myers wasn't talented?

Talented, but raw and requiring carrying, especially after the Flyers had Gordon develop him into nothing more than an aimless puck-flinger. Sanheim has never been the passenger on his line. He had to start his career by dragging MacDonald around nightly.

The vaunted pairing with Risto was at its most effective when they said "f*** it" and had Risto camp at the crease and told Sanheim to play both sides.

Are you well? Janis, Linda Ronstadt, Tina Turner for starters. What's happening today? Taylor Swift. Please.
Not the power house that Janis was.
Ronstadt was better on the ballads than outright belting.

Same way the only rival Aretha Franklin had was Etta James. Both can give you chills.
Adele has the power house voice but signs a different style.
Singers like Marah Carey and Whitney Houston had no soul in their singing, over sang everything without a feel for the song.

Sanheim at RHD for now, York at LHD.

Problem is if you play your two best puck moving D-men together, who do you put on the 2nd and 3rd pairs? This would open up a spot for Andrae out of camp, since he's the best puck mover left, and maybe Zamula.

York - Sanheim
Zamula - RIsto
Andrae - Walker
Seeler/Staal

The Sanheim move is an experiment, if Sanheim isn't comfortable there, he'll move back to LHD. York prefers LHD, but has shown he can handle RHD. Even with Bonk on board, another RHD is probably in their near future.

funny as hell. Better chance of seeing God. There is no way you actually believe this lineup could happen.

Andrae will not be on the opening night roster unless a slew of injuries.

why wouldn't a lefty prefer the right side, gives more shooting opportunities and a better view of the offensive zone IMO :dunno:

Because in the defensive zone everything that they've been trained to do is opposite
It's a bit like offensive tackles in football, some can play both sides without a hitch, some need time to adjust, some can't do it.

I think Torts will use training camp to evaluate York and Sanheim in terms of how best to use them, and that will dictate the defensive pairs. He also has to evaluate whether Andrae is NHL ready, or needs a few months at LHV (Swedish players often need a little time to adjust to the NA game). Zamula would be the other candidate as a puck moving D-man, though he's not as talented as the other three.

Walker at RHD is more of an offensive D-man that you'd expect from a 3rd pair guy. Mobile D-man you could pair with Seeler on the third pair or even higher up. Finished very strong last season as he regained confidence in his surgically repaired knee.

wonder why they didn't try Travis at right d last year, being it a rebuilding year.

It’s easier to make plays exiting the defense zone when stick is often positioned going towards the boards. Obviously the more talented/skilled guys can manage that where others cannot.

He played 136 minutes on Provorov's right side. the year before, 157 minutes.
Wasn't a good combo.
so yet they want to try it again? Why didnt the coach try it with another partner besides Ivan?

to try to move Sanheim now when he has played the left side for x amount of years reeks of desperation.

It is already clear they want to move him. Guess trying to raise his value!!!

They're not moving him for a while, Sanheim has stated he wants to stay in Philly and there are zero rumors his agent is trying to figure out how to get him out of town - so the NTC stands.

TC is when you try different combos, see who's comfortable with whom and in what role.
This is why I like the move to more scrimmages and less pure practice, and why Torts is pushing these guys in scrimmages, to see how they perform under quasi-game conditions.

One reason he wants that fourth line out there with a physical forecheck is you want to see how a young D-man reacts with a player breathing down his neck - anyone with a modicum of talent can make a stick to stick pass with lots of ice room and time - but do you panic when someone is bearing down on you and make bad turnovers?

There isn't a single thing Tortorella could do that you wouldn't love

they flat out tried to move in every way shape or form. Reports were Briere couldn't give him away. He is part of this losing core no wonder he wants to stay. No pressure and not a care in the world playing for the flyers these days. A sad pattern.

Well wouldn't a rebuilding season also be where you try different things to get a jump on next year?

I'm good with Brink starting in the AHL. That hip surgery he had was the same one that Giroux, Getzlaf, Gostisbehere, Coburn, etc...all had and it's one that takes a minimum of year after the surgery heals to get everything back to normal and feeling good.

When Atkinson gets traded closer to the deadline, Brink should be firing on all cylinders and that's when you bring him up. Do I like the idea of Brink playing for Puckhead in Lehigh Valley? No. But I like that he'll get his legs back under him and he should be able to dominate from the get go. Sometimes that's more important than playing 10 to 11 minutes a night with the Deslauriers and the Hathaways of the world.

Yes 34 year old, just back from surgery, Atkinson will be traded this year with a year left on his contract. Yes.
