Well, according to Johnston the leafs were unwilling to do the deal midseason. So I'm assuming some roster pieces are involved.

Another way of looking at it would be, they have most of their top 6 and 2 top 4 d-men locked up and $25M to spend to fill out the rest of the lineup. So, most of their important players are still under contract and they have flexibility to fill out the rest of the roster.

Sounds like they're in a great spot, IMO.

I don’t see any UFA’s coming here on the cheap, at least not the one’s worth signing. Everyone wants to win, not enough cap left to ice a competitive team, the players know this, their agents know this.

2nd and 3rd for Ardvisson, that deal looks real nice for the Kings if he can become a 20g/20a player. I thought Arvidsson would have been a good target for the Leafs, esp for that price.

Good caphit, top 6 forward, has term on his contract. The only risky thing is if that Crosscheck really changed the way he played the game, because prior to that he was a 30g goal scorer 3 years in a row.

meh. i wouldnt compare those deals. double retained rentals always go for a premium.

this is comparable to the Kapanen deal last year. we made out a bit better because of Kapanens better contract

Arvidsson is a great add for LA adds a little bit of speed to the mix with having guys like Kopitar, Byfield there going forward. If Kupari and Turcotte reach their potential they will have a nice top 6
