He's not even on the radar for the leafs if we are talking about bringing back Bogo for the 3RHD role next year

Holl will be here next year again at the 2RHD.

Lilijgren will be in his D+5 and won't be a NHL player again. Either we need to clear space and give him the 3RHD spot or he should be moved while he is still valuable and can help bring a piece the team needs.

4 years in the AHL is more than enough
Not neccessarily.

If Dermott chooses not to extend before the expansion draft then we need to expose Holl. If he gets taken I strap Liljegren to Muzzin for the first 30-40 games next year and see what happens.

Signing Bogosian doesn't neccessarily mean Liljegren won't play either. If it wasn't for the cap being a problem (Liljegrens AAV was over $1M) he would have been given a lot more looks down the stretch and probably the same opportunity that Sandin did to earn a job before the playoffs.

If he took advantage and showed he should stay in the lineup I think Keefe would have considered it.

If Holl is back I only re-sign Bogo if he's okay with being the 7 guy to start.

He is an expendable asset as we look to contend. Not to mention Arizona probably doesnt even do that deal. Garland is awesome.
Yea except the defense is getting older and Marner/Nylander/Matthews are all 25 and younger.

Sandin and Liljegren are two internally developed potential top 4 guys that should be cheap and effective players for the next few seasons.

They fit the contending window and can keep it open much longer if they can handle it. I'd be mucb more inclined to move a longer term project like Niemela if we need to move somebody.

Well see. I just don't see anyway Holl isn't brought back. He's one of Dubas and Keefes favorites.

Bogo vs Lilijgren for the 3RHD I'd like to see lilijgren come and take that spot and Bogo be a great #7 who can play if lilijgren gets hurt or sucks but.Bogo played at a pretty high level in the season so they might not want to have him sit regularly

Last year of Lilijgrens ELC next year. If he gets to establish himself as an NHL player we probably keep him in the long term plans. If he can't keep a regular job than he becomes an asset you shop and see if anyone has the patience to wait for him to potentially become an impact player

I don't mind that Flyers deal, but I'd really like to either get Myers and/or shed salary if we trade Marner, even if that's unlikely scenario.

Something like, Konecny+Myers for Marner+Holl.

This would allow us room to add a Coleman/Goodrow/Cizikas as well.
Philip Myers is a D man I’ve liked since Philly signed him.

He was excellent for the first half of the season, and terrible for the second half and play-offs. Just as I was coming around on him being a real top-4 defensemen, he started to show he wasn't.

The problem though, is that we don't really have the cap space to upgrade that position. We're not going to find a real top-4 defenseman for 2 million.

Holl is cheap enough to not be problem unless there's a solution. Upgrading our fourth best defenseman is far enough down the docket that I doubt we'll ever get around to it.

Changes to management, coaching and the core all must come first, otherwise we're spinning our tires.

I still think Jones is a strong Dman, although some here are suggesting he is no longer the player he once was.
Ideally, Marner and Holl for Jones and Jenner.
Then trade Reilly to Nucks for Miller.
Kerfoot gone to Seattle
Resign Nick, Hyman, Spezza and Bogo.

Miller-AM-Hyman
Nick-JT-Jenner
Gally-Engvall-Willy
Soup-Brooks-Spezza

Muzzin-Jones
Dermott-TJ
Sandin-Bogo

Campbell
Dave

I also can see Philadelphia as a landing spot for Mitch Marner.

They have some good forwards, some good future assets as well, and I think they are going to look to make a splash.

Konecny has long been a player people here have coveted, for good reason. Our powerplay really hasn't been the same since we lost JVR as a net front guy. They have the 14th overall pick, and so on and so forth.

