I think Kleven is NHL ready, but if they don't move a defencemen the numbers game could end up sending him to Belleville until room is made in Ottawa. We'll see what happens over the summer, lots of time for something to happen.

To think there was some sarcastic push back when I suggested that I wouldn’t be surprised if he made the roster out of camp.

He’s looked good, potential is high for him to be a player for us. I also agree that it may be hard n our best interests to send him down to start if we want to avoid putting JBD and Tompson on waivers.
I know I pushed back but don't recall being sarcastic, although it's a possibility.

D take longer and most get seasoned in the AHL, playing big minutes against pros.

Coming from college as a guy that needed to work on puck skills and decision making doesn't scream immediate NHL starter.

The waiver requirements of other young D further complicate things as does the fact he is a LD, of which we have an abundance.

His play at the end of the season has me rethinking things but the points above remain valid.

I want to buy a Tyler Kleven Adidas jersey before they’re gone but man that’s a lot of money.

I’ve been looking for NODAK Kleven jerseys on eBay but I’ve yet to see one.

NHL ready is kind of an undefined term, probably with different meanings even within hockey circles.

I completely agree he can play in the NHL. But, would he benefit from seasoning? I think JBD could have played the entire year in the NHL last season and I suspect the only reason he was sent down was after the high ankle sprain his game wasn't at the same level and they had the option to send him down.

JBD being ready works well for the team because he's an RD that plays a quiet game. We need RD.

And to me, one of the best signs of organizational depth is having NHL ready players at your beck and call in the minors.

I hope they don't make trades this summer to move out D. It's a strength and Kleven can play in the minors. He's gotta pay his dues like 95% of the guys do. Let him get some seasoning playing top minutes and then have his physicality ready for the playoffs if needed

Some time in the AHL will do him good. A bit of polish on his mobility and some time to put on a bit more muscle will help him a lot.

A bit hard to judge him in this USA/Sweden game, but from what I see, he isn't quite as fluid as he could be. But there is a ton of potential. Kid is huuuuge, and seems to know where to be.

It wasn’t you ;) I totally understand and agree with all of this. All I said was that I wouldn’t be surprised, which was a weird thing to get aggressive flak for in my opinion.

I also don’t want to lose a young D for nothing, especially if they want to keep them. Kleven has to go down if they desire JBD and are keeping Bran. Just has to be the way we start rather than a gamble that some shitty team doesn’t grab him.

This guy is gonna be a stud. Honestly. If you watched him play this year when he came in STRAIGHT from college. The guy can handle the puck pretty well, better than guys like Gryba or Cowen who were big boys. He won't ever be Pronger but I do think I agree with the Phaneuf comparison by Dorion in terms of puck skill and shot, in his latter years. Not in his prime obviously. Phaneuf was a competent #4/5 in his time here who was a beast in our run in 2017. I see Kleven having one year in Belleville and getting some PP time. Then full time 24-25 on the bottom pair taking over Hammers spot

One year in the AHL and then potentially bottom pairing D in Ottawa.

JD Burke with more ammo for being the best internet scout without ever having any kind of hockey background

Between the Stutzle and Kleven scouting reports, I'm surprised he's a free agent.

The 2020 Sens draft vs. Burke is hilarious. Only team that did worse than the Sens in the draft according to him was Nashville, citing Evangelista (who looks absolutely amazing) as one of the worst picks in the draft

So who else was high on this kid from the start?
Without looking back I am going to assume that I was in a wait and see mode. Hopefully I wasn't swayed by the comments about goalies handling the puck better than him LOL.

I will say once I was able to watch him a bit more, I was intrigued due to his mobility and aggressiveness. The fact he seems to have really improved his decision making and puck skills is a huge boost.

Reminder that it's important to look at who made the comments (Who made it regarding puck handling? lol). I paid more attention to Nick Fohr's comments and interview

I see Klevin being a Ryan Suter type of defenseman eventually.
So the best on the team? Might want to re evaluate those expectations...

I hope he can be a top 4 guy that is hard to play against. Maybe like a Brayden McNabb or Nicholas Hague on Vegas.

I am, but will need to start in Belleville to start, because of cap.
He should start there barring injury no matter what. Feed him 25 + a game in all situations. Exciting prospect for sure. Couldn't believe his puck skills tbh. Expected the size and skating but he is a more polished player than I expected.

He won’t play a lot of games in the minors. Highly unrealistic to expect the Dcorps to stay healthy. Kleven would be call up priority #1. Might even jump JBD for a spot when he is up and keep him at #7

His puck skills have improved a lot in the last 15 months. I think he still needs to work them and on thinking the game, at the pro level especially. But it sure doesn't seem like work is something this guy is afraid of. I want to see him play significant minutes in the AHL but he's making a believer out of me.

I think the upside is a Methot type player. Or maybe like an Andy Sutton.

I see where you're coming from but if Thomson makes it through waivers and starts off strongly they will probably want to get a look at him in the NHL
