I doubt that we have plenty of very fast skaters on this team & if Formenton comes back he's another. I just don't think you can win in the playoffs with Brannstrom on the backend & I would much rather have Kleven & Hamonic as my 3rd pair. They make our defence much harder to play against.

I was joking since I would like to see some weight in the backend for sure, but we don't have that many speedy players. Outside of Stützle, Sanderson, and Chabot, who else has that separation ability? Formenton yes, but he's a huge question mark. Only other guys are who... Joseph and maybe Gauthier?

You can't tell me that any of the other marquee players we have are fleet of foot. Ottawa is below average in overall speed.

You just listed 1/3 of a team that are very fast. That’s not below average.

Klevin - Hamonic would be a nasty pairing. We are seeing players relying on their skill losing effectiveness as the playoffs get deeper

One third of the team? Half of the guys I listed were question marks. Formenton's future is unknown, Gauthier is a RFA that was often a healthy scratch, and Joseph is at best a third liner that produced very little who most people here feel is overpaid and an anchor on the salary cap.

One third is also not that great even if it were reality. All the top forwards with exception of Stützle are average and in some cases below average. Tkachuk, Giroux, DeBrincat, Norris, Pinto, Batherson - none of these guys are relying on their speed to drive offence.

Norris is not average speed. He is better than that.

Going to the Worlds and DJ will be his coach so should be getting a good role. Hopefully they can match the bar Nick Paul and Connor Brown set.

Separation ability? This is the NHL, the best league in the world. Very few players have separation ability in terms of speed.

Formenton and Joseph can both separate based on their pure speed. I'm not sure that's the case with the other 3 you mentioned.

Regardless, playing quick isn't fully about speed.

lol, oh yeah, American, fuzzy head today. Still hoping this helps his development. And maybe DJ's a bit too.

Not much. Speed is not what he's known for.

Just because a guy is not slow that doesn't make him fast.
He isn't known for his speed because he is known for his great scoring ability.

He has plenty of speed, he just doesn't have to show if off much but watch him when he wants to go, he will surprise you.

I think Kleven will make the Ottawa Sens roster for opening night next year and will play with the Sens in Ottawa all season.
Unless someone blows the door down on an offer for brannstrom, kleven is starting in the A. Don’t think we want that young of a bottom pair.

Right now, the bottom pair is two of Brannstrom (23), JBD (22), Thomson (22), and Kleven (21).

I'm not sure there really is much of a difference in which young kids we play, the bottom pair will be really young unless we sign or trade for a vet.

okay orlov will be there
Idk, only if accepts a cheep deal, we need more size on the backend from our third pair, I don't think he's a fit at 5'11 if we already have Brannstrom....

Seriously though, I don't think Hamonic extends, we have limited cap space and need a goalie more than a vet third pair D. If we don't extend DeBrincat maybe.

You know, Hamonic is a strange cat. The one thing he's done consistently since becoming an NHLer is make decisions based on his family.

He sounded very sincere in his praise for the team, city, and how much his family likes it here.

He's made 35M US. I think he's probably likely to sign anything that isn't viewed as an insult.

If we are willing to give him 2yrs I think he's back for sure. If not, he'll consider the market.
