Except that, you and many others here want the Jets to make a panic trade and give Trouba up for anything we can get. Which helps the team in no shape, way or form and will likely not help them win games now or in the future.

I'm saying the goal is to replace his value to the Jets. If no one wants to step up and do that, then we won't trade him. It won't hurt us any more than it is already. Trading him for inferior pieces would indeed hurt the team.

Since so many Jets fans have turned down fans of other teams offers including JT Miller and Brady Skjei from NYR and Carlo and Spooner from Boston, I think if Trouba is traded you are going to be severely dissapointed in the return.

I'd be happy with Miller and Skjei, less happy with Carlo and Spooner.

I think you may perhaps lack an understanding of the difference between RFA and UFA players. He isn't trapped here and is free to ply his trade overseas until he is 27 if he wishes. If he wants to play in the NHL however, he is bound by the terms of the CBA and those terms include that the Jets hold his rights for the next 4 seasons, full stop. Teams can offer him a contract and the Jets can match those offers and they have said they would. He is free to play elsewhere overseas and is free to ask for a trade, but the Jets don't have to grant his wish. The Jets are also free to ask to be fully compensated for the 4 years he has remaining here in a trade return and to determine the exact worth of that asset, period. They get to determine that value, not anyone else. It doesn't matter if you think they are asking for too much.

I know the difference between rfa and ufa, thanks.

By "stuck there" I meant within the NHL, thought that was pretty clear in the context I said it in. WPG is already not attractive for many players, stuff like taking 3 years to move Kane and potentially sitting Trouba out a whole season only make that worse. Why, for example, would any NCAA player with any doubt at all about wanting to be there sign after something like this when they could stay in college and become a UFA instead? My post was made in response to someone saying the team would be less attractive if they were willing to move RFAs who don't want to be there. I completely disagree.

The value of something is determined by the seller and buyer when they agree on terms of an exchange. It does matter if WPG is asking too much because it means the team continues to fail while a valuable asset slowly loses value.

The point of the GM job is to the build the best team, not to be as rigid as possible in one specific trade. Chevys team isn't good and he has an asset that he can't use himself but that can be exchanged for other assets that will help his team. If he asks too much and he doesn't move that asset, of course that matters, it's him failing to do his job.

We were told the same thing when Kane wanted a trade and Chevy made a killing on that one. I don't think too many Jets' fans are worried.

Put Skjei's and JT's performance to date side by side to see how they compare. Same draft and same age. Do you think Miller is the difference? I hope that Chevy doesn't think so. At least with Carlo there is a reasonable hope of him becoming a 1st pairing, even if he is a RD. The other two in the deals are both good players, but neither are needed. Just my thoughts.

One month away from the Jets/Trouba's deadline!
Then they will also have to protect him but I can't seeing it going that far

A worse failing would be to trade Trouba for a hot bunch of nothing like you want him to.

As for your comments about being stuck there. So, a team that is playing by the rules of the CBA is wrong? I guess only in this case, not if your team was doing it, right?

They can trade him or his rights at any time. He just can't play if he isn't signed by Dec 1.

Any proof to back up this idea that every offer has been garbage or pennies on the dollar? The only officiak word we've heard is Chevys demands, which don't make any sense for any other team.

They're not wrong to play by the rules of the CBA. I never said they were. I said sitting Trouba out for a year would exacerbate their issue of being an unattractive destination, and I think it would.

If the rangers had a player sitting out on November first and saying they will not play for the team again I'd hope to god Gorton would be smart enough to get the best deal possible becefore December 1. I'd rather the team be good than go all in on some stupid Pyrrhic victory.

Unfortunately, the Jets at are going to hold fast to the principle even if there is some collateral damage.
I'm sure they have the support of the other Canadian teams.

It is Jacob Trouba we are talking about, not Doughty, Weber, Suter, Subban, Karlsson...Should I keep going?

