Isles 4th line comes in at around $9m. Our 4th line comes in at $2+m. You get what you pay for, unfortunately for us not the case for M & M in the playoffs.

The Islanders also have great balance throughout their line-up.

Can you imagine how many people would be losing their minds having Leo Komarov on the top line? He's playing with Barzal right now. If he was on the same line as Matthews, 90% of people on here would be trashing Keefe for his line-up. But they're winning, so it doesn't matter.

If the Leafs entered next season with the following; how would you feel?

Coleman - Matthews - Marner
Bunting/Galchenyuk - Tavares - Nylander
Goodrow - Zacha - Mikheyev
Anderson - Kuraly - Spezza
Brooks

Rielly - Brodie
Muzzin - Holl
Sandin - Bogosian
Hutton

Campbell
Raanta

Thats probably about as best case scenario as it gets.

Only real glaring holes are Bunting/Galchenyuk in the top 6, but their replacement can be gotten around the deadline and Raanta who is often injured, so he may not bring the reliability that would be good to have behind Campbell.

Pretty bad.

Idea of adding someone like Coleman is to make us a deeper team.

Bunting/Galchenyuk are massive wild cards. Generally speaking, it's the same top 6 that has failed many playoffs in a row.

Soup has 0 pts in 14 playoff games.

I like Kuraly but don't know what Joey Anderson is.

The D is the same which means no good PP QB

Raanta is always hurt.

Basically you've brought back a lot of the same losers with a loser mentality, I would check out for the season because they are not getting past the 1st round or may not even make the playoffs because our division is pretty damn tough.

I’d be happy with that, though I think that might end up over the cap.

I think we would need to at least give Robertson a shot in the top-6 for cap reasons.

Yes. I’m thinking like a 4th or 5th.
For reference, Carolina got a 5th for Joel Edmundson's rights last year, so a 4th or 5th is probably a reasonable guess on Hyman's rights. No two years are alike and this one is affected by the expansion draft, but Hyman is a more valuable asset (IMO) than Edmundson.

what is Hamilton’s deal? What’s he looking for ? Petro left over SB. Is it the same for Hamilton?

I think Robertson is pretty comfortably going to be on the team.

No real solid information out there. There are "rumors" that the Canes are closer to a Krug deal and Hamilton wants a Petro deal. So our best guess is the Canes are offering $7-$7.5 and Hamilton wants $8-$8.5M+ and maybe more term than the Canes want to give. The gap could be larger if Canes are on the low end of that range and Hamilton is on the upper end.

Remove that player and add a heartbeat and I am sure most people would feel better

Hamilton strikes me as a Dubas' type D man. I'd love to have him with the Leafs but problem is, the depth forwards need the most attention in terms of cap allocation this off season.

Hamilton should get around an 8x8 this off-season. Would be a bit higher in the pre-covid time

Hamilton is a good player, but given the money needed it'll would only further cluster the cap allocation to a fairly small group.

The upside with this kind of move is we’ve never made this kind of significant investment on defense and his shot from the point, wing span and transition game will change the look of the team. Like if you think Justin Holl is impactful, wait till you have a 6’6” defenseman who can play. Also frees up Muzzin or Rielly to be moved out for futures as a cap in cap out move.

I’d go up to about $8 million on Hamilton but hopefully somewhere around $7.5 million.

But Hamilton seems like a big time rover. I'm not sure those types of guys age well.

The fact that Carolina management is willing to walk away is a big indicator what the smart move is with him.

That lineup leaves us with 1M in cap space.

Imagine the amount of league minimum guys that the Leafs will have to sign if they hand out 8mill to Hamilton. Can't wait to have Jimmy Vesey back on the 4th line in and out of the line-up.

Hamilton is absolutely the wrong target for the Leafs.

The roster construction for the Leafs has been terrible in terms of contracts.

I would much rather have the 3 contracts of Jake McCabe, Alec Martinez and Brandon Montour than one contract to Dougie Hamilton.

I wouldn't be sure that Rielly out, Hamilton in is that much of a change. Particularly if you're adding $3m for one player.
