So according to Pierre Lebrun, Frederik Andersen is interested in signing back in Toronto, and his agent, Claude Lemieux, expressed that to the Leafs on Monday.

This is mostly a nothing report. Of course Freddy would probably be open to staying. However unless he takes a massive pay cut, it won’t happen.

If no one wants them as their starter, then he's taking a massive cut regardless of where he goes. There are few starter jobs available any summer (especially on non-crap teams) and back-ups don't get paid. So if he's taking a big cut anyway, maybe he ends up back in Toronto.

A Campbell-Andersen tandem is not my first choice. (I'd like a goalie that can steal us a playoff game, which I don't think has happened even once in the Matthews era.) But it's not my last choice either. We put together one of our best winning percentages ever with broken Campbell and broken Andersen. If both are healthy and we don't need to overwork either, that's a solid duo.

Except when I'm doing an armchair GM where I bring in a big name goalie, I find myself pencilling in Andersen at 2.5M x 2 pretty often. Let's see where he ends up if anything comes of it.

I'm just glad everyone else is finally on the "Leafs need to get physical" train. I felt like I was on my own island the last 3 years.

Took more 1st rd exits for you guys to finally come around

I think it'll be extremely funny if Dubas tries his best to bring everyone back for next season.

People might have strokes.

If we can't bring in Bogosian, I'd be all for bringing in Hankanpaa.

Honestly, I'd move out Holl. He was so effin soft in the playoffs. Just terrible. Dude was falling all over the ice 24/7

Funny enough I think a lower paid contract and lower expectations (30-35 games instead of 60+) would be the best thing for Andersen's mental game. If his groin is adequately duct taped up, I could see him bouncing back as a 1B and lasting longer in the league than if he took 5+ long-term to be Edmonton's starter.

He's going to sign for 5+ with term somewhere. And that somewhere is going to regret it imo

Any interest in Michael Bunting?

Seems like there is some upside and young enough to build him into a decent bottom 6

I've been reading that name a lot on this board, but have never seen him play. How would you describe his game?

Andersen is too unathletic and out of shape and doesn't have much of a second effort. Kind of the similar shi* were talking about with other leafs.

Campbell was a good change... alot of energy and heart. We have to keep in that direction. Its contagious...will be contagious in other positions as well.

Tampa has to blow up the roster to an extent, how about Killorn? Similar to Hyman but only 2 years left on the contract.

Foegele and Canes wanting to see if they can get him a change of scenery too.
I didn't hear about that. I'd for sure be interested in Foegele and I don't think he would be crazy hard to obtain.

I've wanted Holl off the team ever since this moment.

Watch him just casually go for a change as CBJ is dumping the puck and Foudy is waiting to charge in at the blueline.

How the f*** do you make such a careless mistake in a do or die game?

I wouldn't give up more than a mid-round pick and maybe a prospect for him.

Or I would do Kerfoot + prospect for Foegele + a 2nd.

Killorn and Foegele would be the best options. Foegele is actually a beast on the cycle, I think he wants a bigger role than 4th line though...maybe 3rd line?

Don't think Killorn's trade cost would be very prohibitive. Maybe something like Dermott and/or Engvall?

JT Miller would be outstanding but trade cost could be prohibitive.

Kane another locker room problem and AAV makes it very difficult to fit him in.
Foegle would be a great fit

No idea to be honest. Never seen him play either
But his numbers in AHL and NHL looks decent. Looks like he needs an opportunity

Looks like a maybe a late bloomer but considering we have given Vesey a chance and Boyd, Bunting may be worth a shot
Maybe 1 year show me what you got type of deal at $1.5

With rumors regarding the devils looking at moving the 4th overall pick for a top defenseman, I was thinking something like,

To Toronto-
4th overall pick
Pavel Zacha
Miles Wood

To New Jersey-
Morgan Rielly
Alex Kerfoot

We can then either make the pick or use it in a solid trade.

Zacha then becomes your 3rd line center and an unbelievable one at that.

Use the Max Pacioretty trade return as the standard if Rielly gets traded.

Mid 1st or prospect drafted around there + 2nd + NHLer.

Dawson Mercer + Damon Severson + 2021 2nd would be a more realistic ask for an extended Rielly.

EDIT: but don't bother with NJ. The analytics guy for the Devils isn't a huge Rielly fan.

Agh!

Alright folks, there's a bunch of you who brought up Bunting in these threads. Has anyone actually seen him play and can describe his game?

Sums up his offensive profile. Lives in front of the net, but has a nice shot too. He might be able to be a secondary scoring option on a Marner line, but I would probably put him with Nylander.

He is not too bad in his own end too to the point where he can play on a shutdown line, but I would not call him a defensive specialist.

He's from Scarborough and played for Dubas' Greyhounds. I have liked him for a while (since 2018) as a depth swap but now that he is a UFA, is unproven, and plays a game that would be perfect as the third wheel in the top, he is a great option for the Leafs. He can come at a Verhaeghe price with Verhaeghe upside.

Thanks! We could use a guy that likes to go to the net, especially in the playoffs.

Andersen interested in staying in Toronto

Pierre LeBrun: I don’t know about a discount, but yes, there’s a chance that Frederik Andersen stays with the Toronto Maple Leafs. This is a bit surprising given that a lot of people around the situation felt that Andersen was probably for sure headed towards free agency, which could still happen. Claude Lemieux, Andersen’s agent, told me that he spoke with Leafs management on Monday and the question they got from the Leafs is: Is Andersen interested in potentially signing with Toronto and staying put? The answer from Lemieux to the Maple Leafs was ‘yes’. It’s one thing to have a mutual desire to get a deal done and it’s another for it to fit with the Maples Leafs’ cap situation. Sharing the net with Jack Campbell is something that Andersen would be ready to do.

That’s sound more like Leafs doing Andersen a favor by saying they want him back and shows the rest of the league that at least there is a team interested in Andersen

Bunting is a bottom 6 guy if we get him but I like the idea.

Seems like a clear upgrade on guys like Mikheyev and Engvall.

He's not really the same kind of guy as Mikheyev and Engvall, so not sure how he can "upgrade" them. Bunting is closer to what Galchenyuk was with us than anyone else. My guess is that Bunting ends up in a top 6 complimentary role if he has any kind of role here, just like Galchenyuk.

He isnt as skilled as Gally. He is more of a grinder and if he does make it in the top 6 it will be in a Hyman type role but I dont think he can be effective enough to bring what Hyman does. Bunting was on a nice goal scoring run but its a small sample and it was mostly front of the net grinder goals. His hands, passing, IQ and shot are all lower than Galch.
