many undrafted goalies doing well that I wouldn't use a pick unless they had a situation like Primeau where he was injured so his numbers weren't good but someone saw something in him. I know they have Riendeau scouting goalies at least in the past so if he's high on someone then so be it since we have the picks. I wouldn't be surprised if they sign Harvey since he did well at the development camp last summer and is having a good year. He could be in the ECHL next year and then maybe do another Armia trade with the panthers to get Reimer and let him and Lindgren fight it out for the backup job, loser goes to the AHL with McNiven.

I understand what you are saying, but the Habs are in no position to not go after a high end undrafted FA and it is quite depressing to never hear them in on any. With the utter lack of talent this team has, you would think that they would pull all the stops to sign the best ones, but i'm pretty sure we will go after some unranked smurf from Quebec just to show we are not neglecting our back yard after Tampa Bay embarrassed us in this area.

When you have your 2 best and likely top 3 prospects incoming, you have to make sure there's room for them. We are about to get a major influx of talent and it could be more depending on what they opt to do with Romanov, Ylonen, Primeau. Most undrafted FA's don't amount to much so it's not a big deal. Maybe Teasdale does something, although our record with the Q isn't good so we are better off in the NCAA. If we got Lee and Harvey or another goalie I'd be more then happy. I don't see any undrafted FA making the Habs next year unless it's a LD and even then it would be a surprise.

I think the value of goalies in the draft become pretty high once you hit the fourth round and beyond. I'm not advocating picking one before that but when you get into those rounds, the chances of getting a decent to great goalie is probably higher than finding an impact forward or defenceman.

If we take Reimer, Panthers need to give us something good ! His contract dosen’t finish next year

of course that's why I said another Armia situation were we trade a nothing prospect for something good and their camp dump. Reimer should be a good bit better then Niemi and if not then hopefully Lindgren is.

Hirose to Detroit

that's where I thought he would go, makes more sense as he'll have a much better chance of getting playing time. I think he's legit if he can get stronger.

more guys will be gone next week since now all NCAA conferences have their playoffs start.

After Verroneau, the Sens sign Gendron. Though he is on an ECHL deal the rest of this year with Brampton and then on an AHL deal next season.

Just saw this too! Thats good news the kid is already 24 but still posted decent numbers in the ncaa, the few times i’ve seen him, he was mobile and smart on the ice, can’t comment further more on his ceilling and how he will translate but who would say no to free productive assets in a position of need! It will also make poehlings transition easier!

According to DLC, Bergevin have interest in Nico Sturm

Did they site a source for this or was it them just saying he'd be a good addition (more of an opinion than a fact). Because I looked around and the two teams that seem to be the top contenders for Sturm are Vancouver and New Jersey.

UNB and Alberta playing tonight in the USports final, expect a few of these guys to earn NHL contracts. I can't comment on the Alberta players or frankly players of other USports teams who will be looking for NHL deals, but I've seen UNB play more than a few times.

Among them:
F Christopher Clapperton:
25 years old
5'9" 174 lbs
4th year
Just an amazingly talented forward and a real threat to shoot. Good release and accuracy on his wrister. Clapperton plays with a chip on his shoulder, always getting under the skin of his opponents. His skating is quick and deceptive, very tough to read. Though he's among the oldest players on the team as a 1994-born, I do think there could be some untapped potential there. Clapperton had a short stint in the ECHL before joining the Reds which didn't go too great but since then, he's improved leaps and bounds, becoming UNB's number one offensive threat. If I could have any player off that team it would be Clapperton. He'd be a good addition to the Rocket right off the bat, at the very least.

as well as Mark Simpson, Stephen Anderson and Kris Bennett, though Bennett and Simpson are only in their second and third years of university respectively.

Sign him to an AHL deal with the Laval Armada Alumni Association

Any news on Sturm ? If he's not on the Habs radar I'll be pretty mad.

his team is still in the playoffs and they should make the ncaa tourny, so he won't be able to sign until the end of the month or April if they advance.

The official QMJHL twitter sending a tweet to the Habs with a link from an article on TVA Sports' website listing 5 undrafted players that should interest the Habs.
