Zero chance Columbus would give up Jones and Laine for Marner alone.

Foligno doesn't owe anyone anything. He's a free agent.

He owes it to himself and his family to do what's best for them.

Probably the Captain goes back to Columbus, where they have their home. He didn't trade himself to Toronto, after all.

I'm not sure the Leafs would want him back, anyway.

He actually did. Columbus received the same offer from a number of competitors and let Foligno choose where he wanted to go. He chose here.

Wife and kids remained in Columbus, not the best experience with the Leafs - playing through an injury, no chemistry (or no time to build up chemistry - 11 games in total with different linemates), 1st round exit vs. a playoff pretender.

Leafs don't have the cap either even if he were to take less than his current 5.5M AAV (doubt he gets more than 3M). Re-signing Hyman will be more of a priority and they are similar type players.

Yeah, he's not coming back.

I'd trade Marner for Matt Tkachuk straight up. Calgary gets an elite talent, Leafs get a player who will be a better fit in their lineup.

I just don't see them having the guts to make a trade like that unfortunately.

Not many. There’s only so much cap space, Marner’s contract is the only one that moves the needle when it comes to saving on the cap plus making upgrades with his return.

Something people aren’t talking enough about is that Marner is only owed 6m a season for the remainder of his deal. This will be very attractive to a lot of teams, I think Dubas will listen to offers.

I like the ideas here. Not sure if Laine comes with Jones or if Calgary adds a 2nd to Monahan, but I like the idea of acquiring those 2 players.

That's a worse team, facing a better 1st round opponent in 2022.

Not to keep piling on marner but dougie was on spittin chiclets saying that marners dad wanted him out of Toronto when babs put him on the fourth line.

honestly there is probably just too much at this point. He makes too much money. There is too much baggage. He is more than likely gone. Way more so than Matty. That’s a change I would probably make at this point.
