Probably just a coincidence that the Leafs PP was historically inept and gave up about as many short handed goals as they scored PP goals.

I’m sure they must have led the league in “expected goals” and “high danger chances” on the PP though.
I'm sure you've done your research into "games played" or "actual time on ice during the power play". Go look at the Leafs PP before and after Sandin arrived.

There will be a lot more #4/5 D men available though from teams. Guys like Holl or Dermott probably won't stand out as much as we think.

Seattle also has a bunch of stats people in their front office and Kerfoots always had attractive underlying analytics.

Though obviously it's all still speculation at this point
Holl is a spare part but Dermott is only 24 and been under appreciated and under utilized by his current club for 2 years. I haven’t seen everyone’s exposed players but I have a hard time believing Dermott isn’t one of the better options if exposed.

Why would Seattle use stats to build their team when they just saw the model with Vegas?

Vegas 100% uses advanced stats pretty heavily.

All teams use stats as supplemental information in the video room/advanced scouting etc but McPhee had a philosophy about team building and much of what they valued didn’t show up in numbers; high character, versatile players that can star in their roles.

Teams that win take this approach, but it’s more impressive when someone does it with everyone’s scraps.

The idea of data driven decisions is to find value in players that nobody else sees. Nobody on Vegas was a surprise. The effectiveness of the group was greater than we expected but opportunities changed and they picked guys who could take advantage of it.

That’s good old school scouting.

There are a lot of good d-men available, that are more proven against better competition than Dermott.

Per Chris Johnston, Alex Kerfoot is the player he's heard, that if we leave exposed, Seattle will take.

Which makes sense, because the quality of center options available to Seattle is dogshit

Lets try giving the kid more then 9 NHL regular games and 5 playoff games before we throw him away.
He will be the first guy criticizing Dubas if he traded him and he became good. Good thing we know that user isn't accurate on his description.

No doubt, Dermott has been buried on the left side for most of his time.

I’m higher on him than most but I see a top 4 who would be a great buy-low for them. Like Vegas, I think they’ll target players who could elevate or have breakouts with more opportunities. I think Dermott will/would.

Kerfoot isn’t a bad player but a lot of coaches would probably tell you he isn’t a very good centreman.

Dubas should be doing cartwheels if Seattle takes Kerfoot and his cap hit. It will be another buyers' market this UFA season for teams with cap space.

Anyone watching the Bruins/Islanders series? Want to be successful in the playoffs? That’s how you do it, Leafs would be destroyed by either team physically. No Superstar D man on either team either, Leafs need to trade 2 of AM, WN, MM and improve team depth in all areas. They don’t need fancy players they players that want to win, or as Star Kiss tuna used to say “we don’t need tuna with good taste, we need tuna that tastes good.”

So, essentially, here's the list of players Chris Johnston could be thinking of - I left off guys like P.Kane and T.Seguin that technically fit the bill, but unrealistic for a number of reasons. Left off guys like Dvorak and Schmatlz, because they aren't big names that would have people excited. So there are other players in those categories not listed (I nearly left some off of this list)
John Gibson (ANA) - Don't think so
Clayton Keller (ARI) - Hasn't lived up to contract expectations, unlikely
Jakob Chychrun (ARI) - Not sure why ARI would move him, but ????
Timo Meier (SJS) - Seems like a solid candidate
Alex Debrincat (CHI) - Don't think so
Cam Atkinson (CBJ) - Don't think so
Oliver Bjorkstrand (CBJ) - Maybe?
Radek Faksa (DAL) - Not really a big name or that exciting
Roope Hintz (DAL) - Not sure why DAL would move him
Esa Lindell (DAL) - ^^^^
Dylan Larkin (DET) - Could move him for similar reasons as Mantha, so maybe
Damon Severson (NJD) - Maybe?
Chris Kreider (NYR) - Fits all the criteria, but not sure I see it happening
Travis Konecny (PHI) - This one makes the most sense
Ivan Provorov (PHI) - No shot

So essentially, my top 5 shortlist, in order of likeliness
Travis Konecny
Dylan Larkin
Timo Meier
Chris Kreider
Jakob Chychrun

None of those truly excite me. There are players available in free agency who provide us what we need.

Brock McGinn, Blake Coleman, Barclay Goodrow, Mike Hoffman, Ian Cole, Stephen Johns, Luke Glendening.

I still think Jones is a strong Dman, although some here are suggesting he is no longer the player he once was.
Ideally, Marner and Holl for Jones and Jenner.
Then trade Reilly to Nucks for Miller.
Kerfoot gone to Seattle
Resign Nick, Hyman, Spezza and Bogo.

Miller-AM-Hyman
Nick-JT-Jenner
Gally-Engvall-Willy
Soup-Brooks-Spezza

Muzzin-Jones
Dermott-TJ
Sandin-Bogo

Campbell
Dave
marner is not being traded its very clear lol

Also, looked through different goalies, as CJ mentions he believes we'll bring in our second goalie via trade;

I really only saw three options;

- Jonas Korpisalo (CBJ) - Commit to Elvis as starter, and bring up Kivlenieks
- Alex Georgiev (NYR) - Bring in Veteran backup behind Shesterkin
- Casey DeSmith (PIT) - Will need to upgrade/bring in a better tandem to play in front/with Jarry.

Rather sign Driedger than spend more assets because this team can't develop a goalie.

Word is that Seattle is taking Driedger. I am not against getting Raanta or Halak, or another goalie in free agency either.

I don't think someone like DeSmith would be that costly. Perhaps someone like Joey Anderson going the other way. As for Georgiev, I think the Ranges need a LD, so maybe someone like Dermott if Seattle indeed takes Kerfoot?

No clue what a Korpisalo trade could look like though.

He was good with the Pens and is making $700K, Seriously can he be worse than Engval and Soup at their cap hits ??

My ideal situation is that Mikheyev - Engvall - Spezza works out to be our fourth line, which means an improved third line.

If we can deal Engvall for a pick to someone, and bring in Kuraly or Jankowski to be the 4C for under 1M, I'd take it.

I'd try to sign Ullmark , he's played well behind a crap Buffalo team .

and if Kerfoot is so valuable as a C as i keep reading why are some so desperate for Seattle to take him , lol

Can we please just add Luke Glendening his year? The guy is great on the PK and faceoffs. We need that element if we lose Hyman and even if we don't, I just want to continually improve our special teams.

Like Glendening and someone like Brock McGinn and Barclay Goodrow add the size and toughness we need.
