Use the Max Pacioretty trade return as the standard if Rielly gets traded.

Mid 1st or prospect drafted around there + 2nd + NHLer.

Dawson Mercer + Damon Severson + 2021 2nd would be a more realistic ask for an extended Rielly.

EDIT: but don't bother with NJ. The analytics guy for the Devils isn't a huge Rielly fan.

Yea, I don't see NJ giving up the 4th OA pick for a guy like Rielly who is one year away from free agency.

Like you said - his return would be more of a package deal with some pretty solid pieces, but no absolute slam dunk top prospects. Suzuki has worked out really well for the Habs, but as a mid-1st prospect, he could just as easily have turned into a Tlusty, Gauthier, etc calibre NHLer. So we'd be rolling the dice a bit, getting a decent NHL body back, and clearing some capspace.

I'd be all for giving Bunting a chance here. But people need to slow their role on saying he's a top 6. He doesn't play the digging in the corners, big body game that Hyman does. He's nowhere near as naturally talented as Galchenyuk. These comparisons are a little crazy. He seems like a late bloomers who has done well in his limited NHL opportunity. He's someone you'd hope to get some secondary scoring from on the 3rd or 4th line. As of today, his better comparable would be a Kenny Agostino. Which when we signed him we all hoped he could maybe be a compliment to one of the top two lines...and we all know how that two year contract worked out. That's more where Bunting is at. Likely get pencilled onto a 3rd or 4th line somewhere, and then up to him to make good on that. Worth taking a flyer on. But top 6 is silly talk right now for a guy in his mid 20s with 26 NHL games to his name

Do the Leafs really need another smallish player? Dubas has plenty of them in the system already?

Reminds me of the people penciling in Lehtonen in the top 4 lol.

Ive had by issues with Andersen but if he'd agree to a 1 year deal at 2.5-3 mil, it would at least be worth considering
Leaf Nation kills me, everyone’s ready to run FA out of town then the option of having him stay for a pittance of his contract and everyone’s like “that sounds interesting.” FA wasn’t overpaid for a #1 goalie, the problem was he sucks and the team needs better goaltending. FA should not be resigned, period.

With rumors regarding the devils looking at moving the 4th overall pick for a top defenseman, I was thinking something like,

To Toronto-
4th overall pick
Pavel Zacha
Miles Wood

To New Jersey-
Morgan Rielly
Alex Kerfoot

We can then either make the pick or use it in a solid trade.

Zacha then becomes your 3rd line center and an unbelievable one at that.
I would be all over that trade. Love it. I would draft Simon Edvinsson (6-5 D who is gritty and skates well) or Dylan Guenther (RW scorer who drives to the net.... future Marner replacement).

I doubt they'd do it for Rielly alone let alone adding in Zacha and Wood.

I'm okay if he takes a job, but he has to take it and not be given it.

If he is part of the future, put him in an give him a real shot. We are not winning anything this year anyway. Only way this team is going to get better is of they add prospects, not bargain bin players.

The main things you see with the teams that advanced in these playoffs are passion and intensity, you get players who have that on our team and we get out of the first round, until then I'm afraid it'll be the same story year in and year out.