This is a #3 d-man with the potential to be a #1. Skjei is a #6 in his first year in the NHL that is already pushing to be the #3 and running the 2nd PP unit. While their development curves are different, their top end COULD (not will be) wind up being very similar. Miller is absolutely worth that difference and very well may be overpayment.

Instead of making a dollar for dollar trade, you could be trading a dollar for 75 cents and 75 cents and wind up with a dollar fity....

Unfortunately for them.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills with some of these things. They have support of ownership. They have support of other Canadian teams...

Does it make them a better team? If yes, good decision. If no, bad decision. Sitting Trouba for a year is a resounding no - it doesn't make their team any better this year, they still have to move him next year, and they'll be moving a guy with no contract who hasn't played in over a year.

Trouba's deadline, not the Jets'.

If he doesn't want to sign with the Jets, it is completely up to him if he wants to play this year. If he wants to, he'd better give Chevy the chances to have a passable deal on the table. As of now, it certainly looks like Trouba wants way too much to actually get any of that. It's just absurd on his part, because in the end, there's always one man who has to agree over ANYTHING related to Trouba playing in the NHL - and what Trouba is doing is reducing the possibility of that one man saying yes. It's just not logical at all.

You may or may not believe it, but Trouba is now at least five months into his masterplan of getting traded. The only thing he's achieved so far is a loss of over half a million dollars, while the GM is not showing any signs of caving in, with a full support of the owner and the fanbase behind him. Unless Trouba somehow either a) accepts a trade to "unwanted" locations, b) is willing to sign to get traded, or c) signs and plays well to make teams raise their offers, he'll just continue losing money, while achieving nothing. That's why this is not on Chevy - he does what's best for his team, which is not taking any deal that's offered. He wants something that can help on the back end NOW, and no one can force him to budge.

If Trouba wants to make Chevy's life harder, he's also making it worse for himself, and vice versa, BUT in this case, there's no question about who's the one that's not co-operating here. Is it the one who refuses to sign and also nixes deals between certain teams and the Jets, or the one who's not trading Trouba because he doesn't see a worthwhile deal being offered?

Actually, we will not be disappointed. First of all, we have been hearing the same trades over and over and we keep telling folks that it will not happen and guess what, it hasn't happened. Do you expect the Jets fans just to agree with your proposals? Well you are in for a surprise if you do. Personally, I will disagree with you just because it is really my only choice.

Complaining about how the jets management will handle this situation will not increase the likelihood that he gets traded to the Rangers. Guess what, it will not affect your team one way or another so relax and things will eventually play out and then we can discuss whether the Jets did the right or wrong thing.

Unfortunate for Truoba

Thanks for coming out, but your point will not change the fact the Jets will only trade him when it suits them and it is in the best interest of the Jets. Just so happens that the best interest of the jets is not to trade him to the rangers.

I'd like him on NYR but I don't think he's our only choice at all and I don't think my discussing this interesting hockey scenario has any effect on what will h happen.

I am relaxed, I think this is interesting and worth discussing so I'm discussing it.

Lol why?

I sure wouldn't want my GM to be the one to do that

Then it is a good thing Chevy is not your GM then. I see that you are really a closet Jets fan. Maybe you should change your avatar and dump that team you pretend to love since you seem more concerned with what the jets do then the rangers

And for the bad team that doesn't get any better while an asset they could have used loses value.

Prove to me he loses value? You have no idea what you are talking about. You have no idea what offers have been made and have no way of comparing them to the eventual deal if it is made.

You are not discussing anything. you are taking shots at the Jets management for doing what they feel is right. Rumor has it the jets would never trade him to the Rangers anyways

I like that return, I think I'm in the minority on that when it comes to Jets fans. I don't like that Miller needs to be protected but I prefer him over Hayes.

Thats understandable, i prefer Miller over Hayes aswell haha. Hayes is definetely more skilled but Miller is faster, works harder and just contributes more all over the ice imo.
