It might make more sense to look at what other players of the same age and calibre are getting under the current contract rules.

Nice Ninjaedit, but hey:

4.0-4.5mil is pretty usual for players around his TOI and p/60 on 5v5. Trouba can do a 2 year bridge, if he thinks he ll be worth 6mil in couple years.

And for the record, nobody will give him 6mil. If he keeps insisting on 6mil, there won't be a trade. Even a dumbsterfire like toronto can't afford to gamble 2mil long term cap on unproven player.

It's an elaboration there's nothing sinister about it.

Ryan McDonagh signed a $4.7M contract at an older age than Trouba and that contract was regarded as an absolute steal at the time. Oh and that was 3 years ago.

Not sure where you pulled $4M from or why you're evaluating defensemen (apparently solely) on ice-time and 5-on-5 P/60. Not to mention the Duncan Keith comparison which makes zero sense.

Edit: Just noticed you think Toronto is a dumpster fire? k

Flames would never do that trade. We would lose one of Hamilton or Trouba to expansion. So the trade would be Johnny for Ehlers + 1 year of Trouba. No thanks.

This is a fair Statement. Flames has a lot to lose doing this trade. Spot on

wouldnt trade where toronto is (rebuilding to something meaningful)
to be in minnys position (complete mediocrity, no young blue chip talent and an overpaid veteran roster).

you think the leafs would really care about an extra mil to trouba?
they dont have 13 guys making 2.5+ like the wild, but they do have about 50 million in space in 2 years

safe to disregard everything he says. he thinks trouba would be the wilds 5th highest paid dman

PIT: Maatta + Kuhnhackl + Fleury

for

WPG: Trouba + Dano + Pavelec (w/ some sort of slight retention)

We can't take on another goalie. We can only protect one and it's likely going to be Hellebuyck. We'd basically be giving Fluery away to Las Vegas with this deal. Maatta is interesting though..

I included the goalies because Cap is an issue. I'd do the same deal without the goalie swap if Trouba ends up taking less than 6M AAV

Yup

He broke the Tanev signing and a few other things. Warned us the jets wanted Stanley. Probably the best insider for the Jets until he called it quits.

We have a few others as well. None that had the amount of information Garret did. But they are still trustworthy sources. I know everyone wants a TSN analyst to tell them all the info but sometimes they don't have a damn clue whats going on either.
