Right now, the bottom pair is two of Brannstrom (23), JBD (22), Thomson (22), and Kleven (21).

I'm not sure there really is much of a difference in which young kids we play, the bottom pair will be really young unless we sign or trade for a vet.
What are the nhl games played by them? If you have easy access.

You know, Hamonic is a strange cat. The one thing he's done consistently since becoming an NHLer is make decisions based on his family.

He sounded very sincere in his praise for the team, city, and how much his family likes it here.

He's made 35M US. I think he's probably likely to sign anything that isn't viewed as an insult.
Strange cat indeed.

I actually like him so I have no issue with keeping him around the way we did with Holden. I just see two kids who's waiver eligibility just came up, and limited cap space, so keeping him around is either a commodity or at the expense of one of our developing former first rounders.

I like him too. Thomson is the guy I suspect goes on waivers

I could see that. I like Thomson's tools but idk if he'll figure it out and put everything together.

Idk if he gets picked up if he's waived, but I do think with another year in Belleville he might become a legit callup option.

Heck, there's a really good chance Kleven ends up in Belleville due to his waiver status. He needs to be head and shoulders ahead of the competition to make the team,
You're probably right, but that could be a big mistake. If Kleven is one of the best 6 D-man on the team, but they keep a lesser player, say JBD, what if the team misses the playoffs by 1 point? You could directly pin it on keeping a lesser player in the lineup to start the year. It's not like we're a lock to make the playoffs, we need every point we can get.

If you keep Kleven at JBD's expense and lose JBD on waivers, next thing you know someone gets injured and we have nobody to call up.

If you keep JBD and send Kleven down, the moment someone gets injured (i.e., typically all the time), you can call up Kleven, and you haven't lost JBD. In this highly likely scenario you get to have both.

No, you really can't DIRECTLY pin it on that.

If Kleven ends up in Belleville that's just par for the course as a young player trying to earn his keep in the NHL

Never having played in the minors is by far the minority in development paths. Very few players jump directly from college or junior to the NHL without ever having a coffee in the AHL

People put too much weight on the impact a 6/7th D makes, we had guys like Schubert Persson and Kwiatkowski on the roster in our hayday. Went to the ECF with Wideman.

Right now we have 6 guys with top 4 upside or better. 4 of them are already established top 4 or better.

Kleven is in a great situation where he doesn't need to be rushed, he can be our first callup, and work on things in Belleville that need to be improved.

He can, he can also join the team add some size & toughness on the backend which they need & a big shot from the point something this team doesn't have much of from the blueline. He brings tangibles the team needs but it will be up to the org whether he is ready for an 82 game schedule or they bring him up later in the yr. I hink it's just a matter of time before he is in Ottawa to stay.

Kleven > JBD

That said you don't lose JBD for nothing to keep Kleven this year. The injury risk stated above is accurate. He will get his time full time I the show soon. Maybe even next season but not at losing JBD. Will ditch brannstrom first I would think

I haven't been able to watch any of the Worlds.

Any feedback on his play? Have to think it isn't great or would have seen more chatter.

Maybe the Sens will keep 8 d-men on the roster, assuming Hamonic re-signs. Kleven, Hamonic, and JBD fight it out for the #6 role. Inevitably there will be injuries, so depth is important.

I am so impressed by Kleven, his style fits the pro game so well. He did much better than I expected at the end of the season. Plays a smart simple game, and is big strong and mobile.

Unlikely we keep Kleven up to be a 7/8 guy when he could be playing 24 mins a night in Belleville and called up anytime injuries occur

I wonder why Tyler the Terrible didnt start in the tourney right away.

So toolsy, hopefully the Beautiful City coaches can get his decision making up to pro speed next year before he comes up. But i guess we'll see what happens in camp

Its possible Kleven has reached a point in his development where the NHL is the best place for him. If he is one of the top 6 D. He should stay up. If he has to go down short term to make room on the roster numbers wise and not lose assets .. so be it. If he is better off in the NHL get him there,

To think there was some sarcastic push back when I suggested that I wouldn’t be surprised if he made the roster out of camp.

He’s looked good, potential is high for him to be a player for us. I also agree that it may be hard n our best interests to send him down to start if we want to avoid putting JBD and Tompson on waivers.