So follow along with me here;

- You trade M.Marner to the Flyers for T.Konecny, J.van Riemsdyk, L.Hogberg, and 14th Overall Pick. Might seem like a bit much, but the Leafs taking back JVR's 2 years and 14 million dollars remaining, sorta off sets any contract concerns weighing down Marner's value. What this trade does - provide the Leafs with a 2 for 1 scenario, while also picking up a decent prospect (with Dermott leaving, and Sandin fully graduating, good to keep the cupboard stockpiled), and gives us a chance to be in the first round again for this draft. Perhaps we swing for the fences with a Aatu Raty, who has fallen down the rankings due to a not so great production year (I personally still think the high end potential is there).

- CJ seems to think Zach Hyman will get offered 6M (or more) by other teams if he makes it to free agency. I think unfortunately, we need to take a similar strategy, in spreading that into multiple players, instead of 1.

- So, in free agency, I look to sign two players, 1 in the 3.25-3.5 range, and another in the 1.5-2M range. For the purpose of this discussion, I go after Blake Coleman and Barclay Goodrow, but, there's a couple different options there that can be had.

- Next, a bit of internal housekeeping, I keep Spezza for another year 750K and Bogosian for another year at 1.5M. I also bring back Calle Rosen, and not Martin Marincin, at 750K, to be our 7th d-man. With Liljegren acting as the 8th D, while playing with the Marlies.

- Now, it's time to find a tandem goalie. I've budgeted 2-2.5M (or less) for this spot. I think there are a couple options here, but I think Antti Raanta on a 1 year deal makes sense for both sides. Raanta has good fancy numbers, and despite his somewhat weak year, it was a small sample, but I think Raanta will need to take a 1 year deal somewhere to rebuild some value.

- This doesn't really matter, but I offer Jack Campbell a 3 year extension worth a total of 9 million dollars on day 1 of free agency as well.

- Finally, I move Engvall to a team for a 4th/5th rounder, and Sign Sean Kuraly, or a similar 4th line center, for 900K.

My 2021-22 lineup:

Blake Coleman - Auston Matthews - William Nylander
Barclay Goodrow - John Tavares - Travis Konecny
James van Riemsdyk - Alex Kerfoot - Ilya Mikheyev
Joey Anderson/Nick Robertson - Sean Kuraly - Jason Spezza
Adam Brooks

Jake Muzzin - Justin Holl
Morgan Rielly - TJ Brodie
Rasmus Sandin - Zach Bogosian
Calle Rosen

Jack Campbell
Antti Raanta
-

this lineup is perfect

Coleman would be an unreal add, just wish he had more experience playing Center.

Too much old of an old school player. We all know we are gonna sign Michael Granlund to a 5 year deal

Soft 5'10 very average at everything

The Chris Johnston quotes were very interesting. The only guys outside of the top 4 forwards who are probably locks to be back are Brodie and Campbell (and probably Spezza and Bogo resigned).

The team is going to have to get really creative with trades to open up as much salary as possible. Could potentially mean Rielly gets moved (but depends really on the return there).

Folingo potentially replacing Hyman for a season would be very interesting if he'd sign for that aav.

the biggest to me was the prediction

“the leafs are going to add a big name big potential player from an American team that didn’t make the playoffs with years left on the contract”.

no idea if that means signed for multiple years or under control?

American teams that didn’t make it are.

anaheim. Detroit. Jersey. Dallas. Columbus. La. Sanjose. Arizona buffalo. Rangers. Philly Chicago.

who would that be?

Foligno replacing Hyman would be an epic fail.

They'd need to aim MUCH higher than that.

Definitely. Lots of speculation to be had there. Konecny comes to mind, he seems like he's been on the outs with Philly too

Rasmus Sandin doesn’t have a hope in hell of ever being a top 4 defenceman. I can assure you of that. Likely not even a top 6 defenceman.

Way too slow, way too soft and way too small.

NOW is the time to trade him because the more he play the more he’s going to be exposed - - just as he was in the playoffs.

How do people feel about adin hill? Could be a goalie of the future for cheap. Arizona can protect defense.

dermott or holl?
