I’m glad you said “most likely” to acknowledge you don’t know what you’re talking about.

I was trying to be nice.

But let be clear here. I think anyone who talks about intangibles is a moron.

There are options on the market but Dubas needs to be bold. Dump salary. Rielly is overrated. Prioritize a dman that can run the PP. Either via trade or free agency.

I really wish Dubas would have the balls to trade Rielly with a year left on his cheap contract and get good value for him and then let someone else give him his pay raise. After all these years we know what kind of player he is and its better try and move him now than keep him.

I honestly cannot trust Dubas with any trades involving Marner and Reilly.
Not when they actually thought Simmonds, Thornton, Nash and Foligno were enough to make us a contender.
I just have zero faith in our management team anymore. There is simply not enough money to provide an effective and balanced roster with four forwards eating up all of our cap space.

If we lost Kerfoot, what about Paul Stastny as a 3C? Obviously a bit older than we'd like and not sure about the salary he'll be looking for, but he always puts up solid numbers in playoffs.

Giving Hyman $6M would be a disaster later into that contract. He might be worth it for one year.
$4.25 m per for hymy of bye bye ,,,a 20/20/40p guy with only 13p in 32POgp is a HUGE YAWN , oh and those bland numbers are from riding shotgun to either JT or Matty.

The playoff numbers don't scare me as much as him having a serious leg injury going into the playoffs several years in a row now. If he's not the first guy onto pucks and loses leg strength to pin guys against the boards, what is he doing?

Leafs because jones is not signed long term and his long term contract will be more than william's. If it's a tightrope to fit the big four forwards, then it will be downright impossible to manage the cap with seth's additional contract.

I didn't make my point clear. It isn't who I would trade for either.
Just an example that if an offer comes up for Willy or MM that makes sense, management would move either guy.

I think Coleman could produce Hyman number riding shotgun with Matthews and Marner.

Coleman won't see a 5 at the start of his contract.

The only players on 'discounts' are those who breakout after signing their contracts or those who live in tax free states.
oh IDK about that,,Aho at 8.5m,,,Rantanen at 9.25m,,,, look like discounts to me
Rantanen 9.25
Aho,,,,8.5
Kyle Connor 7.1m
Guentzel 6m

4 names off the top of my head

Brining in Coleman IMO to replace Hyman is a lateral move at best. Coleman should either be our 2LW or ideally on our 3rd line providing excellent depth scoring and play.

On Tampa, unless I'm wrong(could be the case haven't watched them in the playoffs) he plays the 3rd line correct? Kuch, Point, Stamkos, Cirelli, Palat, Gourde are ahead of him

Coleman + Tatar/Similar style player would be excellent guys to replace Engvall + Kerfoot on the 3rd line giving us a 3rd line that can generate chances and produce offense consistently.

If we keep Marner (which is probably the case), and move on from Hyman (looking likely) I would target a player with an excellent shot for that line. Have JT-WN and gally the 2nd line, those 2 as mentioned above + Robertson the 3rd line, then MM+AM + a goal-scoring/heavy shot LW who we get either through UFA as a cheap buy option (people linking Bunting, if he's a goal-scoring winger would be interested) or through trade with guys like Rakell, Garland (major interest in him for me), Tyler Bertuzzi (final year RFA), Buchnevich (RFA again but a guy with high end shooting skill) etc.

As much as I love Zach and know what he can do for a team, we can't afford him at market value. I think his time here is over.

But I for one would like to see as many new faces as possible. Hyman isn't a hard replacement, but he is a glue guy and his role needs to be replaced 100%.

I like the Coleman idea.

Hoping an Anderson/Robertson/Hallander could eventually be an internal replacement.

I still don't think a successful team can be assembled with the cap structure the way it is.

Unless a big ticket item is getting shipped out, I think we're just playing musical chairs to another first round exit. If we get there.

Personally I believe Dubas is afraid to trade Marner, and I think it's solely on the case of keeping Matthews happy. All we've heard was how much these 2 want to play together and how they're best friends etc etc. They don't really seem like team first guys to be honest. Dubas might be afraid that if he trades Marner, well then that means bye bye Matthews at the end of his contract. If that is the case, I'd trade both of them right now because it just shows they care more about themselves then the team.

okay, backup goalies...
I'm thinking a youngish goalie with potential that is still cheap like:
Chris Driedger
or
Laurent Brossoit

anyone else think these would be good targets, and/or we could get them under or about $1 mil for some term?

Cant wait until hyman hyman signs for 5+ then has to move rielly because they need cap space.

Some times you need a new gm to do the tough moves.
Dubas has strong ties to all these players.

Diedger @ 1mil
You only wish

Kapanen got 3.6 here for being a 20 goal guy and 40 point player so I don't expect Hyman to get much more than that especially when he's been playing with Matthews his entire career pretty much. He was on pace for a career year this season but if Dubas lets his agent use that as a way to ask for more than 4 mil then Shanahan or someone has to step in to slap him or something.

The same was said about the relationship between Matthews and Andersen. How they were best friends and it would be crazy to not have them on the same team. But it's pointing that Andersen is likely gone this off-season.

If the Leafs moved on from Marner, you could easily move Nylander back to the top line.
