Look at what these pitchers make in baseball and a solid outing is 6 inn , and they could be pitching a shutout maybe even a no-hitter and they get pulled . Look at what a 11-12 th man on a NBA team gets ...........I get it for average stiffs like us it is hard to understand , but hockey players over the years have put in the time and work ,and sacrifices by the families good luck to them..........
I fully understand and appreciate the fact that professional sports athletes are always wildly overpaid. What I meant specifically is bottom 6 guys (whom by definition are JAGs and easily replaceable), are now cashing in. It's insane. I personally would never overpay for a guy like Freddy and he's getting $900K per year more than he really should be. Giving him that extra money doesn't make him $900K better either, it just means you overpaid.

I feel like you're asking for trouble signing a guy his size/style past 29 anyway, unless he becomes more of a possession guy or moves to C. Wouldn't be surprised if this is his last contract with us tbh, barring a massive step forward these next two years.
They have two years to see what's what with him. He's trending Charlie Coyle to me, but needs some work, and needs to show he can deliver in the playoffs. Two years seems the right investment for a guy that still has some promise and possibly more to give. They'll know at that point whether he is a solid middle-6 guy that is worth a decent multi-year deal or another bottom 6 JAG.

I don’t like that he’s a ufa at the end of this deal.
By that point he will either be part of the core up front or people will be glad to see him go.

I mean folks want him dropped after a real strong season on the 3rd line. Two more years of that and there will be pitchforks. If he grows into a top 6 forward who can score 20+ and KO folks for acting a fool then he'll be a fan favorite.

I hope that with Looch back he doesn't have to take on the heaviest weights and thus can focus on becoming the power forward we all hope he can be and become a top 3rd liner.

By current NHL salaries it's a reasonable deal.
When has he really ever taken on a heavyweight though? He typically picks non-fighters and middleweights to go with. Pretty much a spot picker.

With the new norm of the payroll structure, we risk becoming Toronto East... If he turns into a 25-25 player + then we will be hard pressed to find him the 4.5M+ per in 24 months, just like Jake today looking at 6M+ I'm sure on his next deal...

Bergeron and Marchand gave up millions to play on a balanced and deep roster over the years - likely the better part of 10M-15M each. The new kids don't see it the same way and I doubt Frederic will either on his next deal seeing everyone else take home market value +.

He's making 35-40% of what each of his third line mates made last year - but he's the one who's overpaid...

There are no heavyweights anymore just a few old dinosaurs roaming the 13th forward tundras of the league.

Because we’re obviously talking about the quality of the player not the actual line he’s on.

Karson Kuhlman spent the majority of his time on the Bruins on the 2nd line. Is that guy an NHL 2nd liner?
No it’s because people can’t process that he played very well as a third line winger. Most fan bases would be excited if a player in development for years broke out in his age 24 season to score 17 goals with strong defensive play. For this one, it’s an anomaly that would never happen again and we should get rid of him. He’s not a fourth line player despite people wanting to bully him into one - how many 4th liners scored 10 goals much less 17 last year?

He played in the top 9 on the most dominant team in the history of the league.

I think you could find plenty of 4th liners who if given the opportunity to play top 9 minutes on last year’s team they would achieve similar. Nick Foligno had similar production and I certainly consider him to be a 4th liner.

So a guy who was good enough to play top 9 on the most dominant team in the history of the league didn’t belong there. Seems backwards. But ok.

He fought Tom Wilson at least. Didn't win but at least threw down with him. More than once.

Yeah and hasn't fought anyone close to that caliber since. And let's be honest. He was wildly overmatched and was hanging on for his life.

Sweens crushing the summer

T-Fred at $2.3 M this year very good but two years

Yowza.
You and I have vastly different definitions of what "crushing it" means my friend. Look at whom left and what came in. That's not crushing anything other than the Stanley Cup hopes and dreams of Bruins fans everywhere

I'm with you at least conceptually.

I think there's a real chance Frederic is more than that and this contract puts him in a real sweet spot if he proves to be.

But I'm like you in that I'm not using his numbers from last season as his norm. Those weren't his normal numbers, that wasn't a normal third line (Taylor Hall) and it wasn't a normal season.

That being said, at times last year he looked noticeably more in command than he ever has. So there's a chance here that it was a stepping-stone season and not merely someone who was the benefactor of circumstance.

THIS season though is where I feel comfortable making that determination. I'm not there yet.

Hey I never said he won, fighting Wilson more than once though shows something imo.

Hope Freddy stopped at every yard sale he drove by this summer to see if he could pick up a couple steps. And watched Sam Bennett's playoff highlights on a loop to see what he could become by picking up the pace.
Cute , .............but give the kid a chance , then see where it goes.........
