I'm good with Brink starting in the AHL. That hip surgery he had was the same one that Giroux, Getzlaf, Gostisbehere, Coburn, etc...all had and it's one that takes a minimum of year after the surgery heals to get everything back to normal and feeling good.

When Atkinson gets traded closer to the deadline, Brink should be firing on all cylinders and that's when you bring him up. Do I like the idea of Brink playing for Puckhead in Lehigh Valley? No. But I like that he'll get his legs back under him and he should be able to dominate from the get go. Sometimes that's more important than playing 10 to 11 minutes a night with the Deslauriers and the Hathaways of the world.
I agree with the logic of your narrative, BCF, but it is still a narrative. And this is the slippery slope that the Flyers FO happily toboggans annually. They cannot truly make roster spots competitive if they are pre-rationalizing sending prospects down, especially if waiver status is a prime determinant.

They'll move out players as young players show they're ready to start.
But BJM is right, RIGHT NOW, most of those prospects are marginal.

xGFrel: Lycksell -13.70 (8g), Lemieux -7.34 (18g), Laczynski -7.31 (31g), MacEwen -3.31, Deslauriers -3.12, Brown -3.03, For the bottom six you'd expect this to be negative (relative to your better forwards) but how negative?

Lycksell - had a good AHL season, but showed nothing in his cameo, he has no outstanding feature that jumps out at you. Kind of guy who could use more AHL time.

Brink - needs to get to 100% after hip surgery and keep working on his skating and getting comfortable with pro size and speed - when he's ready, it'll be obvious.

Laczynski - dinged up and was horrible (worse than Deslauriers) last season.

Desnoyers - good AHL season, mentally NHL ready, Listed at 5'10 186 on TC roster. Has a shot at a 4th line role. But another AHL season won't hurt his development.

Matt Brown - great senior season, has to prove himself at the AHL level

Wisdom - coming off shoulder surgery last year, poor first pro season, has to show he's the hard nosed bottoms six forward he was projected to be

Tuuomaala - needs to show he can embrace the role of fast, feisty energy guy who creates turnovers and turns them into scoring chances - right now hasn't shown top 6 skill.

Ginning - solid stay at home D-man in AHL, is he ready to translate that to the NHL?

Grans - coming off a disappointing 2nd pro season, needs to show he's rebounded

Zamula - has flashed at the NHL level, can he stay healthy?

Attard - size and skill are NHL, defensive IQ ???

Andrae - transition from SHL often takes a few months of AHL play (Lindblom for example) but Briere expects him to start at some point this season

Realistically, Foerster is 3RW, Andrae and Brink go back to LHV and push for a spot by Christmas, Zamula makes the club and rotates in.

Foerster, Andrae and Brink are the only ones you can realistiically project into top 6/top 4 roles, the rest are bottom six, third pair types until proven otherwise.

I do. If they're out by December or January and if Atkinson is scoring at a 20+ goal/50 point pace, there'll be teams lining up. Briere isn't Schmuck. He'll move him.
Well I do not believe the co-GM will want to move him. Bold is TBD

Also not sure teams will be lining up as he has a year left after this one. Flyers will have to retain or take back money to make it work. All depends on how he plays.

Sanheim is 27, making $6.25M a year, at this point in his career, he should be driving his pair, not being carried by a talented partner.

Walker was a solid 3rd pair D-man last season, coming off an ACL injury. A year away, he should be better - and prime TDL trade bait on an expiring contract.

Peterson is a salary dump but an interesting reclamation project at goalie, got the big contract b/c he looked like a comer, then fell apart. If he could rebound at 29, might be a market for him as a backup goalie - but that second year will make him hard to move. Probably is going to be exiled to LHV. But a good showing could allow them to dump him next summer.

It’s worth the effort to try to find a different partner for TS. Risto is a ball and chain for Sanheim to carry. The issue then is if Sanheim clicks with XXXX, who will pair decently with Risto. It gets complicated
Sanheim did not look good on the right side with Provorov.
He had good metrics but bad results (they leaked goals) with Myers.
Played his best hockey with Braun.

Not looking good while being paired with Provorov is no crime. He never tried to work with his partner after Niskanen left the club. Same with being paired with Myers. God knows what Myers was thinking/doing on the ice most of the time. Braun worked because he was a sensible partner who worked as a pair out there.
I can see Sanheim succeeding with York, Walker or Staal. These three guys get it that a defenseman is not alone on the back end. That still creates the issue of if Sanheim isn’t pairing with Ristolainen, who will without it being a disaster?

there will be no market for a 5 million a year backup. good showing or not.

Why is this a thing?

miss the days when fighting in camp was business as usual.

Sanheim does drive his pairs. He's never once in his career had a talented partner. How do you dream this stuff up?

It's a thing because the team has made it abundantly clear that they value fighting over all else. So if you want to make a team and be in good with the coach, you have to fight. That matters more than play. This is a badly run team, and this process will result in the worst possible roster configuration.

One of my favs as well. Not a weak song on the album. Love playing this stuff. Problem: there aren't any girls who can front this work and do it justice. Just cheap imitations. Sam Houston Andrew was an under appreciated guitarist as well. His arrangement and playing on Summertime is pure gold.
