Almost done with Money Heist. 5 episodes left, have binged all 5 seasons over the past ~3 weeks.

I've watched a bunch of foreign series on Netflix in the past 6 months....Dark, 1899, Physical 100, Alice in Borderlands, obviously Squid Game when that came out, now Money Heist. Any other recommendations?
There's a lot of French action flicks on Netflix if you're into action. They're also low-CGI, just old school style action

Lots of hits this season, haha

Finally watched the first 2 episodes. Took an edible that didn't kick in until the wife and I had gone to bed. Laying there watching on my ipad w/ airpods in, the VR sketch and the doggie door/pig in a mask sketch had me DYING and trying not to wake her up from my laughing.

I loved Physical 100. Have you seen Siren? It's similar, but just teams of Korean women grouped by profession.

Alice in Borderlands s1 was very good. I thought s2 wasn't as good, but still entertaining.

No mention of the Bear on Hulu? S1 was great, but I think s2 was even better. Fantastic writing and acting.

I just watched Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant. I’m biased as a veteran who spent parts of my career in similar (nowhere near as Hollywood badass) special operations units and a big fan of Gyllenhaal but I thought it was a terrific movie.

Did the setup not piss you off?
My wife made me turn it off because I was getting all worked up about the lacki of planning, the lack of support, the terrible placement of the humvee/GPMG, the QRF being useless etc etc

I could definitely pick it apart. I get that Gyllenhaal was supposed to be a high level operator with the latitude to run his own little team, but the way they planned that raid off minimal intelligence (obtained on the word of a Taliban member they bribed and threatened on an unsanctioned grab and bag) was real fast and loose. I get they were also supposedly getting frustrated at striking out on mission after mission and getting maybe a little complacent but they came in hot and casual - as you said no real tactical positioning of their vehicles, didn’t do a good job securing all of the suspects on arrival and let this dude make a phone call before discovering him 5 feet from where they were. QRF took days to respond - 100 clicks in a bird shouldn’t take 15+ minutes when you have target confirmation and 6-8 high value operators on the ground. Plenty of things you could nitpick but for me, once Gyllenhaal set those charges the suspense and cinematography and acting was all top notch and had me hooked.

I mean it was preposterous enough that the interpreter was able to drag Gyllenhaal all the way back to base 100 miles alone, making him out to be some superhero interpreter. But as entertainment I enjoyed it. The back and forth Q&A when they first meet was cool, with Gyleenhaal giving away a little grin.

I also didn’t pay enough attention through one watching to recall why they would have ditched the JG’s radio but they didn’t need to get 100 miles on foot, they just needed to get back within signal range. The target was ~100 clicks out and they had comms when JG called it in. When they fled from the Taliban they lost signal range in the truck. They couldn’t have gone more than 10 miles. In theory they should have been back within comms range by the time they made it to that house.

Regardless of things that didn’t make perfect sense, it was the way it was filmed, the quality of the relationship, the message of perseverance and honoring promises and the quality of the acting that made it very enjoyable for me.
