Your ideal situation has a 4th line without a real centre?

I think that will depend on what the Leafs do with the 3C role this off season. If they via free agency or trade they get a guy who can handle the tough defensive zone times I don't mind Spezza as 4C as much: I thought the 4th line looked fine in the playoffs

You literally claimed teams like Vegas weren't using analytics in player evaluation..... What do you think the coaches and GM are doing with the information their stats guys provide them with?

This is going around in circles
They’ll take all data available to have in front of them when scouting or watching video. That isn’t using the numbers to tell you who is good or bad. This is a qualified individual who can break down the game (you clearly cannot) with information to reference dependant on his specific focus at the time.

You’re trying to twist my words again. Well done, Mr. Moderator.

I think we need two good faceoff guys to play on the PK units. Having Spezza roll out there to take the draw and go to the bench is a liability we should want to avoid.

In a perfect world, you've got multiple faceoff guys on every line. Having Spezza as a backup is excellent, but I'd want the centre to be able to take draws too. That allows the first guy to cheat like crazy. Most of the time, the linesmen just drop the puck, but on the rare occasion they kick you out, we have another good guy coming in. If you have a lefty and righty on the same line, you can always have guys taking draws on their strong side.

No competent NHL coach or GM needs a bunch of statistics to know that Marner played like trash in the playoffs this year.

Anyone who attempts to cherry pick statistics to convince themselves that Marner had a great series against Montreal should not even be discussing hockey let alone running an NHL team.

Targets for me would look something like:

Big Fish:

Dougie Hamilton (contingent on moving Rielly or Muzzin to free cap space).
Taylor Hall (using money saved from not re-signing Hyman and Andersen).
Jack Eichel (basically a Marner for Eichel 1 for 1).

Veteran Quota:

Jeff Carter
Corey Perry
Kyle Palmieri
Nick Foligno (re-sign him for the Hyman AAV).
Ryan Getzlaf
Tyler Bozak

Goalie:

Joonas Korpisalo
Chris Drieger

Other:

Sam Bennett
Ryan Murray
Adam Larsson
David Savard

A lot of those names definitely would be good to look into. I'd add Granlund, who could be probably be signed for a pretty reasonable price and could fit on either of the top two lines.

Barclay Goodrow could also be worth looking into as a cheap 4th/3rd line guy.
