Trades & Free Agency Thread - Too Soon Off-Season Edition

The Chris Johnston quotes were very interesting. The only guys outside of the top 4 forwards who are probably locks to be back are Brodie and Campbell (and probably Spezza and Bogo resigned).

The team is going to have to get really creative with trades to open up as much salary as possible. Could potentially mean Rielly gets moved (but depends really on the return there).

Folingo potentially replacing Hyman for a season would be very interesting if he'd sign for that aav.

I think we have to make a more proactive decision here and move on from Muzzin and not Rielly. Rielly is younger and factors in more as a core player and the only reason why he's on the table is his awkward contract situation. Muzzin forms a more stable 2nd pair, but if we can move him and then buy back something like Hamilton in free agency we will be better off for it with a revamped blueline.

Well, Konecny is close to being a point-per-game nasty rat of player. That's pretty close to top-5.

Konecny would be a great addition but not at the cost of a Mitch Marner, whom I would be looking at something like Jack Eichel as the return. Eichel is the better athlete with better tools but obviously hasn't been brought up in a good environment and could use a new NHL home.

Can we just get some players who play with intensity for the post-season? Thornton, Simmonds, and Engvall brought nothing to the bottom half of the line-up. We could have replaced them with almost any players in the league and gotten more meaningful minutes.

That's around 3.5 million to sign a couple 4th/3rd liners. They don't even need to be guys who put up points (since these guys certainly didn't do that), just go out there and bring some emotion to the team.

Yes.

It's a bit late for that now but hopefully Dubas can rectify his mistake moving forward. It's highly unlikely he moves any of the big four, so it's likely tinkering around the edges and then another run at things next year. We need to go bargain hunting for guys who can get you 25 points and play hard.

I also wouldn't mind seeing Keefe spread out the forwards a bit more: Marner-Matthews, Tavares-Hyman, Kefoot-Nylander. You can plug anyone onto those lines and you'll still get offense.
