It's really not, especially when we don't even have our kids playing the system in which we play, so that does f*** all to help them for when they come up, hell our ahl team doesn't even really have a system, it's more of a joke, if you're on the cusp of the nhl, you are better of playing against better competition in the nhl on the 4th line, than playing a few extra minutes against ahl talent
because if you know your team is going through a rebuild, and you know this year is going to be a losing season, you dont put that on prospects shoulders. The AHL guys will have another winning season and theyll see more playoff games again and thats infinitely better for their development than getting worked over by opponents in the NHL every night and then shit on by fans because they didnt live up to expectations.

I miss having real conversations about training camp and roster decisions…

I am so mad at the Flyers for taking this away from me. This used to be my favorite time of the season. I loved reading about camp write ups and postulating who might be a player in a few years…that’s all gone now. It’s pointless. I realize I still haven’t gotten past this anger phase, which unfortunately means I still care. Realizing that I still care about this team, despite knowing this perpetual loop they are in isn’t dissipating anytime soon, makes me even more mad. It’s like an abusive relationship, I can’t leave it.

I mean, I like watching the eagles and the Phils, but my sport has been, and always will be hockey. My team is the Flyers. I care so deeply about this team, it makes me infuriated when I think about how this team is managed.

I feel you. I'm not a lifelong diehard fan, but once I start following a team, I'm fine with the ups and downs. I'm well aware you won't be winning every year. Some years you'll get close and be let down. Some, you won't even get close. I'm fine with that. It's part of being a fan.

The last few years of the Flyers are like nothing I've ever experienced. It's like being a Browns fan or the Jets. I'm fine with giving it a go and losing, but when there's little to no hope for the future, it's maddening. It makes it hard to really care.

I’ll try my hand.

Do you think a rebuilding team merrily rebuilding should waive 23 year old Zamula, with 26 career games over 3 seasons, to play Staal and Seeler? How about Allison/Laczynski for Deslauriers/Hathaway? Is this good rebuilding? Going into camp, there is only 1 winnable roster spot for a player 25 and under.

Actually, I'm much happier than two years ago when everything imploded.

Having Gauthier, Michkov and Bonk in the pipeline means 70-80 point seasons are far more tolerable, because help is on the way - Briere isn't starting from ground zero with the 2024 draft.

Right now it's more about filling out the rest of the team, see what role York, Attard, Andrae, Farabee, Tippett, Frost, Cates, Foerster, Brink can play in the future. They have 4 picks in the first 2 rounds of the 2024 draft, that should be 2-3 potential starters (you're gonna miss some).

And with Ersson, Kosolov and the 2023 draft, they have one of the deepest goalie pools out there.

You wanted a rebuild, this is what a rebuild looks like, waiting around for draft picks to arrive.

I still haven't even watched any of these preseason games yet & probably won’t at this point.

This is not remotely what a rebuild looks like. They're doing another Hextall. And uh, two years ago you were just as optimistic. What revisionism.

Rebuilds don't declare themselves to be in Year 2 of 3 when they have zero talent and three prospects.

I was thinking about this last night. How none of what is happening on the ice matters. Play better than a veteran? Tough luck unless you fight enough. Their roster is already set. They've made it clear for years that this is all meaningless.

And I doubt it's winnable.

No one with the ability to fire Briere or Jones--or whoever the f*** is running the team--is going to realize that this is a bad "rebuild." We're 3-5 years away from being 3-5 years away.

I'm super impressed that not only were there no GDTs for the preseason games, I didn't even really see them get mentioned.

The dedication to the apathy is great.

Exactly. The organization is still on the way down. They will hopefully bottom out in about 5 years and then actually start to heal.

It’s sick to me how a decade in we are doing this lol

Superstars enter the league every season. Exciting players that make up a core of a team. Not doing what needs to be done to get that elite core.

Yet as always we are here talking about secondary vanilla trash, and why our average guys can’t bring us to the promise land. Lindros, and Giroux. In what, 30 years? That’s your issue. That.

The arrogance, and stupidity on display by the org - and those that support this ass backwards plan is something alright

They act like the depth is the real core, and guys like Giroux let them down. Not the other way around.

Some ridiculous takes.

Michkov is the elite prospect everyone is clamouring for.
Gauthier is a good shot to be a 1LW or 2C.
A healthy Farabee at 23 should be a first line caliber wing, as is TK at 26.

Tippett, Frost, Cates, Foerster are solid middle six forwards.

York, Andrae, Bonk have a shot at top 4 D-men.

Hart, Errsson, Kosolov, and the two drafted goalies.

The other prospects are bottom six/third pair types until proven otherwise.

Do they need more talent 3-5 years from now? Sure. But not a dozen players, 3-4 top starters will do the trick.

Ah yes so long as everyone hits their ceilings coming out of a development process where that tends not to happen, then all will be well. What can go wrong?

It's like putting the axles into the cinder blocks and thinking the car is driveable around town if you just go easy on the gas.

Just hit 3-4 top starters and also have evey major break already in your system go your way. Easy peasy.
If you can't find 3-4 starters over a 3 year period, with extra draft picks and a lot of cap money, tanking isn't going to work either, you'll just end up drafting JVR and Patrick again!

time for him to produce.

all what you typed is in a perfect world. A lot of what you wrote will not happen.

He HAS produced, 42nd in pp/60 at 5x5 from age 19-21. That's first line production.
Last season was marred by his neck surgery and inability to work out over the summer.
I expect a breakout season this year.

39 points is a career high. That isnt producing much if he is your one of your top wingers. he gets a little pass last season no doubt

what do you expect from him points wise?
