Bruh you know there's a salary cap right lmaoo

Tampa has to blow up the roster to an extent, how about Killorn? Similar to Hyman but only 2 years left on the contract.

Foegele and Canes wanting to see if they can get him a change of scenery too.

Yeah I mentioned Foegle above. He could a solid candidate for the 4th line. Sean Kuraly in free agency is a good option too.

Killorn was almost traded to Nashville last off-season apparently until they found out Kucherov needed the LTIR. Assuming Tampa doesn't cheat again...Killorn will most likely be moved.

Leafs needs a Big body top 6 presence, especially if Hyman leaves. Killorn, JT Miller, Evander Kane would be solid targets

Killorn and Foegele would be the best options. Foegele is actually a beast on the cycle, I think he wants a bigger role than 4th line though...maybe 3rd line?

Don't think Killorn's trade cost would be very prohibitive. Maybe something like Dermott and/or Engvall?

JT Miller would be outstanding but trade cost could be prohibitive.

Kane another locker room problem and AAV makes it very difficult to fit him in.

Offseason thoughts. Would like to hear your thoughts.

Mentioned this earlier - But moving Dermott to Detroit for their second and Givani Smith seems like a smart move.

I'd also explore moving Engvall to Edmonton, Edmonton will be looking to add depth. He could be an interesting option for them with his speed. Realistically, we could only expect a 5th + a longshot.
-------
Trades -

#1 - Dermott to Detroit for their second (36th overall) + Givani Smith.

Why we do it? it allows us to start to restock our cupboard by adding another pick. This second allows us to trade down with our own second ie; our second for a late second and a 3rd (similar to the ottawa deal last draft).. Additionally, Givani Smith is a kid who plays a gritty hard nosed game and could be our 13th forward.

Why it makes sense for Detroit? Detroit is lacking defence, and Dermott could be given a shot in their top 4. They have 3 seconds moving moving their own second not much of an issue. Additionally, moving a guy like smith gives more opportunity for young guys like Dennis Rasmussen, Joe Veleno, Taro Hirose and Lucas Raymond.

#2 - Engvall to Edmonton for their 2021 6th round pick and Markus Niemelainen

Why we do it? It gives us more cap space up front and again adds more to the cupboard. Niemelainen is a rare prospect, a Huge good skating dman. Realistically he's a longshot.

Why Edmonton does it? Adds depth to their bottom 6.

-----

Look at Peter Mrazek for 1B, look at signing one of Coleman/Schwartz, signing Bunting, signing Bozak for 3c, and maybe Matt Calvert.

Coleman - Matthews - Marner
Robertson - Tavares - Nylander
Bunting - Bozak - Mikheyev
Calvert- Spezza - Simmonds
Adam Brooks/Givani Smith/Joey Anderson

Rielly - Brodie
Muzzin - Holl
Sandin - Bogosian
Liljegren

Campbell
Mrazek

Valiant effort there and a couple of thoughts:

- Robertson has a long way to go before he can be penciled in as a top 6 forward on this team.
- I think the team lacks an identity where they don't have the sandpaper and grit that's required to withstand playoff hockey
- I have question marks regarding our PK there - I don't think the additions move the needle on our special teams
- I like the Mrazek signing but I think he'd want term. I'd much rather get a player like Mike Smith who is a capable 1B and can really help kill the cycle game by his puck handling
- I like the Calvert signing. He's a solid bottom six player but he's reactionary tough. I want some proactive toughness.

I'd counter with:

Hyman - Matthews - Marner
Foligno - Tavares - Nylander
Goodrow - Janmark - Mikheyev
Glendening - Spezza - Simmonds
Engvall/Brooks

Rielly - Brodie
Muzzin - Holl
Sandin - Bogosian
Hakanpaa

Campbell / Smith

Love Kuraly and also a Foegele fan

I like these suggestions as well however I am not sure this team would be cap compliant. Also, I don't like the idea of putting Janmark as Center. He hasn't really played much there throughout his career. Which could be a disaster.

