We have about half the league, 15 teams, with scouts on hand for #CBJ/Red Wings in Detroit.Florida has 3 scouts here including AGM Gregory Campbell. The others: TB, NSH, CAL, CHI (2), NYI, NYR, PHI, SJS, ANA, BOS, LAK, EDM, MTL, STL.
* do panthers want tarasenko back for peanuts with partial retention , as no doubt detroit would like to get rid of his cap hit next season

If there is any wavering from Rantenen then Carolina has to try to recoup as much as possible in a trade for a rental.

I think I may have a solution.
A win, win trade for both teams, for different reasons and outcomes but good for both.

To Carolina, Boeser, Pettersson and a 2nd pick. They get some scoring in Boeser, they get the potential of Pettersson playing better in another city AND the longer term contract at less than they would have had to pay Rantenen, they get younger players and the 2nd round pick.

To Vancouver Rantenen, they get the chaos of the Pettersson signing away from the market and management can work on other things needed. They solve the Boeser resigning issue. They remove another soured core player. The 2nd round pick would not be impactful for a few years.

Vancouver can then retain 50% of the remainder or Rantenen's contract and trade him BACK to Colorado.

To Colorado, Rantenen at 2.35 mil cap hit and another 2nd or 3rd rnd pick or a roster player and they get the band back together with Rantenen likely to sign for a little less. "You don't know what you have until it is gone"

To Vancouver, Necas and Drury, while not necessarily the best NHL top #1 and #2 centers in the league they are younger, faster and scoring as much.

Vancouver market is calmed and the Colorado market and players are pleased.

I get the sense that you're a Canucks fan.

I don't like it for anyone other than Vancouver.

Someone who knows the CBA please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe Rantanen can be traded back to Colorado this year

Yes a Canuck fan. But the suggestion is better than Carolina getting nothing close in return for what they paid or nothing at all.

I am not sure, I think they can, I think I remember this happening before. Team's can get back players they waive, that are picked up and then traded back.
This might be seen as an extended 4 way trade. Colorado to Chicago to Carolina to Vancouver to Colorado.

I am pretty sure the NHLPA might have something to say about it but they would all be legit hockey trades.

We didn't pay anything except one year of control on two guys who weren't re-signing with us and had requested trades previously. Our FO is comfortable with this ending up with us getting nothing but a lot of cap space to spend in the offseason and a rental to contribute in the playoffs. They're listening because they listen on everything always...but there's no pressure to recoup value there or take on another team's headaches.

Particularly, I hope we have nothing to do with Pettersson. We could have had Pettersson. We dodged that mistake twice...he took a quick offer to avoid coming to Carolina (clearly does not want to be here), then Tulsky came to his senses and avoided paying for Vancouver's mistake giving him $11M+ to get outperformed by Aho and sulk because he doesn't want to be here.

We're good, thanks.

Why is carolina getting more than they paid for Rantanen?

in another thread i saw nyi and buffalo fans mention dobson and power . i only watch detroit so have no serious opinion on them besides their draft year scouting reports . but i would say that detroit might be interested in one of them using their 2025 1st as part of trade , this would improve detroit today and long term so doesnt upset their rebuild . and power played locally at u of m , so would know larkin and others

They wouldn't be. My understandings is that Carolina wanted a star level player of NHL stature. Pettersson was that before Tocchet.
Losing Necas and Drury can't help them, it doesn't destroy them but isn't helpful

IF Pettersson did rebound and they had Boeser and signed him they have both for around what they paid for Rantenen alone, close to it but if not then they had Boeser as a rental to score PP goals. He isn't actually too bad in the playoffs the two years I have seen him.
