It's crazy how much $$ a few points can get you.

Jesper Boqvist 70gp 10g 12a = $775k
Jack McBain 82gp 12g 14a = $1.6m
Trent Frederic 79gp 17g 14a = $2.3m

I know these are different players with different strengths, but I just find it so interesting how a few tap-ins can completely change the financial outlook for their lives. Makes all the hard work worth it.
It's crazy when you consider we're talking about 25-35 point guys and that kind of dough...

I thought about the McBain contract but Frederic also have 3 full NHL seasons under his belt to McBain's one. That helps get that salary a bit higher.

Factor in for Boqvist he wasn't qualified by the Devils. That had a big impact on what he could command this summer. Non-tender guys are often in a beggers-choosers situation and have less options to pick from as far as NHL teams go.

Bahh, I agree with you on most topics here lol but I think Frederic has 1 more gear in him.

What, are you Scrooge? Where's the humbug?

In the event, he has his contract and now it's up to him to deliver.

I hope Charlie's quotes above are accurate. I wish him well.

I imagine Freddy's very strong defensive numbers the previous two years play a part in that on top of that offensive outburst.

You could look at it the other way, McBain showed something his first opportunity while it took Frederic 3 seasons to show full time NHL ability (at a high shooting %).

Personally I'm fine with the contract. The bruins can't afford to walk away from any potential talent (especially with physical upside). That said, I don't think they needed to be scared of the arbitrator. All the mentioned comparables have very middling numbers.

Hope Freddy stopped at every yard sale he drove by this summer to see if he could pick up a couple steps. And watched Sam Bennett's playoff highlights on a loop to see what he could become by picking up the pace.

I'd also argue McBain carved out a legitimate role in the NHL in one season. 2nd among all NHL forwards in hits. He's not getting scratched in the playoffs.

I'm fine with the Frederic deal too. I like that it's two years. I think the number for a 2-year deal is very fair for everyone and keeps a player here when he should be ready to take another step and plenty of opportunity here to grab onto.

He's the 6th highest paid forward on this team now. Can he force his way into the Top 6? If we assume the C's are Zacha and Coyle, there is a wing position up for grabs.

Basically a 2 Y1 and 2.6 Y2 deal. Maybe a couple 100K expensive but assuming the 30-40pt production and hopefully some growth to come it's not that bad. Gotta wonder if Sweeney just told him that he will be shipped off if they needed to pay him / or / Swayman and he decided to stay for the known commodity and the probability he will get prime ice given the crappy depth of the team this coming year.

I wonder how much input Monty had.

Slightly overpaid. At least, the Bruins get another year out of it. The guy needs to work on his shot. Well below average. If only he could put in the same effort every game like he did in that St-Louis game late in the season.

Still wish the Bruins had traded him to the Blues for Barbashev at the deadline instead of acquiring Bertuzzi.

And the 61st most goals in the nhl at even strength

I hope that with Looch back he doesn't have to take on the heaviest weights and thus can focus on becoming the power forward we all hope he can be and become a top 3rd liner.

By current NHL salaries it's a reasonable deal.

Look at what these pitchers make in baseball and a solid outing is 6 inn , and they could be pitching a shutout maybe even a no-hitter and they get pulled . Look at what a 11-12 th man on a NBA team gets ...........I get it for average stiffs like us it is hard to understand , but hockey players over the years have put in the time and work ,and sacrifices by the families good luck to them..........

They can cut bait and move on from him as an rfa too, that’s how we got Geekie and Boqvist.
True, but they wanted a deal rather than having this drag out- and Frederic's agent did right by him in getting him to UFA. At this point, he is either going to continue to develop and be worth a good cash-in contract at UFA, and if so, I am good with the Bruins giving him a good contract. If he stays as is, or regresses, as a UFA he isn't going to command a ton anyway IMO, and could be resigned.

I don’t like that he’s a ufa at the end of this deal.
I feel like you're asking for trouble signing a guy his size/style past 29 anyway, unless he becomes more of a possession guy or moves to C. Wouldn't be surprised if this is his last contract with us tbh, barring a massive step forward these next two years.
