At both players salaries and Trouba not offering anything special and still wants a 6-7M$ contract, im more than happy with Beaulieu and hope he reaches his potential next season with Weber. In fact, i would take him over trouba any day of the weak mainly cuz I wouldnt want trouba at that price tag.

Ah got it. You prefer Beaulieu because of untrue things you've made up about Trouba. Lmao

[mod] Its just a combination of a higher ceiling and too much money for a D that doesnt do much. Hes just a good top 4 D with not much Offense in him. He plays to defend. More like Fowler is but less effective.

I think to only one with reading comprehension issues is you, cause you seem to think it's an established fact that Trouba is asking for 6-7m when this is decidedly untrue.

hay did u guyz know Skinner is 1 hit away from being vegitation? LOLOLOLZ!!11!

You do know that previous concussions are a strong indicator and risk factor for future concussions, right? Hasn't Skinner had like 4 major concussions that kept him out of games?

Yeah that's all well and good, but I haven't seen any research that suggests that a persons concussion history becomes less relevant over time. Concussions have a cumulative effect and the best indicator for future concussions is number and severity of past concussions

He's had 3 total. Although it's hard for me to say what is major and what isn't, I'll go by games missed. He has not had anything near to what Crosby had, not even close.

Skinner's 1st concussion, I'd deem as major. He was out for 16 games I think.
Skinner's 2nd concussion he missed 6 games.
Skinner's 3rd concussion caused him to miss I think 3 games.

I agree that concussions are nothing to brush off lightly, but the constant comments that "he's 1 hit away from drinking his meals through a straw" is a bit over the top and what fans are reacting to. Nobody says it about Crosby or other players who have had either multiple concussions and/or much more severe ones than Skinner has had.

Is he at risk? yes. Is he at an elevated risk due to history? Yes. Is he 1 hit away from retirement? probably not much more-so than other players as anyone who takes a devastating hit to the head can be done.

EDIT: where he could be more at risk for leaving the game is if he decides the CTE risk isn't worth it any more and hangs them up. To me, that's the biggest risk if he has another

Perhaps the fact that he hasn't had a major concussion issue in the last two seasons would be informing that he's made a change in his style of play that makes him less susceptible to head injuries.....and if you've seen him play you'd know this to be true.

Crosby and Bergeron are at worse concussion risk than Skinner (if you go by # of cocussions/severity), but you never hear about them being "1 hit away"

Trouba for Hanfin. Can it happen? I doubt Carolina is looking to part with Hanifin. But everyone is available for the right price, and Trouba (plus?) should definitely be in the ballpark of the "right price". I'm guessing most would suggest that the Jets add here. If so, would Roslovic be enough? Roslovic and a pick? The jets will likely have to over pay to pry Hanifin away, and I'm fine with a realistic overpayment. So what's a realistic trade for Touba and Hanifin to swap teams?

The other thread made it clear that the jets will only take McDavid, Crosby or Alex O anyone offering anything is else would be insulting the entire Jets fans base

The canes aren't losing Hanifin to an offer sheet.....

If he develops at all they'll give him whatever it takes, and they'll have room. They'd trade Faulk to make room for Hanifin if they had to, I expect.

What he actually said that if the Jets offered Laine, the Canes might not even accept that.

This is what I found hilarious and decided to cut bait talking to a bunch of homers.

I'm not a Canes fan, so there's no "homer" factor at play. What is so crazy in suggesting they might not be interested even if Laine were offered? Hanifin came in as an 18 year old and exceeded expectation. You've got a young D without any question marks to any part of his game who already has one year of development under his belt. He could be an established top pair defender by the time his ELC runs out. That's rare.

I get that it's equally rare to find a prospect of Laine's caliber when it comes to sniper/goal scoring ability, but I think if you canvassed every GM, a small majority would go with the defenceman. (I admit it's close).

If I'm the Canes GM, it would be pretty tough to pass up the opportunity to watch Hanifin-Faulk play 25 minutes a night for the next decade.

Hanifin doesn't land you Laine, not even close. And if Laine indeed got offered and the Canes turned it down, the GM would be looking for a trip to Bahamas in order to escape the following turmoil.

To quote the Big Lebowski, "that's just, like, your opinion, man."

Agreed. Laine would be the minimum for Hanifin.
Potential #1 defenseman > Potential 1C > Potential 1st line winger

Not always the case. How many #1 centers would you take over Kane, Benn or Ovechkin?

How does Trouba's value compare to Slavin?

Slavin is too unproven to carry a lot of value. He will likely start the year on the top pair next to Faulk. If he continues to play like he did at the end of last year he has the same value as any other potential #1, 23 year old D.

I wouldn't trade Slavin for Trouba right now, but I'm on record as saying that Slavin will be the best Canes D (above Faulk and Hanifin). He is on a path similar to Josi or Brodie.

How does Trouba's value compare to Slavin?

League wide Trouba would probably have more value, but Slavin likely is worth more to Carolina for the same reasons as Hanifin. He won't have to be protected in the expansion draft, he doesn't need a new contract, and he's shown the potential to play at a very high level.

I don't think any of Faulk/Hanifin/Slavin will be traded right now. In a couple seasons, probably, since the latter two and Pesce will all be coming off their ELCs and will likely be getting hefty raises. Hopefully by then one or two of Fleury/Bean/McKeown/Carrick will have shown the ability to offset that loss.

That's a pretty simple formula you got there.

Here's a secret...not all front-line players are equal. To say Laine is a potential 1st line winger is understating his ceiling. He could be a top sniper in this league that surpasses most 1st line wingers.

Talking ceiling vs ceiling... Hanifin's ceiling is a Pietrangelo or Doughty-level #1. Which is comparable to the best wingers in the league.