That being said, I like the Goodrow signing, and I don't mind resigning foligno.

Pretty realistic moves with limited turnover. The people that are expecting the entire forward group to be gutted will be disappointed. At the same time, I don't think there's enough of an identity shift and the physicality still needs to take another step forward.

My hope for the off-season is:

Hyman - Matthews - Marner
Robertson* - Tavares - Nylander
Goodrow - Foligno - Anderson
Bunting - Spezza - Simmonds

[Semyonov - Brooks - Galchenyuk/Mikheyev*]

Rielly - Brodie
Muzzin - Hakanpaa
Sandin - Bogosian

[Dermott/Hutton - Liljegren]

Campbell
Rittich

[Woll/VV]

__________

* Robertson & Galchenyuk/Mikheyev (choose) rotate for 2nd line LW. If it sputters, you can upgrade that spot at the TDL or alternatively trade for a natural 3C and swap Foligno in there (e.g. Compher with retention).

The third line becomes a true physical, shutdown line with identity and underrated scoring touch. Anderson's strong side wrister is better than anything in the current bottom six.

Big fan of Dermott so hoping he returns. Idea being that Sandin gets minutes in the regular season for his development and then enters a rotation with Dermott/Hutton (or a cheap DFD veteran #7 of your choice) for a heavier playoff setup depending on opponent.

Hakanpaa seems like a downgrade at face value but Holl without Muzzin is an adventure and I don't think he's territorial enough for a deep run (compare to other #4's like Mayfield, Chiarot, Cernak, McNabb, etc.). Holl plays more like a Michael Stone, while Hakanpaa is stylistically similar to Polak. Muzzin's physicality is wavering, so you're left with Bogosian who aggressively defends the crease. It also allows you to experiment with Liljegren beside Muzzin if Hakanpaa can't keep his head above water on the 2nd pair.

The back-up goalie can be any 2A in the range of 2-3m.

Out:
- Andersen (5m)
- Kerfoot (3.5m)
- Simmonds pay cut (1.5m->900k)
- Holl (2m)

In:
- Foligno (3m)
- Goodrow (2m)
- Hakanpaa (1.5m)
- Rittich (2m)
- Hyman raise (2.75m->4m)
- Bunting (1.2m)

(Depending on Bogosian's ask, Engvall could give cap relief for a raise of 1.2m-1.5m)

Anything more drastic would probably require a Rielly trade, which is a totally different route.

I'd consider it a blockbuster if Dubey can pull off signing Oleksiak this off season.

I taper it - step in the right direction. I see "blockbuster" as either first line or top pairing. Doubt Oleksiak can play those minutes, but maybe he could step in in place of Holl.

So according to Pierre Lebrun, Frederik Andersen is interested in signing back in Toronto, and his agent, Claude Lemieux, expressed that to the Leafs on Monday.

This is mostly a nothing report. Of course Freddy would probably be open to staying. However unless he takes a massive pay cut, it won’t happen.

That's $20M in and $10M out assuming Garland and Kuemper are no more than Zach and Freddy.

Ive had by issues with Andersen but if he'd agree to a 1 year deal at 2.5-3 mil, it would at least be worth considering

Any interest in Michael Bunting?

Seems like there is some upside and young enough to build him into a decent bottom 6

Out-
Anderson 5 million
Kerfoot 3.5 million
Rielly 5 million
Mikheyev 1.6 million
Engvall 1.25 million
Dermott 900k
Hyman 2.25 million

Total 18 million

In

Garland 3.5 million
Kuemper 4.5 million
Foligno 2 million
Czikas 3.5 million
Kuraly 1.5 million
Saad 3.5 million
Goodrow 2.5 million
Oleksiak 2.5 million

Total 23 million

We currently have 10 million in cap space so if anything, with these moves, we'd have a full roster and with roughly 2 million in space

It truly looks like they are going to try to come back with this same team. Give it another shot with fans in the stands this time.
